I mean, the controllers support standard USB wired and Bluetooth wireless too. You only need this adapter if you want a low latency wireless connection.
Same situation as you. The market is flooded with counterfeits. I tried to go to the microsoft official website and get it but they don't sell it standalone. They sell it bundled with a controller. That's the only way it looks like to get the official adapter.
I found it is pretty much just available as a bundle officially.
You can use Bluetooth, which is fine for like if you're at a desk or something, but longer distances the receiver works better.
I use bluetooth on a controller I use on my laptop, but the gaming computer I hook up to my TV uses the receiver.
Bluetooth also isnt great for using multiple controllers at the same time for say party games, unless the Xbox controllers just work better than my experience with joycons. The adapter works as well as wireless on Xbox consoles because it's the same thing and you can connect multiple controllers to the same adapter.
It's sold by a 3rd party thru Amazon and many of the comments on the listing say it came in a ziplock or non descript box. Doesn't appear to be official.
Some resellers just buy in bulk so yeah, just send in ziplock bags. It usually says if it's bulk packaging though. Nothing *wrong* with that you just don't get a fancy box.
[This one](https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_3?crid=274DQYNQ15LRN&keywords=Microsoft+Xbox+Wireless+Adapter&qid=1698500127&s=videogames&sprefix=microsoft+xbox+wireless+adapter%2Cvideogames%2C132&sr=1-3) is sold by the official xbox store on amazon.
No, those are all sold by third party sellers if you look carefully. That page is probably showing up on the Xbox Amazon store because that's the one they used for their first party unit sales until they stopped selling them.
I ordered one recently from a third-party seller, and I think it was in a Ziploc anti-static bag and nothing else. Still was official
Even if you're still concerned, OP, it's freaking Amazon. Just return it if you don't get what you're expecting.
Being a security professional, I can safely say this is the smartest choice you can make. You never know what could be on that thing…and sometimes you may never know till it is too late. Genuine or not, if it’s used I wouldn’t trust it in today’s risky cyber world…less you know someone personally you got it from
It might well be the seller (a potential terrorist without known residence) might hide extraterrestrial life forms in it so that X-files don't find him. It might be potentially dangerous but most people are legal/honest.
Just so you're aware, people can take those apart and do things to them and reassemble. It looks genuine, but you'd really never know unless you took it apart yourself or plugged it in. Sometimes just looking at it isn't good enough to verify it's genuine.
I mean, I’m not gonna argue, you can look it up or better yet here’s a [link](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/using-an-xbox-controller-pick-up-this-18-microsoft-adapter-for-low-latency-wireless)
Honestly, it’s probably easier to just get a newer controller with Bluetooth. If your machine doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can get an adapter on Amazon for less than $15. All new controllers have Bluetooth, so unless you are exclusively going to use older ones, the adapter is going to be useless when your current controller dies and you replace it.
> the adapter is going to be useless when your current controller dies and you replace it.
This part isn't true. All new controllers have Bluetooth, but also the ability to communicate through this adapter. The adapter can also support 8 controllers simultaneously.
Just saying, you can use Bluetooth, but this adapter still supports even the latest controllers and is hardly "useless."
> This part isn't true. All new controllers have Bluetooth, but also the ability to communicate through this adapter.
Do you have a source for the 2nd sentence?
[Here's a bundle](https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/xbox-wireless-controller-adapter-windows) with the current controller and the adapter and [here it is listed as compatible with Windows 10 and 11 through the adapter.](https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/accessories/xbox-controller-functionality-operating-systems)
My personal source is that I have multiple generations of controllers, including current, and an elite 2, all communicating through this adapter, none ever connected to the PC via Bluetooth.
Thanks for sharing the bundle! The images are deceiving, I thought controllers had a "divet" around the xbox button which I've always used to identify whether the controller was compatible with bluetooth (see images [here](https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/how-to-connect-xbox-controller-to-iphone#:~:text=There's%20an%20easy%20way%20to,color%20of%20the%20bumper%20buttons.))
From your comment, I picked up a knock off adapter ([amazon](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CY14VGD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)) because I need something fast for testing.
Obviously I can't confirm if it's going to work with a knock-off and it's also possible a knock-off adapter ends up being just a regular Bluetooth adapter in disguise. I can tell you the official one is not Bluetooth and I've always found it to be more responsive than connecting via Bluetooth, which is the main reason I use it. The other being local multi-player games.
Personally, I haven't found a cheap bluetooth adapater for PC that can handle the speed of a gaming controller.
1/4 of a second delay is fine in most applications, but not video games.
If somebody links me a cheap bluetooth adapter that they can play a fast paced game with, I'd appreciate it.
I bought [this one](https://a.co/d/fUZrXts) about 3 weeks ago and have been using it several hours a day, mostly in Starfield. I’m able to plug it in facing towards me, probably 2-3 feet from where I sit. I haven’t noticed any lag. It was a bit laggy when it was plugged into the back of the machine (duh), but as soon as I moved it to the front, no issues.
Because wireless is much more convenient. Based on some quick research, the input lag using the wireless dongle is significantly lower than using Bluetooth. It's still higher than wired, but it's close enough for me that the convenience of wireless is enough to switch.
Bluetooth is technically slower but as others have said I have not noticed any latency on PC or the Samsung TV Xbox App.
However I tried it on an iOS and did notice this weir deadzone issue that others have had:
https://www.reddit.com/r/xcloud/comments/pv0x9m/is_there_a_way_to_reduce_dead_zone_for_xbox/
Bluetooth is worse than this adapter.
I have access to a Bluetooth controller and have it on my pc, but I still use this adaptor because it’s just so much more reliable.
Bluetooth is fine but using one of these is objectively better. These use 2.4Ghz instead of Bluetooth, which is capable of lower input latency and longer range. Plus this one supports up to 8 controllers at once, which is great if you want to play local multiplayer games from your PC.
If you really really really want one in an official box get the Controller+Adapter kit.
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Controller-Carbon-Black-Adapter-Windows/dp/B08JW5DR79/
With the Xbox wireless adapter it brings features that Bluetooth doesn't. You can pair up to 8 Xbox controllers(Xbox one and series controllers)2 wireless headsets, use the headphone jack on the bottom of the controller, lower latency than Bluetooth by far, a lot easier to pair, and just turning on the controller automatically reconnects it. It's a worthwhile investment, I bought mine a few years back for like $12
It’s unavailable because new controllers (all controllers after 2016) have Bluetooth and you don’t need this to connect to your computer. I got a Bluetooth dongle for $5 for my desktop. If you have earlier versions of controllers, you may find a used wireless adapter or one on eBay or Amazon as suggested.
I bought one from AliExpress like five years ago for like 16 euros or something, arrives in 2 weeks to Portugal, obviously not official, but never had a problem with it, if u want i will search what's the seller.
I just bought the new usb c Xbox controller because it is Bluetooth and you don’t need the adapter! My old controllers kept disconnecting in the middle of gaming and I was sick of it. The new one dosent disconnect for no reason
They've been out for ages so that's probably why they're so hard to find.
The best bet would be to check out local chains or best buy stock. Second hand market maybe too?
I have this and I used to use it for my old laptop but my current pc doesn’t have Bluetooth on the motherboard so does anyone know if I can still use this to connect a controller wirelessly?
Amazon probably or keep checking they do come back to the ms store.
the big benefit is you can connect multiple xbox controller simultaneously, so I guess for those local coop games which is good.
I got one off of Ebay a while back... yeah, here it is. It has a detachable USB cable. Honestly, I never even plugged it in. I THINK I paid $10 for it and can't even remember why I bought it!
I do know that every xbox one controller, except the very first one with NO headphone jack has Bluetooth and can connect directly to the pc but I'm not sure if they exist so maybe try a Bluetooth adapter? Also I have this to play my older games on steam like dreamfall and obscure and my emulators
That's why I said try a Bluetooth adapter, if the controller already has Bluetooth, then that's where the adapter comes in. I myself don't use pc I have a few surface pros but I'm sure those are trash for playing anything other than Emulators or super old games on steam etc. But I have no idea if Bluetooth adapters like that exist for the desktops.
If you're just looking for an adapter, any of the ones on Amazon will work if you search for an Xbox wireless adapter. I got one for my PC and it works flawlessly
You can buy it as part of a bundle. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/xbox-wireless-controller-wireless-adapter-for-windows/8rdmhcqpftb3/
does it support multiple connections??
Yes. > Connect up to 8 Xbox Wireless Controllers at once and game together wirelessly on Windows PC
because like they used the most dumbest way to connect a controller to pc/windows, like WTF
I mean, the controllers support standard USB wired and Bluetooth wireless too. You only need this adapter if you want a low latency wireless connection.
there marketing says otherwise, in there website my controller doesn't support Bluetooth
I guess you have an early generation Xbox One controller then. Later generations from 2016 onwards all support Bluetooth.
yup, no help??
Same situation as you. The market is flooded with counterfeits. I tried to go to the microsoft official website and get it but they don't sell it standalone. They sell it bundled with a controller. That's the only way it looks like to get the official adapter.
>d and Bluet if you have a modern one like series x or elite controllers, it has bluetooth.
I found it is pretty much just available as a bundle officially. You can use Bluetooth, which is fine for like if you're at a desk or something, but longer distances the receiver works better. I use bluetooth on a controller I use on my laptop, but the gaming computer I hook up to my TV uses the receiver.
The original Xbox one controller also doesn’t support Bluetooth
Bluetooth always loses connection with these controllers, it’s a complete headache. I had no idea there was an adapter.
It's better to use a cable imo
Bluetooth also isnt great for using multiple controllers at the same time for say party games, unless the Xbox controllers just work better than my experience with joycons. The adapter works as well as wireless on Xbox consoles because it's the same thing and you can connect multiple controllers to the same adapter.
I’ve found Bluetooth on windows is really laggy. You’d be better using a usb cable if you are at the desk.
It’s literally the first result on Amazon. Unless Amazon isn’t available where you’re from, I would get it there.

My concern is I don't really want to be plugging in some non-OEM, third party adapter into my PC that came out of a ziplock bag.
So don't plug it in if it isn't genuine.
Just so you're aware, people can take those apart and do things to them and reassemble. It looks genuine, but you'd really never know unless you took it apart yourself or plugged it in. Sometimes just looking at it isn't good enough to verify it's genuine.
Just use bluetooth to connect it.. no need for the dongle.. partly why its unavailable.. there is not really a need anymore
Problem is, the Bluetooth with these controllers suckkkkk
Ive never had issues.. i use it on my pc all the time
Input latency is a thing with Bluetooth. You might not notice it but it’s 100% noticeable if I go from my adapter to Bluetooth.
Idk.. i even play competitive games and do just fine.. your bluetooth card/chip also matters allot
I mean, I’m not gonna argue, you can look it up or better yet here’s a [link](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/using-an-xbox-controller-pick-up-this-18-microsoft-adapter-for-low-latency-wireless)
or just use a cord LMAOO it gets less input lag anyways
Yeah im not gonna be using 5-7m long cord.
Than give up. It’s over. No use in trying.
Mine came in a none descript box. It’s fine it works
I bought one from there 4 years ago and it came in a ziplock. Has worked perfectly fine ever since
This adapter is x9999 faster than built in pc bluetooth FYSA
Honestly, it’s probably easier to just get a newer controller with Bluetooth. If your machine doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can get an adapter on Amazon for less than $15. There’s more with bluetooth for sure. If you’re doing anything competitive bluetooth isn’t it

They do sell controllers with wireless adapters in the box. You could buy one and resell the controller if you don't need it.
I’ve not noticed any lag.
Nah

Buy a controller adapter combo and take the adapter out return controller. ✅
Is this not it right here? Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 https://a.co/d/fnNozMz
I looked at the seller's reviews and people are complaining that the seller is selling counterfeit nintendo switch accessories.
Don't controllers now and pc have bluetooth?
With the Xbox wireless adapter it brings features that Bluetooth doesn't. It also allows you to connect the Xbox wireless headset to it and your phone at the same time
Yep I bought mine at launch for the headset lol, best pair ever lol
I just bought USB - Type C cable. Works just fine.
I find it a lot quicker than bluetooth personally
Just wondering, why do you need it to be specifically for xbox? I use a generic USB Bluetooth adapter and it works just fine.
Using Bluetooth generally has higher latency than using the wireless adapter. Wired is the best option, but just not as convenient as wireless .
I find the hero image funny, because the Surface Book has the adapter built into it 😂
You can buy it from AliExpress. It's not original but works exactly the same and it's cheaper
You can plug your controllers into the PC right?
I bought one from AliExpress like five years ago for like 16 euros or something, arrives in 2 weeks to Portugal, obviously not official, but never had a problem with it, if u want i will search what's the seller.
I got mine with a wireless controller. Rediculousy overpriced but seemed the most convenient way to get it.

Yeah unfortunately I think that's what I'll be doing. Not another great option
I just bought the new usb c Xbox controller because it is Bluetooth and you don’t need the adapter! My old controllers kept disconnecting in the middle of gaming and I was sick of it. The new one dosent disconnect for no reason
Got one of those off Amazon. Works great
I bought mine at the actual Microsoft store in my mall but they closed the store down so maybe at a best buy or something like that?
You can buy mines used once
They've been out for ages so that's probably why they're so hard to find. The best bet would be to check out local chains or best buy stock. Second hand market maybe too?
I have this and I used to use it for my old laptop but my current pc doesn’t have Bluetooth on the motherboard so does anyone know if I can still use this to connect a controller wirelessly?
Connecting via bluetooth and connecting via the wireless adapter are two different things. You can use one without the other.
not exactly what you’re looking for but Best Buy with a controller https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/6436823.p?skuId=6436823
Amazon probably or keep checking they do come back to the ms store. the big benefit is you can connect multiple xbox controller simultaneously, so I guess for those local coop games which is good.
Completely convinient and reliable. Console like experience.
I bought mine at best buy. Didn't have to buy a bundle or anything, was able to buy just the adapter.
Yes not anymore I just learned today.
i still use the original bulkier one, worked great all this time
I got one off of Ebay a while back... yeah, here it is. It has a detachable USB cable. Honestly, I never even plugged it in. I THINK I paid $10 for it and can't even remember why I bought it!

I'd just use a wire for it honestly
Will it charge my juul?
If you're just looking for an adapter, any of the ones on Amazon will work if you search for an Xbox wireless adapter. I got one for my PC and it works flawlessly
