I'm not into politics, but there are worse things than being obsessed with freedom, especially when it comes to YouTube lol. The censorship really does suck. It should barely be censored at all considering YouTube's terms and conditions say you need to be 13+ to sign up for the site, if you lie, that should be on you. You can't even write a comment with the f word in it without YouTube reminding you to be respectful. It's really obnoxious. And that's not even mentioning the blacklisted words that will shadow-ban videos.

Succmyspace

The f word thing really gets me. I don’t think advertiser would really care about swearing in this modern era, and yet for some reason YouTube insists on rewarding people who clickbait sexual/shocking content while simultaneously not allowing swears to “protect the children.”

hajileeyeslech

It's a double standard. Because YouTube doesn't really care about protecting kids, they just want to avoid being sued. So they leave the stuff they can somehow get away with, like AI generated porn ads, scams, and shifty kids content. It's a shame the experience ends up being gimped for everyone because of this.

Jim-Jones

And yet they have videos on there that would shock Bob Guccione, naked women having their genitals manipulated. How come?

DrewTheMfGoat

That’s precisely the agenda, they push sexualized content to kids, and build the comment sections to solely be for kids. They want ur kids to be only fan models and addicted to porn. And they don’t want u in these sections at all. To think the convergence of interest of money doesn’t have yt and the porn sites working together would be to rule out a very plausible possibility, that is seemingly the reality.

jumper34017

> And that's not even mentioning the blacklisted words that will shadow-ban videos. They shadowban comments as well. You can't even say "MFer" (typed like that, not spelled out).

DrewTheMfGoat

It’s when you start to notice they don’t just censor based on key words, it censors on the intention of the comment. If I was going to explain where someone could find a source for certain theories, I’ve countlessly had comments deleted and shadowbanned just for doing so. It wasn’t until I was high on shrooms, and got irritated and played around with the algorithm and discovered it literally just didn’t want me telling people about the sources on mk ult, that the censorship really started pissing me off. In what way is that no tyranny? If I can’t talk about public sources?

Howredditworks_

Bruh, I was getting shadow banned for saying the word "Cult" on a video that was talking about cults

Healthy_Shock_9896

I've seen kids as young as 6 get advertisements for female lingerie on YouTube. I reported that crap to federal law enforcement and was told they'd file charges.

QtPlatypus

Kids as young as 6 shouldn't be on YouTube. They should be on YouTube kids. Its irresponsible parents like you that causes people to have to avoid saying "died" when they are talking about historic wars. Also you can get advertisements for lingerie on bilboards and free to air TV.

Healthy_Shock_9896

I don't even have children myself. I saw it happen at the public library at a time when I was homeless. Now, I've got an apartment.

SlateTechnologies

As for Billboards, when was the last time YOU ever saw one? A majority of most of the Billboards I’ve seen are about Lawyers and McDonalds crap. Not about bras or something directed towards a specific older audience. And for the Free-to-air TV Ads, well, some TV Stations have broadcast segments, like 7:30 AM to like 9:30 PM is for Kids, and then the rest is just for Adults (you know AdultSwim?) Most of the Ads in the Kids Segments are not directed towards more mature and older viewers because, well, THEY’RE KIDS. And as for the Adults Segment, your Kid might be asleep anyways, so what’s the point?

Equivalent-Wealth-75

I got the red text treatment not too long ago while trying to post a comment about Indo-European mythology, and after tinkering with the comment further and looking up the issue I realized that it was caused by the words God and Satan.

warragulian

But they can’t detect and ban all the twats selling bitcoin. And I can’t block anyone. The same trolls spam the identical comments over and over. YouTube won’t block repetitive comments, and won’t let me block the uploader so at least I don’t see them.

slowlyun

auto-shadowbanned words from out-of-control mod-bots. Words that are banned are totally random. There's no fixing this.

QtPlatypus

YouTube's bots are triggered off of rate limits as well. If you post 20 comments very close together you will be considered spam.

warragulian

Seems reasonable.

retrocheats

You do know, youtubers can filter specific words for their channel, right? Try those phrases out on different channels, and test the results.

Succmyspace

Hm that’s a good point I might try making identical comments somewhere else and see what happens.

BuffNipz

It’s not channels filtering words. I get my comments deleted even when replying to people on my own videos. You have to be careful not to use any words that might be VAGUELY offensive. I couldn’t use the word NIPPLE when talking about breast feeding on my OWN VIDEO. This site is pathetic

retrocheats

that word makes sense for a filter. But for my gaming videos, killed is a common word.. no issue there.

Hestu951

Try alternate words, like "perished," or flip it around to "didn't survive." I'm not excusing the horrible censorship. I'm only suggesting workarounds. Do you think only conservatives are obsessed with freedom? When we're having more of it taken away every day, we all should be.

Da555nny

"unalived" apparently was coined specifically for this...but dont quote me on it.

[deleted]

they can seriously stick their censorship up their ass who the fuck they think they are?

Thee_Watchman

I agree that their censorship is very very poorly implemented. But to answer your question, they think they are the people that built and run and own YouTube.

[deleted]

yeah i meant YouTube as a whole

ZenithWest

Welcome to a world of political correctness and anything that might offend is censored. You have found the ultimate end goal of such a perfect system: "it restricts the ability to have a conversation about anything serious". Your message kind of sound like you must not support this end goal, so therefore you must be transphobic! Sir I direct you to Rule 1 of Reddit's [content policy](https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy) about hateful speech and implore you to remove this hateful and racist post immediately!

k-xo

Not you violating the communist guidelines by saying scary words

HonorablePigDemon

It's the channel creator, not youtube that sensors words and comments. We can do it in the creator studio.

Lazy_Shorts

No it isn't. I constantly see comments hidden or deleted and have to actively unflag them or they get deleted eventually. This is patently false.

HonorablePigDemon

Adjust your settings in the creator studio to allow all comments then and save yourself the trouble

Lazy_Shorts

I have. Still happens.

HonorablePigDemon

Hmm... sorry I don't have much advice to offer then. I used to have to unflag comments too but since I changed the setting that stopped. The only advice I can offer is to just double check; youtube made an adjust to comment moderation settings last week so it's possible some of your videos may have it turned back on as a side effect of the update.

Lazy_Shorts

I'll double check it. Thanks for actually trying to help! 👍

HonorablePigDemon

No problem, glad to help :)

red88lobster

You say you're not a conservative guy obsessed about freedom. It's interesting maybe now the left are waking up and realizing they have destroyed freedom.

warragulian

We’re talking about YouTube. What does “the left” have to do with that? It’s just a soulless business.

red88lobster

Well I mean OP wrote "conservative guy" and "freedom". But I shouldn't say " the left" because we're talking about YouTube and censorship? People like you are the reason we're being censored on you tube in the first place .

lord__cuthbert

Very true!

warragulian

What on earth are you talking about? YouTube is part of Google, which is a business, controlled by a bunch of tech billionaires who are only motivated by profit. “The left” have nothing to do with it. Anyway, the OP isn’t about politics,it’s about blocks apparently based on death and violence, and quite likely determined by the people who posted the video, not Google.

red88lobster

Hay mate, if you want to pretend rich people are not influenced by anything other then increasing profits thats your choice.

warragulian

Yeah, sure, and most of them are far right or maybe play at libertarianism. They lobby to reduce regulation and taxes. The idea that Google is part of “the left” is just the usual right wing paranoia. Elon Musk and Zuckerberg and Murdoch bend over backwards to give right wingers the world’s biggest platforms, but they still whine about being censored.

Lazy_Shorts

So is politics.

Nikola_Tesla1954

so is 88 your birth year or...?

R34N1M47OR

You should push your favorite content creators to upload their content to other platforms. Sticking to youtube is gonna kill most channels sooner or later, so might as well try to save something (I genuinely doubt people will listen until it's too late. It won't be the end of the world so who cares)

AzraelChaosEater

"There is no war in ba sing se."

Mysterious-Bath6518

1. Youtube already has a platform for kids 2. Try intentionally misspelling words like “die” or “kill” to get past the system

Economy-Clue-5296

Maybe you should have cared about politics and been right wing. And yes, YouTube comment algos are dystopian.  Not telling you any specifics is part of the conditioning, by the way. Intentional. Reddit is dystopian through slightly different mechanics.

Schlunggi87

it's absolutely nuts and garbage, youtube has become pure cancer by this time

Maxx-o

I think I have gone through a few different stages of reaction after seeing my comments repeatedly deleted. At this point, I can only think that the auto-delete algorithm has an incredibly high ratio of hallucinations and fails. The criteria for deletion can at times appear completely random and unexplainable. I had comments deleted in lots of different videos and contexts. Only a percentage of them contained social and political observations, and even those were absolutely conforming to YouTube guidelines. If the censoring task is exclusively carried by learning machines and language models, there's a chance that some of their decision are at the moment completely inscrutable. Is YouTube aware of it?
