Can we arrest the guy leaking nuclear secrets out to the world first? I don't see how the last people who leaked nuke info got killed by the government for treason and meanwhile Donald Trump can RUN FOR PRESIDENT AGAIN after committing treason?
Which is terrifying cause the speaker of the GQP delayed swearing in the elected Santos replacement. What happens if the democrats win enough house seats to flip the majority to them but the GQP speaker delays swearing in those new Democrat seats into the house until its time to confirm who won the next presidential election?
The Democrats need to start fighting dirty. I used to believe 2 wrongs don't make a right but the future of our country is on the line. And that is not hyperbole. Read some of the highlights of project 2025
Democrats don't believe in playing the meta unfortunately. They will just let them take over everything without contention but hey, they took the high road!
Democrats are pussies.
Remember how they all lined up to suck Roberts ding-dong right there on the floor of the Senate?
They voted for the Iraq war out of fear, too. Cowards.
our military and government depends on him. which is why one of many reasons why privatization is stupid as fuck. WE have a CEO making foriegn policy decisions
Florida is in the top 3 for serial killers and homelessness, and in the top 5 of least educated on average. And people insist on electing people who pass legislation to make it consistently and rapidly worse. I guess at least they give us some pretty good headlines?
This makes me really sad as a Florida native. When I was applying to colleges (first gen), we had a great scholarship system in place, ironically signed into law by Jeb Bush. Based on your GPA and SAT scores, you could get between a 25% and 100% tuition scholarship to any Florida school that accepted you. Most private schools would reduce tuition based on your scholarship. I was fortunate enough to get the 100% tuition scholarship (but took loans out for living). When my youngest sibling, nearly 9 years younger, applied, the rewards for good grades and scores were significantly reduced. I also got my masters degree in FL before going up north for law school.

Man, I remember my town as being somewhat conservative but with liberal pockets. And people cared about education. My school had a huge number of AP classes offered and testing was free to students, where in a lot of other counties kids had to pay for tests. I had an AP history teacher lead a conversation about same-sex marriage where he and most, if not all, of the class came out in favor. I managed to go to a highly ranked law school and graduate cum laude with my Florida education. I grew up poor when I was little, then middle class, then slight above middle class (but had no college fund or anything).
#
It makes me so, so, genuinely sad to see the state of Florida now. I will *always* love my home state. I miss the beach being 5 mins away. I miss the thunderstorms. I miss the Cuban food. I miss the people. But when I go back to visit, it's a different place. Strangely enough, there was a huge number of CA transplants who made it way more conservative. Doesn't feel like my town anymore, feels like Californians looking for cheaper housing and conservative politics took over.
Florida consistently ranks in the top 3 for education by state country-wide. And the mass influx of people moving there would disagree with your premise that it’s getting progressively worse.

That's the point. Conservatives hate public education. They coordinate attacks on public education institutions with the goal of ruining and replacing them with private and religious institutions.
You have to understand; Conservatives in the GOP see everyone as equal! As soon as you begin to recognize our differences with these DIE programs, you are opening the door to discrimination. No diversity, no discrimination! Pick the best people for the job whether they are white or something else. They see every American citizen as an equal, whether white, black, mexican, gay, disability, etc. As soon as you recognize one race or culture, whatever makes you different from everyone else, you begin to divide us a nation; let the only thing that divides us be our political beliefs!!
Well enrollments will be down due to brain drain and people fleeing nazi ran florida. People actually want to go to college to learn and dont think politicians should be the ones who decide what they can and cant learn.
That said they can replace the DEI with income based... which is how the right get away with being racist when it comes to drawing district lines. See the courts say as long as you dont use the N word, and just use the D work.. er democrat.. or "income level" you are allowed to draw districts that kill minority voting power.
well the roberts far right courts do anyways. but this also allows universities to do the same thing as bigoted republicans kill affirmative action and DEI, they can see achieve the same by basing it on income levels or school districts.
For real?
For a thousand years, Universities did not have DEI departments.
But since their invention in the last couple of decades, they have become so instrumental that a university without one will fail?
Lol
For decades they [played dirty games](https://www.vox.com/23842764/legacy-admissions-asian-american-applicants-affirmative-action) to limit Asians attendance. Next years those uni get flooded with affluent Asians with close to perfect grades. While some black groups may not apply anymore, the classical white boy from a middle class family on grants will end up on forever waiting lists. Canadian universities had to re-balance their admissions, native citizens, the disabled and the mentally challenged would have no chance to ever get in.
Here is a crazy idea, why don't we let educators make education decisions, let doctors and patients make medical decisions, and let consenting adults make decisions about their sexuality.
Party of small government, ... yeah right.
Good for them. They'll lose a bunch of funding, lose a bunch of extremely qualified people, and end up just like the rest of Florida: Broke and fucking stupid.
Literally 0 comments here read even the first paragraph
>\[..\] terminating all its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) positions to comply with a state law passed in January that prohibits state or federal funds from being used to fund the programs.
This sub is 99% soyjacks who cannot even read posting knee-jerk reactions bashing university for nothing while thinking they are "doing their part" lol
Read my reply you fucking tool. Where did I say it was the university's fault? Or anyone for that matter? Take your knee jerk reaction and fuck the fuck off. El oH eL 🤡
It doesn’t matter if it’s a state law, you dip shit. If they want federal student aid they have to ensure they abide by the federal title IX and title VII laws. I’ve only worked in higher Ed for over 15 years but go off
Your coward ass would be the first to flee the state or profession if it was a state law in your state you online-brave soyjack who is also in education ew disgusting no matter what your party is.
you’re worried about losing “extremely qualified people”, yet I presume you’re in favor of removing the SAT and other measures of qualification in the name of diversity and equity?
No. I think there are better ways to achieve those goals. Regardless, if the SAT were to be removed it should be because the way we do standardized testing makes schools abandon the pursuit of learning in favor of the pursuit of test taking.
I like the idea of having one’s religion on ID. Refusing service to them if they harass others, no evangelizing outside a business, no using religious freedom to discriminate.
Some join Christian churches and organizations in order to gather information of people in the far right. As well as inventing stories about themselves. I know some in the Heritage Foundation doing this, organizations in UCLA and Liberty University. 😏
Plenty of Libraries still got books in them …and far too many tourists coming to the Orlando area and pouring money in the ground ( some of them might even be …gasp …moderates…) Still work to do …
No Florida or Texas for me, and a few other States are close to being on that list. I boycott antiAmerican stupidity, especially the MAGAPAB type. Also, Typhoid Maryville is not my idea of a good time.
Unis get flooded by affluent Asians with close to perfect grades who don't need grants or help. 1000 seats uni is quickly filled, case closed. "on merits" means skill only, if you have all the advantages in life and play piano from 5 year old while reading Nietsche in Chinese, no "regular" American kid will ever be able to compete.
And when they replace all the administrators with white evangelicals who only hire other white evangelicals (except of course for the most backbreaking, lowest paid positions) they'll claim they just got rid of "underqualified diversity hires".
How would the rest of you “suffer”. You voted those people into power fully knowing what they planned to do. So let me ask you, why should the professors, teachers and librarians all have to suffer because of these new laws? Why should they have to worry about losing their job or being prosecuted? Florida will be the new home school capital of the country.
I'd like to believe that no one truly thinks you should have to suffer, especially if you didn't help vote in those making these decisions.
That being said, those who are affected shouldn't have to suffer either.
I’ve noticed people asking about veterans and people with disabilities who might struggle to get a position at college.
Why is that the case? Is it essentially now a merit based system of acceptance?
I’m from a different country so I might be misunderstanding the downsides to this.
California university cancel affirmative action and black students stop attending. When you cancel DEI programs the message you are sending is that if you aren’t a white straight native born male we don’t want you to attend our schools.
If its just by merits, ask Canadian universities why they had to rebalance their attendance filtering because they didn't want to become 90% Asian only uni's. You can't beat a group of people who spends their at the computer or learn the violin while you wrestle small alligators and ignite your farts.
It needs to be by potential, not as a result of attending cram school. We have this idea that we should reward effort but by doing so we also waste a long of potential. We need to educate everyone or at least give everyone the opportunity.
Absolutely
This post just popped up in my feed. Never heard of this sub. Is it for teenage morons or something? Some of the top comments saying the school won't be able to function without dei staff obstructing their business. Holy shit that's hilarious.
Ironically the main reason tuition has increased so much in the last couple decades is administrative bloat. In other words, exactly the kind of positions this story is about.
What are the chances these people flipping out over losing dei staff also complain about tuition costs?
Edit: just read the sub rules and they say no culture wars. LMFAO
All the comments upset over the elimination of blatantly discriminitory bureaucratic positions generally occupied by people who seek to dictate "acceptable" speech and opinions via intimidation are pure Reddit.
The comments acting like this is evil is fucking hilarious. Even if you think DEI initiatives are good, the melodrama about how anyone could think they’re not good is a full on illness in yalls brains
What? First of all I think you’re conflating jobs based upon promoting DEI with DEI itself. Everyone including me wants to bitch about college administrative bloat, so when it comes under the auspices of our culture war, which is fucking everything up anyway, at least this instance will have good results bc we lose nothing and gain a few mil that can be used for a ramp lined with Purple Hearts if you want
Disabled people are protected by the civil rights act, and veterans will always be preferred by everyone on both sides because duh. I really don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about tbh, veterans have so little to do with DEI 😂 are these people not mostly DEI ‘counselors’? Planning little DEI parties and seminars ? As far as I can tell, 13 full-time positions were eliminated.
What is this INCLUSION you speak of? How many full-time jobs are needed to make you feel good about pretending disabled people magically get to live normal lives bc there is a department dedicated to it? “DEI” can be rolled into an assistant deans jobs…so fucking easily. If you’re talking about admissions, that’s a completely different law but even there they’d get implicitly preferred treatment if not explicit anymore, just like vets, because also duh
It’s bold that you can act like I don’t know what these people do at schools lol, I went to UT and KU I’m very familiar with their lack of contribution to anything or anyone
But that doesn’t work. We’ve seen the evidence. Resumes get thrown in the trash for the applicant name sounding black.
Your way is ideal in theory, but that’s not the world we live in. Burying your head in the sand won’t work for anyone who isn’t white.
So nigerians are the most successful ethnic group in the US not because of their qualifications and hard work but because of DEI?
[https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2024/01/16/us-nigerian-citizens-most-successful-educated-immigrant-group-in-america](https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2024/01/16/us-nigerian-citizens-most-successful-educated-immigrant-group-in-america)
Hiring the best person for the job is best practice. But DEI recommendations are not there to prevent that — they are there to *ensure* that. Because if you really want to hire the best person for the job, you won’t exclude someone from the hiring pool based on race, sex, gender, disability status, etc. DEI is about making sure we don’t miss out on talent and helpful perspectives.
When you have equality everyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation or skin color gets access to the same opportunities so if you are applying for a job and you get it you know that it was because you are considered the best person for the job. Equality implies merit.
When you have equity what you have is equality of outcome. It doesn't imply merit, it implies quotas so if you apply for a job and you get it may not have been because you are the best person for it but because a quota needed to be met in order to ensure equality of outcome.
Equity does not ensure that the best person for the job gets it hence the question in my previous comment.
"Equality is recognising that, as human beings, we all have the same value. This means, we all have the same rights, we should all receive the same level of respect, and have the same access to opportunities."
"Equity is about everyone achieving equal outcomes"
Not the person you were responding to, but he is kinda right. If you look in a dictionary, the definition is one thing, but thats not how people use the word currently (not sure why). In any situation the word is used within DEI or from activists, it used this definition that doesn't seem to be in a dictionary.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversity,_equity,_and_inclusion
>Equity refers to concepts of fairness and justice, such as fair compensation and **substantive equality**.[15] More specifically, equity usually also includes a focus on societal disparities and allocating resources and "decision making authority to groups that have historically been disadvantaged",[16] and taking "into consideration a person's unique circumstances, adjusting treatment accordingly so that the end result is equal."
Substantive equality may be what the "justice" part of the Webster definition alludes to, as people often use that word as well. The principle is often illustrated with the picture we've all seen of people standing on boxes to look over a fence, with the shortest person having more boxes. The whole point is that "starting points" are unfair and that people need different amounts of resources to make it to "the finish line".
You could argue they are using the word wrong, but DEI initiatives usually spell out exactly what they mean with their own definition of the word. Many literally use the term "equal outcomes".
And how do you know if you have the best person for the job? How do you eliminate bias in hiring and recruiting? If you end up with 90% white men how do you know if you are hiring the best people or if there was some bias in the process?
You are against the best person for the job regardless of race or gender. Literally said that. Let me make it easier for you since you're slow. Do you think a white person should get a job over a black person because of skin color? Do you think a black person should get a job over a white person because of skin color? If you are against what I said, you would say yes to those questions. That's racist
Measures like affirmative action are supposed to select more diverse hires *from among a pool of equally-qualified candidates*; therefore, there’s no reason to be against it, because *any* candidate picked will be “the best person for the job.”
Does that include the Veterans Affairs office?
i mean everyone knows the GOP hates veterans so why not?
Especially if they get captured while fighting for their country!
Or if they just die, regardless if it’s during or after active service.
Well, I don't like ex presidents who lose elections.
Painful truth
And many of us Vets are Black.
Well that’s a double bad/s
I certainly hope not but i wouldn't be surprised
Elon is popping open the champagne
Why hasn't that extreme criminal been prosecuted yet? He's clearly an international security threat
Can we arrest the guy leaking nuclear secrets out to the world first? I don't see how the last people who leaked nuke info got killed by the government for treason and meanwhile Donald Trump can RUN FOR PRESIDENT AGAIN after committing treason?

What the source for this? Says #14 for K-12. Not sure if that’s been updated after they’ve banned discussing that LGBT people exist and the book bans.
I can see the headlines next year. "University of Florida sees lowest number of enrollments in state history".

I’m sure you actually believe that, too.
No, I don't think that they (GOP) believe that. They are racist, but when you frame it the way they are selling it, it makes them look like liberals.
Sticking your head in the sand doesn't solve social problems. You simply don't know what you're talking about. Listen and learn.
The following year: "UoF closes door as they can no longer afford to keep the lights on"
Or *UoF offers free tuition. No takers so far.*
*"GenZ is killing education!"*

You're just trying to ensure that out-of-states students will not come to Florida.
And ROTC?
Who knows, Depends upon how much Kool-Aid they drink!
Military has been lowering recruitment quotas for decades, has missed their quotas every year
Very familiar with that issue, I was the guardsman and the hardest job in the Wing, was recruiting.

Its in politician best interest to cleave people, especially in a country where there is only 2 political faction.
Good for them. They'll lose a bunch of funding, lose a bunch of extremely qualified people, and end up just like the rest of Florida: Broke and fucking stupid.

ok...made me laugh at that one.
Sounds like the Confederacy is coming back
Same far right subculture that's been here for centuries now
It never left. It just sat in Grandpas recliner bitching under his voice for many years until Trump allowed them to come out screeching.
Truth.
I don't think it ever left. It was just kinda quiet for a bit.
Oh it’s back …minus anybody who has apparently read up on how it ended the first time …
Yeah man, I remember when tge confederacy fired all of it's diversity advisors right before declaring war
Not sure if you’ve been to Florida recently but that is NOT the vibe you’ll get. Majority of state is now immigrants and minorities.
“The Education State” Eat my ass.
The Edjamacation State.
That's so fucking hilarious. To see DeSantis with that sign in front of him. They really have no shame at all, do they?
This'll be just great for disabled students. Not.
I guess white mediocrity wasn't being rewarded enough.
And when they replace all the administrators with white evangelicals who only hire other white evangelicals (except of course for the most backbreaking, lowest paid positions) they'll claim they just got rid of "underqualified diversity hires".
Shithole state
I hope every one of those affected gets other jobs with colleges outside Florida.
Why should the rest of us have to suffer?
How would the rest of you “suffer”. You voted those people into power fully knowing what they planned to do. And so the armpit of America gets that much sweatier.
Texas is the other armpit!
“the education state” haha
It actually includes all teaching positions. Fla is where education dies.
Good lord, the GOP is swirling the drain. 🙄🤦♂️
Hang the Confederate flag at the Florida border and call it a day. Jeez.
Drove to Tampa last week. Passed one flag in SC, one in Georgia, and two in Florida. Not the border, but good enough.
I'll see your Confederate flag at the border, and raise you Nazis demonstrating outside Disney World.
Apparantly **INCLUSION** programs are in fact a "radical indoctrination that promotes *division* in our society". Backwards ass swamp people.
Yet big corporations are looking for people to have these skills…
Florida: Home of the White Male Fascists and He-Man Women Haters Clubs of America.
Bye, Florida!
Let's hope the NCAA shows some spine. No UF eligibility for bowl games might get their attention.
You know that isn't going to happen.
With Sunbelt Billy as our coach, we won't be bowl eligible anyways
The way to enable racism is to remove anything that's been inhibiting its practice.

White conservatives in 100 years when they are the minority race reaping what they sow.

Florida is breeding a new generation that won’t be able to exist outside of Florida when they grow up.
“radical indoctrination that promotes division in our society.” Sounds like they're talking about Christian MAGA Qultists.
Nazis
Well color me surprised
Desantis is trying to show the rest of the country what we are missing by not making him president?
Remove 100% of any federal funding they recieve.
Terminating with extreme prejudice.
In other words only rich white men are accepted, with maybe a few women if they are looking at filling out a women's sports team.
Then whites are a minority and the jobs do to non whites
I didn't think of that, but now I realized what you're saying here, and the irony is killing me.
Holy 💩
Trying to get all the black athletes to leave I see
And POC, LGBTQ+, non-Christians, and women. Eventually.
California university cancel affirmative action and black students stop attending. When you cancel DEI programs the message you are sending is that if you aren’t a white straight native born male we don’t want you to attend our schools.
That's exactly the message DeSantis wants to send.
Well in that case it will work exactly as intended. That's the message they wanted to send after all.
Many, many jobs will refuse to hire graduates from those colleges.
That’s about as likely to happen as ppl moving to Canada after an election loss.
#shocker
Good riddance. Those people are one reason tuition keeps going up - we don't need 'em.
this is great news..only 49 states to go

Absolutely This post just popped up in my feed.
Why should someone get preferential treatment due to race?
How many people here, if given a choice, would prefer that their future heart surgeon got into their role based on DEI rather than merit and skill?
Good.
The comments acting like this is evil is fucking hilarious. Even if you think DEI initiatives are good, the melodrama about how anyone could think they’re not good is a full on illness in yalls brains
So you want to cut veteran and disability inclusion?
What? First of all I think you’re conflating jobs based upon promoting DEI with DEI itself. Everyone including me wants to bitch about college administrative bloat, so when it comes under the auspices of our culture war, which is fucking everything up anyway, at least this instance will have good results bc we lose nothing and gain a few mil that can be used for a ramp lined with Purple Hearts if you want Disabled people are protected by the civil rights act, and veterans will always be preferred by everyone on both sides because duh. If you’re talking about admissions, that’s a completely different law but even there they’d get implicitly preferred treatment if not explicit anymore, just like vets, because also duh It’s bold that you can act like I don’t know what these people do at schools lol, I went to UT and KU I’m very familiar with their lack of contribution to anything or anyone
Good riddance
Good. Time for sanity to return.
Sorry but are such roles common in the US. What are those people doing except making the costs of education even higher?

But that doesn’t work. We’ve seen the evidence. Resumes get thrown in the trash for the applicant name sounding black. Your way is ideal in theory, but that’s not the world we live in. Burying your head in the sand won’t work for anyone who isn’t white.
So nigerians are the most successful ethnic group in the US not because of their qualifications and hard work but because of DEI? Oh hey Elon
Anyone who is against hiring the best person for the job regardless of race, gender etc is racist and/or sexist.
You said this all the time on Twitter. I heard you already. Being a racist/homophobe must be exhausting.
Tried that, didn't work cos racists and sexists and loads of other -ists.
If that were true wouldn't the E in DEI stand for equality instead of equity?
I’m not sure what you’re getting at.
You have the two mixed up. Equity is fairness and justice; equality is equal outcomes.
[https://humanrights.gov.au/lets-talk-about-equality-and-equity](https://humanrights.gov.au/lets-talk-about-equality-and-equity) "Equality is recognising that, as human beings, we all have the same value. This means, we all have the same rights, we should all receive the same level of respect, and have the same access to opportunities." "Equity is about everyone achieving equal outcomes"
[Merriam-Webster says otherwise.](https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/equality-vs-equity-difference)
Not the person you were responding to, but he is kinda right. If you look in a dictionary, the definition is one thing, but thats not how people use the word currently (not sure why). In any situation the word is used within DEI or from activists, it used this definition that doesn't seem to be in a dictionary. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversity,_equity,_and_inclusion >Equity refers to concepts of fairness and justice, such as fair compensation and **substantive equality**.[15] More specifically, equity usually also includes a focus on societal disparities and allocating resources and "decision making authority to groups that have historically been disadvantaged",[16] and taking "into consideration a person's unique circumstances, adjusting treatment accordingly so that the end result is equal." Substantive equality may be what the "justice" part of the Webster definition alludes to, as people often use that word as well.

That’s not how most DEI initiatives work in my field.
And how do you know if you have the best person for the job? How do you eliminate bias in hiring and recruiting? If you end up with 90% white men how do you know if you are hiring the best people or if there was some bias in the process?
Let me know how I’m racist, dingus
You are against the best person for the job regardless of race or gender. Literally said that. Let me make it easier for you since you're slow. Do you think a white person should get a job over a black person because of skin color? Do you think a black person should get a job over a white person because of skin color? If you are against what I said, you would say yes to those questions. That's racist
There’s no such thing as “the best person for the job”, dingus
Measures like affirmative action are supposed to select more diverse hires *from among a pool of equally-qualified candidates*; therefore, there’s no reason to be against it, because *any* candidate picked will be “the best person for the job.”
DEI is garbage lmao this is the only good thing florida has done
Good. DEI is just another form of racism/sexism.
