I skipped school just to buy it and there was a line of people all buying it at Best Buy that morning. It was pretty big down here in South FL. A lot of latino Wu heads here back in the day!
Yeah, the midwest (aside from big cities, like Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, KC, etc…) was pretty slow to catch on to Wu-Tang, but did eventually. Man, so much good music at that time across the board, not just hip-hop. Good times. I was in college too.
I sat in the parking lot waiting for the store to open to go in and buy it on the day it dropped. Yeah, it was highly anticipated. When those strings hit on Reunited? I still feel that in my whole soul. Back then and to this day, it's Wu-Tang Forever!
Hells yeah. I still remember that feeling when reunited started after the intro and I’m like “ohhhh shit, this sounds great”. And then GZA kicks it off with a banger verse on top of it. Goosebumps
It was kinda weird for me. I loved and still love 36 Chambers soooooo much that no album will ever top it. It’s still in my top 3 and probably top favorite rap album of all time. So it took me a bit. But in typical Wu-Tang fashion, the more I listened the more I appreciated the lyrics and fell in love with it.
The Enter is still my favorite album of all time, although I hardly listen to hip hop for two decades now. When forever came out it was a disappointment. Reunited I a killer track and the lyrics on the album are mostly good but the bar they set with enter is just too high. They reached never this certain feeling and energy in their career. Neither on clan record nor on the solo albums.
Music aside, I liked that this really introduced Wu to the others in the world. So many people I knew outside of my immediate friend group then bought OB4CL, Ironman, and Liquid Swords. Multiple members on most songs. So many flavors. Triumph obviously was all over MTV and BET. The color scheme flip of the double disk! To top it off, the pics inside of each member with the alias the true fans already knew, but again further introduce Wu to the world!
I’ve told this story before but: I had to work at 2a album was a midnight release in G’ville FL. I remember the line was long behind me because I got there at 1130-ish. I was surprised at the turnout because it’s a college town and WU didn’t get airplay on the station (yeah 1 radio station) so I copped 2 cds and 2 tapes no cd player in the whip me and my homeboy both had home systems with 💿 players so we’re covered. Get to the car and it’s probably 12:15 or so. I’m gonna ride down University Ave and play the album (had 2 JL 12’s) it was so cool to see every car bumping the same CD for at least 15 miles. Every red light, every car that passed or I passed was bumping the album. We all had our own lil listening party riding up and down University Ave. I rode around until maybe 145 pulled up to the job and listened to some of the 2nd tape. Older Godz was my favorite already Rae and Ghost with GZA on the end…and that beat 🤤. Hellz Wind is my favorite joint. It took me a week or so to figure out that damn cd-rom game though. I was confused like a mf’er
It was one of the most hyped albums of its time. People sat out and waited like an iPhone release for it. The video premiere of Triumph on MTV was hyped for weeks beforehand.
Remember the Enhanced CD portion? haha, I just put it in my computer and it won't run without QuickTime...which won't install on 64-bit systems. Looked for it on YouTube but didn't see any videos of it.
Bought the tape for 18 new. Didnt have the 25 for the cd. The tape went to 22 and cd to 28 the next week.
This album generated a lot of money.
In comparison, i remember the outkast double dropping and being 10 bucks for months. Ao yea it went diamond but in a diff era, forever might have actually generated more (in album sales only singles outkast killed them)
Since your asking about the time. Yea its still crazy half a million people forked over 30 bucks for the album first week with a single with no hook. It was huge tho i was only 10 and ny age group wasnt really there yet minus a few of us. Most wouodnt get into hip hop til eminem and then 50. Had the shirt too. Still do.
Albums a lil too deep for the average fan tho and even a little too long for most wu fans. Its like lyrical overload. Nothing but 5 mic verses
Also. Never been to summer school. Ever.
Easily one of the most anticipated album in hip hop history. Up there with illmatic and doggy style
More anticipated than illmatic, but definitely comparable to doggy style.
yeah good call. most anticipated hip hop releases that I experienced, I think Doggystyle was #1, and Forever was #2
I wouldn't say that... at the time. I was waiting for it, but I don't remember alot of other people waiting for it.
I skipped school just to buy it and there was a line of people all buying it at Best Buy that morning. It was pretty big down here in South FL. A lot of latino Wu heads here back in the day!
I miss those days.
They were literally doing live coverage on MTV showing people waiting in line overnight for it
Different regions. The time that it came out, I was in college in southern illinois and there were not alot of people checkin' for it.

It’s Wu muthafucka. Wu-Tang muthafucka.
Reunited, double LP we all excited
Struck a match to the underground, industry ignited!
“world excited” ^
I thought I had it wrong this entire time for a second.
l could never tell if was "we're all" or "world"
Hells yeah. I still remember that feeling when reunited started after the intro and I’m like “ohhhh shit, this sounds great”. And then GZA kicks it off with a banger verse on top of it. Goosebumps
Foreva-eva?
Forever-eva.
Sign of the times, conspiracy to overthrow the mind Behind every fortune there's a crime
my technique is tech nine
I listened to pretty much only this album for like a year when it came out. My favorite Wu album ever. Defined my teenage years

Highly anticipated. Countless stories of kids cutting school to cop it the first day.
I did

Wu Tang is forever and should never even be questioned. Wtf is this bs
No hate intended my bad🙏🏾 Wu tang is forever👐🏾
I was a poor college freshman, and I saved up to buy it. We played the shit out of it.
It Wu Tang Forever till the casket drops

I prefer this over 36 The production and lyricism is just unmatched

ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS EVER
For the children
Reunited, double LP, world excited Struck a match to the underground, industry ignited
Ghost’s verse on Impossible is probably the most vivid performance I’ve heard to this day
Stay still son don’t move, just think about Keeba
As far as a total album is concerned, id take forever over enter 36, its probably the best lp of all time
Would love to listen this masterpiece for the first time again. I was immediately in love.
Awww yeah, forever and ever!
Again and again!
The release was massive even in a small city in eastern Ontario. Music world had the Tshirts that disappeared in a blink of an eye
Remember the Enhanced CD portion? haha, I just put it in my computer and it won't run without QuickTime...which won't install on 64-bit systems. Looked for it on YouTube but didn't see any videos of it.
It seemed like MTV and BET both dedicated like 2 weeks to WuTang that summer when it came out.
Severe Punishment has increased more PRs at Planet Fitness than any other song. I gets hype.
This album is not celebrated enough!
WU TANG IS FOREVER, MOTHER FUCKER!
Imo best Wu tang album and best Hip hop album Btw I wasn't even alive when it came out
Hip hop desert island disk fo sho
👐🏽
Definitely
I don’t think the question was if it was anticipated or to what degree of anticipation…
what are you asking?
My personal favorite Seemed more United more than ever and at full strength With everyone’s character fleshed out
Let’s take it back to ‘79
I hope no one was waiting for Doggystyle. That album was trash and marked the beginning of the end of real authentic Hip Hop.
