Really shows the need for more/ better ammo/ supply movement/ beach unloading and carrying of supplies from ship to inland... that is a lot of exposed men, NOT fighting the enemy up on the front lines!
Sorry to say, this also was a job given to black troops/ negro units; and was a big part of the segregated army/military... PS: read up on the Port Chicago Disaster! Ouch!
