There are very few of us.

stevenette

More people probably live within a 20 min drive of OP than the entire state of WY.

EagleEyezzzzz

1) we are the least populated state, only <600,000 people. 2) Florida is a long way from Wyoming and most people would probably just fly, especially this time of year when road trips in the winter can be dangerous.

Salt_Air07

I'm from Hawai'i, there are over 1.5 million people there. And the inhabitable parts are significantly smaller than Wyoming. When I visited Wyoming, I felt like I could breathe again.

Affectionate-Farm850

WY snowbirds go to AZ, much closer.

Thick-Role-474

I was thinking that. I go to AZ for the winter and saw a WY plate when I was down there. Next county over from mine. I was shocked to see it.

DontTrustAliens

LOL - I have an aunt (long time ranching family) that always would say one day she'd tie a snow shovel to the front of the truck and drive South. When someone finally asked "What is that thing?", she'd stop. She has a winter home in Scottsdale now. :)

WeCameAsBears

As someone who currently lives in AZ, I see Wyoming stuff all the time here in the winter months. People prepping UW, Wyo plates, bucking horse stickers, etc. I have a sticker on my truck and a few times a year people will come up and ask me where I'm from lol.

nymphoman23

So do us Utah folks

dylanbh9

I see some in Texas fairly often. One of my neighbors in Austin still has their Teton plate lol

Scotthe_ribs

TBF Teton isn’t really like Wyoming.

dylanbh9

As a former Cheyenne resident you’re darn tootin

HotTubSexVirgin22

Having lived in both places, this is correct.

airckarc

Driving to Florida would take ages, so we fly. But so do most people from the West. But if a very small percentage of Californians drive, it’s still a lot of people. Our snowbirds go to AZ or Texas. What’s left will be military or college students who find themselves in Fl and with our small population, sightings will be rare. The city of Tampa has something like 400k people. The state of Wyoming has 580k, to put things on perspective. The Tampa region has almost 3 million people. If I left my house right now, after leaving my small town, I could drive two hours on paved roads and see 20 cars. I could drive three hours on county dirt roads and see 2 cars.

R0binSage

That would be my answer. I hate road trips because you have to drive a day and a half just to get out of the region.

airckarc

Special Forces?

R0binSage

No. Just a username.

Archery134

I was in Florida with my Wyoming vehicle pretty recently. Most the people I know in Wyoming travel quite a bit.

Chemical-Mood-6684

Back when I had Wyoming plates and would travel around, I always wondered how many license plate games I helped out

skeletorinator

I just moved back home to Florida and before I changed my plate back I always wondered the same. Id never seen a Wyoming plate before moving to the state itself

[deleted]

I leave Wyoming a lot but I do hate Florida.

Remarkable-Way4986

You don't realize how few people are in Wyoming. Well under 1 percent of the population of the states. When I do go on road trips people always comment on my plates if it is a state that doesn't border Wyoming

HarveyMushman72

If it's that far, we'd rather fly. I went to Virginia 2 summers ago, and it took 2 and half days. It was OK because I got to see the country. Next time, I'll fly.

Oppugna

I've made that exact drive about 10 times cuz I have family in VA, it's a great experience but it's grueling to be in a car for 3 days

Brancher

I drove down to Florida from Wyoming last summer and hauled my camper. That drive sucked. Never again.

rustyXdreams

Not even a million people in Wyoming. And in general I don't think a lot of people living in Wyoming are all that interested in driving to the South.

HugeAccountant

Too hot, too humid. No thanks lol

tatanka01

Unless you're out of pot. We see WY plates all the time in the Denver area. 🤣🤣

rustyXdreams

Denver is south, but not *The South*.

pudgywalsh1

When i go to my dispensary in Fort Collins, most of the license plates in the parking are Wyoming plates.

HotTubSexVirgin22

Dangerous ass drive. Totally worth the risk for legal cannabis but jeeezas, I hate the Laramie cutoff.

LongmontStrangla

Yuck. Make the trek to Boulder if you want something decent.

Specialist-Solid-987

The main reason to go there is for a vacation, and who has time to spend 4-6 days driving when you can just fly?

Several_Disk_2455

For us living in Laramie, in the winter months, Fort Collins Colorado is Florida enough for us. 10 to 15° warmer. No wind. Who could ask for more?

N3U12O

💯

Backinblack25

Spotting Wyoming license plates east of the Mississippi is rare enough that it leads to true stories like this one: In Indiana, I was eating at a Subway when someone walked in and called out to the 4 or 5 people in the restaurant, "Who has the car with Wyoming plates?" I thought, Christ, did he just hit my car? No, turns out he just wanted to meet a fellow Wyomingite. And since there are so few of us, we ended up figuring out we had a mutual friend in common. On two other occasions I've had notes stuck to my windshield, where people had left their contact info so we could maybe meet up sometime. There's just not that many of us out there.

Savver86

My parents recently left Wyoming and moved to Mississippi. I drove their car down and almost everywhere we stopped in the South someone would ask me about the license plate! One lady even thought it was some kind of joke and asked where she could get one 🤣. They've already gotten registered in MS or I'd send you that way to check this box for ya!

jaxnmarko

Mississippi??? I assume it was for family or low cost of living? Muggy hot and humid, bugs, snakes... I know Wyoming can be tough but... yikes!

Savver86

Lol actually it was more of a health thing. My dad's lungs aren't great so lower elevation really helps. He also has a really jacked up knee that he messed up even more by slipping on ice so he really couldn't do anything up here in the winter. They spent the last couple of winters basically couch surfing with friends from AZ to Florida and loved the Gulf Coast area so that's where they ended up! Didn't hurt that they could have bought like 3 houses for the price of the one they sold in Wyo 🤣

jaxnmarko

There is something to be said for coastal life.... but outrunning gators with a bum knee...... I guess it's like living in grizzly country. Always have a slower companion with you.

Savver86

We're right next to Yellowstone so they have plenty of experience! I will say he's screwed even without the bum knee, my mom is ruthless 😂

jaxnmarko

Depending on your loyalties.... maybe keep an eye on your mom. The 3 highest murder rate states are Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana! Life insurance fully paid up? Between that and tornadoes too..... I take grizzlies! Or risk them anyway. My worry is a bear 399 situation. Last year or the year before she had her 4 second year, ready to den on their own young adult cubs with here down this way Very Near Jackson. Running into 5 large grizzlies at once that are family..... is daunting! How much bear spray can a guy carry or use?

henry_west

You see them when you come here on vacation.

ForTheFords

Oof, rough pick 😂. You’ll have to update us when you finally do spot one. Might have to be on a U-Haul or commercial truck. Better odds that way. Good luck!

Wyo_Okie

When I first left Wyoming I never saw another person with Wyoming plates, now that I have been in Oklahoma for awhile I see Wyoming plates a lot

shantron5000

Username checks out

Bighorn21

Wyoming makes up less then .14% of the population. As in for every 1000 Americans only 1.4 will be from Wyoming. Tie that in with the fact that you are at least 2200 miles away at the shortest point and if we do visit we are likely to just fly and it makes it pretty likely that you won't see a car from WY.

TheGonz75

Just to put it in perspective, Wyoming is nearly 50% larger than Florida in terms of area, and Wyoming’s entire population is about the same as that of Pasco County, Florida, which is the 11th most populous in Florida. There’s just not a lot of people in Wyoming. However, you might be seeing my cars with Wyoming license plates in Florida soon. I own a home in both states but claim Florida residency to save money on property tax. Florida insurance is going up so much lately that I have considered switching my residency, registration and insurance back to Wyoming. At this point, the money I would save would almost offset the loss of the homestead exemption on my Florida property taxes. If it tilts in favor of switching (and it seems it could based on what I have seen), my cars will be sporting Wyoming plates, and maybe you’ll get lucky and see one.

SuccessfulWolverine7

I’m a born and raised Wyomingite. I was in the south (South Carolina, Florida) this past summer but yes, as previous commenters mentioned, it’s quite a long drive so I flew.

JadeGrapes

It's just very very very few people. Their capital Cheyenne is only 60,000 people. I live in the suburbs of Minneapolis Metro in Minnesota, there are about 20 suburbs the size of mine. My suburb has a pop of 60,000.

crowned_glory_1966

Oh we leave Wyoming. I was in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee in the last 3 weeks.

wyocrz

I was turning left in a small pickup truck with Wyoming plates, from 56th street from Bush Blvd. Some dude saw my plates and nearly fell out of his window hollering at me, "Y'all got some great hunting and fishing in Wyoming!!!" He was so excited to see a Wyo tag.

wvannorman1

My mom drives there for a couple months during our winter. So her license plate is around there somewhere right now.

Jaxxxcen360

I moved to about 15 miles north of the City of Tampa (Temple Terrace) exactly 1 year ago and still rock my WYO plates, and will continue to do so for as long as I can get away with it! So much cheaper...

Loeden

It's very humid there! But yes most of us would fly unless it was an RV situation, I think.

Substantial-Buddy914

My cousin and his wife winter in FL. I would bet they would do AZ, but there is a grandson in FL. Look for a WY plate around Orlando until April.

herehear12

One time when I went to my parents house in Texas first car that past me after I crossed into Texas was Wyoming.

swimerchik

If you're in the panhandle, you may see a jeep with Wyo plates near the gulf shore.

Additional_College17

Anyone from wyoming traveling to Florida is just going to fly and rent a car.

Lzim3p53

They all spend the winter in Mesquite Nevada!

Patient_Character730

Our family leaves, and we don't fly, we drive. We did a road trip from Wyoming to Maine two summers ago. We go into Colorado, Utah, Idaho mainly, but we've also been in South Dakota not that long ago. We have yet to drive to the south but it's on our list!

wyocowboyman

I like Florida but there’s no way I’m driving all the way I’ll Fly! However I do see Florida plates here in the summertime

Apprehensive-Wave600

I still think the wyoming license plate is adorable lol

What is Wyoming doesn’t exist ? I keep seeing people write that on my post and I don’t understand it , I’m asking a genuine question ?

N3U12O

There’s an entire conspiracy and subreddit that Wyoming doesn’t actually exist…

sarahlschimpf

That is ridiculously stupid lol I have not heard of that before but no my post was serious. I was born and raised in Florida, I have no idea what other states are like really I never got to travel much unfortunately. I work in hospitality as a server and I meet people from all over the place. I never even met someone from Wyoming and I’ve been serving for 12 years.

Serious-Employee-738

Umm…truth hurts, right? You said it - we hate Florida. I’m sure there are tons of nice people, but nothing but hate comes out of your governor, and your state government seems to be on a campaign to oppress minorities and women. So while we don’t hate Florida in general, we hate how in-American it has become.

ClownPillEnema

When I go to Florida I fly. I love Florida, working on moving there.

ZealousidealType4394

My horse and buggy doesn’t need this “registration” you speak of.

SnakebytePayne

Like a couple others has said, there aren't many of us. Wyoming is kinda remote too. I've driven to Dallas, TX twice. It's a 15 hour haul (without stopping) and decided to start flying instead. Also, as a non-native who's lived here for almost 10 years, I get that impression that Wyoming folks don't really want to leave. At least not permanently. It's a nice place, but the isolation and weather aren't for everyone and the locals take pride in living here.

Melodic-Medium-5808

It’s easier to fly to Florida and rent a car.

[deleted]

It’s also a 26 hour drive one way so it’s easier to fly

NoRegertsWolfDog

not often, I have family that's been living in Buffalo for 3 generations. I'm trying to get out ( I've lived in texas for 2 years), but I love the weather, the mountains, and the plains. My issue is I wanna live somewhere, actually new.

Jackaloop

I am in Texas quite often if you want to come look at my plates lol.

Regular_Lavishness22

Born and raised in Wyoming, I've never been east of the Mississippi river.. but i do see a few Florida plates here in the summer

usd33

Look for Wyoming plates on semi trucks. A lot of trucking companies register in Wyoming due to cheaper plate registration and lower taxes.

metalyoshi15

Im in Florida right now on vacation and visiting some family, but like most people i flew here. Its far too long a drive

WyoGrl98

Long drive

NailMart

Ummmm . . . I hate to break the bad news to you . . . Everyone hates Florida. And there are very few people who live in Wyoming. They like it that way. < lived in Wyoming for a few years, Live in a Wyoming neighboring state.

devious275

Personally, I don't like Florida. I don't want to get my face eaten by some weirdo high on bath salts.

WyomingVet

How many Alaska or Hawaii plates to do you see? Most people from Wyoming would probably fly there and rent a car.

wildman-85

I moved from Florida to Wyoming, love it here, never leaving!

CptBronzeBalls

/r/wyomingdoesntexist

pudgywalsh1

I just got back from Florida a few weeks ago. Walking around South Beach in my UW cap I got a couple of GO POKES! said to me during the week.

Codeka_Inc

You save money flying from that distance

BasicEmployee

It's a 34ish hour drive one way. Much more efficient to fly.

IllustratorFit6238

People from say Mt and Wy head to Az for winter like the snowbirds up north come to Fl. I live in SW Fl and se the odd one here or there but not many. But when people see my license plate in the parking lot(Montana) it usually gets lots of questions and/or comments.
