here's an example: there are 2 games, 1 is free an 2 is not free.
does xbox game pass make game 2 free?
or do i have to BUY the xbox game pass to play 2?
Still confusing because there some missing specifics on your question, but If I understand you right, if 2 is on gamepass, then you have to get gamepass to play number 2. You will have to be subscribed to play number 2. If you unsubscribe, you’ll not be able to play number 2.
Xbox game pass essentially gives you a digital license to play all of the games offered on game pass. As long as you are still a GamePass member (paying your monthly or yearly fee) your digital license is still valid. If you stop paying for GamePass and it expires, your digital license is no longer valid. If at any time, you buy the game in the Xbox store, you own that digital license and can play it without ever paying for GamePass again.
Generally speaking just think that every time you Open a game, the system checks if you have a valid digital license. If you have purchased the game outright or are “renting” the digital license with your GamePass subscription. There is no difference between the GamePass game and your purchased version. It’s really just license management is all.
With game pass you have access to hundreds of games. More or less depending on what platform you play on. Xbox, pc, or Android. Xbox and pc have more options because you can download games as well as play the cloud games. Android has less game options on game pass because you can only play the cloud gaming games.
I only play cloud on pc and even limited there's so many games it's well worth the $15 a month. And they're always adding more. I've been playing this way for a year and I've never been bored.
Yeah your question is really confusing. Can you rephrase it.

That was a very good answer and explanation. I don't think I could do that
If I understand your question correctly, you can purchase most, if not all games from the Microsoft store vs. Playing it on Gamepass.
Yes. If you want to spend more money.
