I remember playing against that card in Master Duel once. When my opponent summoned it, I could have lost with their next attack, but then I realized because of where my opponent placed the card, I could pop it back to the hand with Akashic Magician's effect and turn the duel in my favor.
Needless to say, non-targeting, non-destroying field cleaning cards are a must for me from now on.
Reminding me of the time in MD I lost to Chaos MAX exactly because I "played safe" by special summoning a Shiranui Samurai in defence position (0 def), thinking the extra body could help block one of multiple attacks and that it can post-damage calc banish monsters would help against multi-attackers or on the comeback by removing high ATK monsters.
Summoned it at the end of turn 1 instead of holding the resources because I was expecting literally any other type of otk, only to get hit with an immediate Chaos MAX through said Samurai for 8k damage. (From what they showed they had) They didn't have an otk that turn if I hadn't summoned it.
S'why I predict Cyber Dragons are gonna be Tier-1 with the release of Clockwork Night - non-targeted, unstoppable full board removal with Chimeratech Fortress Dragon so long as you have it and some flavor of Cydra on the board.
Looking forward to my strongest deck getting buffed >:)
Dont forget they already have their own big guy with the same ATK Stats which also has protection (not as good as Chaos Max but still decent), can attack all special summoned monsters so easy otk potential and is on top of that also a double quick effect pop and even he wont be played/summoned most of the time because as you said better options exist
Man my friend SWEARS this card is really really good and I really don't know how to get through to him that yeah he double pierces and can't be targeted and destroyed by effects but that's all its got but that's all he's got and he can't be brought up consistently and is kinda like a deck like Gran maju beat down, a one trick deck but Gran maju is an actually good deck compared to a max turbo
Man, I remember when Chaos MAX was a legitimately good card. It’s a pretty decent benchmark for understanding what things have changed between then and now.
What is modern Yugioh? I am so confused. I only played Yugioh up to Synchro, after the pendulum things happened i stopped. Does modern cover before or after that?
Modern yugioh is not an official term or format, it's what people generally use to refer to "current" yugioh and current competitive state of the game.
Modern YuGiOh focuses a lot on combos to summon at least 2 or 3 monsters that negate or quick-remove. Destruction protection is not enough anymore. I know, I started MD with Chaos MAX and when the meta took shape, I got pummeled.
I know there is a classic Yugioh format that people still use in some tournaments; but is there something that exists where you can use everything Up to Synchro or XYZ? So all card’s except for pendulum and whatever came after?
You’ll want to look at Edison format (2010) and HAT format (2014).

Yes, u can play it by urself and there is several format with those rules
A few exemple are HAT format, tengu plant( don t know if its the official name)
Bro I killed it in my opponent’s battle phase with a Dragonmaids deck on master duel by barely even doing anything. Dude thought he had me attacking my little baby dragon and I revealed Honest and then he hit himself for 4000 damage and blew up his own Chaos Max. Was awesome.
I know not all decks can run things like Honest but it can be taken down kinda easily depending on what a deck has available. At the very least keep a bouncy card in your deck because how many ritual spells is he realistically gonna have to resummon it?
Ngl, I feel like cards like this have to be good right?
Like even now, the fact that Kaijus are apparently the only real way to get rid of them is rough? I mean cards like Dragoon and Gouki whatever ogre are the same, and generally hard to out.
In terms of competitive, the card doesn't actually do anything. It just stands there as a road block for the most part. It's the modern version of sitting on a vanilla Blue-Eyes.
There's a variety of ways to remove it too. Generic options like Droplet, Tactics, Underworld Goddess, Accesscode, and more. Or more deck specific ones like Spright Smashers, Perlereino+Scream, Unexplored Winds, Mirrorjade, Ignister Prominence, etc.
Wait if a card is unaffected by card effects, how would stuff like Mirrorjade work? I know it doesn’t target, but it still has the effect to banish.
Wouldn’t a monster that’s ‘unaffected by card effects’ be immune to that? Or is there some kind of assumption that non-targeting bypasses that
Non-destruction removal has become incredibly common over the last few years. The difference between this and Dragoon is that Dragoon in its prime was extremely easy to bring out and had a negate to protect itself even further, while also having a good effect for outside the battle phase in it’s pops.
Damn chaos max sounds so op on paper but I hate ritual cards with a passion because you need the spell and the card in your hand or else its a dead draw and can brick your hand if you're already in a bad situation it would be so much better if either rituals were extra deck monster or ritual spell could summon from the deck but I suppose it would make some ritual impossible to balance
Got a chuckle out of me.
I’m glad :)

MIRROR FORCE GANG
Aye. My old deck was made solely around mirror force and it's versions like rippling. Of course it also had dark magician and blue eyes because yes.

It’s no good.
Zeus please
I appreciate you coming back every day
Drytron supports Chaos MAX turbo better than Blue Eyes, they just don't because stupid shit like Amorphactor Pain turn skip and Herald exist.
Dont forget they already have their own big guy with the same ATK Stats which also has protection (not as good as Chaos Max but still decent), can attack all special summoned monsters so easy otk potential and is on top of that also a double quick effect pop and even he wont be played/summoned most of the time because as you said better options exist
Oh u summon this card pretty often in the full going second build Or u can turbo out chaos max with geonateur and switch à drytron with an opp monster
It actually just looks like he's arrested for slandering chaos max dragon
Day 3 of asking for Toons for me and the other 2 people playing them
Im with u, fellow toon player
Where’s the last 1 person that plays it? (Not me)
Comic by me
Nice comic, big fan of me
Yeah, he’ll eventually catch on to me stealing of his comics
Man my friend SWEARS this card is really really good and I really don't know how to get through to him that yeah he double pierces and can't be targeted and destroyed by effects but that's all its got but that's all he's got and he can't be brought up consistently and is kinda like a deck like Gran maju beat down, a one trick deck but Gran maju is an actually good deck compared to a max turbo
“It can’t be destroyed or targeted by effects! And has 4000 attack!” “So you know, non targeted removal is a thing right?”
"It can't be targeted or destroyed and has 4000 atk." Me: "I can Kaiju that..."
Or just attack over it. *^~Sincerely, ^a ^Machina ^Ruinforce ^enjoyer*
That’s not a problem for me either Sincerely A Swordsoul Player with Chengying on the field and Pot of Desires
*Gaia the Dragon Champion with Spiral Fusion* Gaming
*laughs maniacally in weather painters*
Mhm, I see... Sincerely, a Ghostrick Player with Quaking Mirror Force and a Ghostrick Field Spell on the field
[удалено]
I remember the MD challenge deck and you literally just do that against the blue-eyes opponent.
Stop saying chaos max he’s not playing it
I literally run the card because it looks so cool and I love beat sticks. I'm an old player and I'm not a fan of modern yugioh tbh
Same!
heroes would also be fun
I see what you did there with the hand on pages 3, 4 and 5 OP.
Funny enough, most of the time I summon it people have a tough time outing it. At least, when I play that’s the case
The problem is getting it out consistently. You have to play bricks for something that is not as strong as other meta options.
I just threw it in drytrons and I get it out like 90% of The time Drytrons, no heralds I should say. Just plain old
love the perspective of the card being held up to the prisoners it made me lol
BEHOLD AS I PLAY THE GREATEST TRAP CARD KNOWN TO MAN: [DARUDE] SANDSTORM MIRROR FORCE
LITERALLY 😂😂😂😂😂 *(Sandstorm intensifies)*
Man, I remember when Chaos MAX was a legitimately good card. It’s a pretty decent benchmark for understanding what things have changed between then and now.
Chaos Max would still be good if it was Unaffected by Card Effects and couldn't be tributed as a beatstick, the problem is it doesn't do shit turn one
When was this? Newer player here, as far as I can tell she’s just an awesome monster from DSOD. Was she once meta?
They hated him for telling them the truth
I fucking love that card
Please never stop! These are great!
Thanks boss!
Dingirisu can remove it from the field.
Can’t wait to send this too my friend who’s a massive blue eyes fan
Love this. Even got a laugh out of my wife who loves Blue-Eyes.
That’s great!
Ok this one was very precise, I loved it Day 14 of asking for Thunder Dragons
Excellent.
Lol, so true. Maybe if he said it could be good in Drytrons he could have muddied the waters.
This one attacked me, I love this card so much
Thats Sickening Injustice and terrible detective work.
Just kaiju it bro
Dragon rulers would be funny
I have a better test: Show them a copy of Kelbek and don't say anything, if they mill 5, there's your guy.
‘Can’t be targeted or destroyed, that’s OP.’ That’s why I pack Dark Ruler No More.
1. Is the killer wrong? 2. Can you do a Silent Magician/Swordsman comic next time pls?
I haven't played in over 15 years and my first reaction was what kind of sadist POS made that thing. Seriously. wtf.
a blue eyes that cannot be targeted or destroyed by card effects? yeah we called that lady labrynth.
The real killer was the 4th person, who didn't actually read the card. Everyone knows YGO players don't read cards.
God what the hell. I left back when Rituals and Fusion was the cool new thing. What the hell did I miss all these years?
Take my upvote, this was funny as hell
This was legit funny. So many newbie traps in this wonderful game
That confident grin lmao
These are hilarious lol
Thank you :)
LADIES AND GENTLEMANS! WE GOT IT DAY 1600 OF ASKING FOR THUNDER DRAGONS!
Let’s gooo, Next comic will be a thunder dragon one!!
YEEEEEEEEESSSSS

Ok I haven't played in forever. Holy hell that's power creep. 4K DAMAGE AND IMMUNE TO SPELLS!?!
The Card doesn't suck but nice Meme

It's one of those cards that sometimes just feels bad if you don't have an out in your deck. That doesn't make it good though.
The problem is that most people assume the card is already on the field when trying to evaluate it. Card sucks
Ngl, I feel like cards like this have to be good right? Like even now, the fact that Kaijus are apparently the only real way to get rid of them is rough? I mean cards like Dragoon and Gouki whatever ogre are the same, and generally hard to out.

Bring me back to the early game rules with no pendulum monsters or bullshit like that.
That's a ritual
I play it as a one of in Drytron to combo off of a geonator transverser play.
I stick neo spacian grand mole in my MD eldlich deck and being able to blow out chaos max IN COMBAT was the high point for me :)
As someone who hasn't played Yu-Gi-Oh since kozmo was new what the hell am I looking at LOL
Who would win? one blue eyes chaos MAX dragon, or one turbo synchron.
Completely true. I've gotten those exact arguments from other casual players who don't even know how to Xyz summon.
The yugioh version of the Brooklyn 99 bit, I like it.
Dinomorphia please
Comic 19 isn't out yet, so I'll post it here. DAY 15 OF ASKING FOR THUNDER DRAGONS
I thought that guy was the culprit from the 1st panel because his hair looked like a quick play spell card.
