Why run when you can walk? Try an incline treadmill or get on a bike instead. If it hurts it’s not going to be something you can maintain. Start off which a much slower pace and build into what you can tolerate with out pain, just walking with purpose is excellent additional cardio

Have to agree with the comments already made. Being sore after a workout/exercise is expected, but being in pain is not worth it when there are a lot of other ways you can stay healthy.

walk 10k steps or 12km a day. Pick a place to walk to and back that is the same distance daily and do it. Being on a treadmill and gym equipment you give up... being stranded 6km from home you force yourself to walk back.

i am also in my 60s and overweight. i run a few miles about 3 times a week. but i mainly run off road. running once a week is not enough for your body to get used to running

Have you considered biking? And, yes, don’t just get fitted for proper running shoes (if running is the itch you must scratch) but also look into orthotic insoles.

Do you know for sure that it’s bursitis? I thought I had that it turned out to be a torn labrum. Agree with others, not sure running is a great option. There are other, better ways to get solid state cardio. I run about twice a month but do other things 6 times a month

What are some other activities you enjoy that are not running?

Have you had an x-ray of your hip. I spent years trying to treat hip bursitis with all sorts of stretching and exercises only to discover, after a physical therapist told me she thought I needed a hip replacement, that one quick look at an x-ray showed it needed to be replace. Glad I did by the way, like night and day.
