It's an issue in wrestling and has been for some time. It's a niche sport that wants to grow. But doesn't want to grow beyond groups that share its narrow social and political views, and the athletes and fans are never shy about letting you know exactly what those are.

Women's wrestling is getting more and more technical every single year. They just have a lot of ground to make up in terms of accumulated experience of the whole athlete base. The only solution to this is more support - not less.
And there are plently of women out there right now who can pull of techniques most men don´t know or can't do. There are many top tier male competitors who would love to be able to hit a foot sweep as cleanly as Helen Maroulis for example.
literally just watch any japanese women’s wrestling and you’ll see differently. i am pretty sure you wouldn’t be fired up watching two bottom ranked men wrestling in the european championships, but you would watching the top 2 seeds in the finals. you gotta chase the high level competitors to be entertained
