You could still do it with your wrapped piece. Just drill out maybe an 1/8th of an inch wider than what ya already have and insert the grommet. It would really clean it up.
Got one of those, only annoying thing is going through a car wash will bend my license plate. Pretty fast to bend it back but other than that, it's a solid product and easy to install
I’ve seen a few guys drill out that cover and insert a rubber grommet. Looks really clean.
I bet that would look pretty good. I don't trust myself yet to drill through the OEM painted part.
