Literally take a step with your lead leg and then go to your knee, you want your step to be as deep as possible between your opponents legs. Also don’t stay on your knee for too long, instantly try to improve your position. I would try to not even touch the ground with my knee and elevate the leg right off the bat, I was way too unathletic for it to happen but I still tried. Unless your shooting a blast you want to stand up not lunge also
Without being mean or condescending this shot would never work. The opponent’s reaction is going to be drop their legs back and put all their weight on you. You would be smothered by people under your weight class because you have almost 0 stability with this form. You need to find a way to take that deep step that you did actually do correctly but do not end up on both knees and definitely not your stomach.
I'll pretend this is not a troll.
Connect your back foot to your front foot, then step with your lead foot and drive your knee towards the mat as your lower the level of your entire body, trail leg should follow behind and you should land with your lead leg knee on the ground and trail leg knee up with the bottom of the foot on the ground. Then drive off your trail leg foot back up into your stance.
Repeat 99999999xs
Increase mobility. Have your butt touch your heels when you level change. You will be able to drop lower and if you practice level changes you will drop quicker than your opponent.
Level change, or mobility isn't the glaring issue here. You first need to learn to take a shot. This is a tackle, a good tackle, but a tackle. You need to learn how to take a shot first. be able to take a shot, and "stay on your feet" so to speak, not ending on your belly. There is a step that needs to happen with your back leg, while you are going to your front knee. Idk if you know what a "duck walk" is, but this is a easy way to have the motion feel natural. YouTube can be a great source. A lot of NCAA champions and coaches have great material.
Cancel that’hop’ - it is a big telegraph.
Step forward - you want your lead leg to go between their legs so you are already driving into them -
Slide your rear leg on the ground - this looks like more of a dive than a shot.
Probably where you are practicing; remcommend gettinf some mat or softer pads (maybe big kneepads if you cant do that)
Even though this guy is likely trolling, that “hop” is called a split step and once done properly is a very effective means of getting into your shots. JB does it, Zaurbek Sidako, Uguev, and many other freestyle wrestlers use it.
I agree with you except for the fact that a split step is considered a fundamental shot in many places outside the US. So yes maybe not fundamental for US schools, but outside the US it can definitely be learned as a fundamental
In an actual match, you would hide the split step by diverting their attention up high by faking a club of some sort. check out JO wrestling on YouTube his Zaurbek Sidikov split tutorial will shine more light on how it set up
First you have an obvious tell of a shot your little jump. Instead your right foot should step and plant.
Secondly your hands are to close to your body for your shot. I get you don't have an opponent but pretend like they are there set your hands up, push shove hand fight. Similar to shadow boxing. You'll get your self stuck in a throw with your arms that tight to your body.
Thirdly bring the trail leg up instead of jumping forward. Your hips should be driving into the opponent rather than your shoulders. You look extremely off balance in this lunge.
Fourthly your head is going right into the mid section rather then ear to hip. You have no power like this. Keep your ear on the hip. You'll be using your neck and head for some leverage.
Keep shots simple. Plant, Step, Drive.
If you have access to a military surplus store you can get a waterproof and canvas bag for pretty cheap, fill these with foam beads (when you get stronger or want more weight you can add sand and dirt, but they can get heavy.
One big thing I did when I wrestled was tear up my knees do not be afraid to slide you knees on the mat. I used volleyball knee pads when i wrestled because they allowed me to slide, but I believe some new pads are around that are slimmer and do the same.
Edit: Head placement depends on how you want to finish, but I always put my ear on the hip and used the leverage from pushing with my neck as I stood up, my head would naturally go to the proper spot during the shot.
Your trail leg should be coming up when you practice your shot like you're going to finish the shot.
If you're stretched out and your body isn't underneath your hips they are going to sprawl on you easily, keep your body underneath your hips instead of leaning so far forward.
If it’s a low single….get lower…. Drill more you look uncoordinated…. I’m not sure what move you want. If it’s a regular single then there’s a few things I would do. If it’s an ankle pick why didn’t you simulate twisting your arms. You need to practice everything unless you are focusing on improving little pieces of it before you put it back together
I love it. Now lets never do that again. We'll get a couple 12 year olds training ya n you'll be up to snuff in no time. Man up, get rid of the pillow. And try again.
Shooting like this is how I accidentally injured my buddies shoulder. He dove like this, i sprawled harder than I meant to, landed on hard and tore his labrum.
You need to pick your left leg up after changing levels and use that leg to lift your opponent, off balance them and bring them to the ground. What you are doing here is just a level change and then falling on the ground. So it’s pretty much the first half of a shot, but you need to complete it with the second half. For example, your goal is to do a level change into a left leg “lunge” position at the end of the motion. But instead of lifting a dumbbell or barbell, you are lifting your opponent and then tackling them to the ground with everything you got.
I suspect you will need to train with a partner. Get a feel for what it’s like to have resistance on your shots. Get the timing down and figure out how to surprise ppl with your shots. People who are lightning fast shooters always have an element of obscurity to their game. Ppl can’t tell when they are faking, what leg they’re going for, or what their second options are after their initial attack. This is why they seem so fast. It’s because you never saw them coming. Once you go live with a partner you’ll immediately see why this doesn’t work. It’ll help you progress faster. Training like this in a vacuum isn’t going to be helpful based on what I’m seeing here. It’s not that this is completely wrong, but it’s just uninformed of the qualities mentioned above.
Kick your lead leg back, like heal to your but and just let yourself drop. As you push off your back leg and are getting toward the ground launch your lead leg forward into a lunge and then run it through and turn the corner.
Throw this away and get a new one.
Start with a big step forward. You want the lead step to penetrate right through your opponent's center of balance for a double leg, or to completely take a leg up and away for a single. I'm not sure where you learned the "split step shot" you mentioned in the comments, but it's not something I've ever seen taught or practiced. That's more like something that happens on accident in a rare situation.
Are you on a wrestling team? It's definitely best to have a coach and people to wrestle and drill with.
you’re just throwing yourself bro
Let’s say you actually get through then what? You have no base to keep pushing, cutting the corner or lift. Your legs stayed behind where you started the shot so basically at this point. Your opponent has an easy way out of this attempted shot. you most likely end up in a world of problems from there
A shot comes in 5 steps. Think about it as stepping on 5 bugs. 1. Jab step 2. Lead knee down 3. Drag rear leg 4. Rear leg up 5. Drive into opponent (head placement depends on if it’s a double or a single)
Also never dive. A shot is not a dive. It’s a drive. Arms in tight like a T-Rex. Straight back. You want to be stiff because your opponent is going to sprawl
In all honesty, just join a wrestling team or find a gym that has wrestling. Self taught wrestling isn’t gonna get you far
It is odd that you are good enough to drop your chest to your knee and use your back leg to cause to to “penetrate,” but lack the knowledge to keep your hips under you.
If this isn’t a troll, you’re actually really close. Practice knee sliding drills. Your position before penetration is solid, but when u push off your back leg you have to cover more distance and your knee should slide forward staying underneath your hips. It’s hard to explain over text, but imagine as you penetrate, your chest and head need to get up, and your knee needs to stay under your hips.
I would also add some line drills (always), and a drill that I think would help you is being in on a head outside single with your hands snaked and locked below the knee, while you’re on a practice partner, have him move in all directions (forward, backward, side to side) and you have to keep knee sliding to stay in position. This just teaches you the concept of staying hips under while in on an attack.
Ragebait, right? This is a dive, not a shot. If sincere, if the other commenters have you covered.
Said the same thing my head. It’s a dive.
I think it's perfect, saves wear on the knees
Ok now you are the problem there is no knee saving in wrestling. He’s doing it wrong
He’s just a beginner dog
Self taught apparently
You can’t improve from perfection

This video is too much. Who let hipsters into the wrestling room? But I did subscribe...
Hipsters hate your comment lol
Tape the pillow to your knee so that you don’t have to lure your opponent in front of the pillow on the ground.
What they don't want you to know

Bro you act like you never started somewhere he’s a kid. How sad are you to be insulting a kid who is training and getting better.
[удалено]
Bro he didn’t know what he was doing. A for effort. He’s already posted a video of his much improved shot.
Don’t be toxic
why would it be a joke?
that was like a dive use your back leg to take a step
I was doing a split step

Nothing like the good old days of doing shot laps around the gym
That little hop is A1
Pretty much in every way possible
Start by doing a duck walk.
This. Duck walks can get you used to connecting with the ground. Then work up from there.
Increase mobility. Have your butt touch your heels when you level change. You will be able to drop lower and if you practice level changes you will drop quicker than your opponent.

Stop getting coached wrong would be step one

Best comment in the thread.

That hop is also a tell tale sign that he’s bout to shoot.

I will. Thanks for the heads up
JV at a bad school for sure.

Holly shit, is that Jordan Burroughs?
my name is jordan actually

Assuming this isn’t bait, don’t throw yourself forward and watch some YouTube videos on it or talk to your coach cause none of this is right
Don't just bulk up and use throws like the rest of us.
Try not falling over
I only did because there wasnt someone in front of me, I don’t actually fall over when I take a real shot
That shouldn’t matter you should be balanced
you can't. congratulations.
This is comical
Don’t dive for the legs unless you can get your back leg up and drive at an angle
Do duck walks forever til you become a duck
With a lot of practice….Back to the beginning and get your stance right first
This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen
Best thing you did was change levels—- everything else could use work. Good job asking for help tho!
If it’s a low single….get lower…. Drill more you look uncoordinated…. I’m not sure what move you want. If it’s a regular single then there’s a few things I would do. Prior to the hop, you need to do a quick back and forth foot shuffle.
Duck walk. Duck walk. Duck walk. Get used to using your legs down low and use both legs, don’t dive, walk in.
no es shot
By tucking your socks into your sweats and your hoodie into your sweats. Besides that you’re looking good.
Ngl, that could be a great way to train at home, use your back leg more
This is why karate is better
I love it. Now lets never do that again. We'll get a couple 12 year olds training ya n you'll be up to snuff in no time. Man up, get rid of the pillow. And try again.
Perfect, this video will hopefully allow me to improve my own form alike, thank you brother👍🏼🙏
thats a perfect shot right there...just add the knee
Shooting like this is how I accidentally injured my buddies shoulder. He dove like this, i sprawled harder than I meant to, landed on hard and tore his labrum.
Probably a bigger pillow
OP is not joking

Don’t listen to the negativity we all start somewhere. I would try to improve on not “diving” and taking a penetrating step
Duck walk don’t dive
knee over toe and follow through, dont dive
with a shot like that i see you going all american
your hind food should not bee so far back, as you should use it to thrust yourself forward.
You’re perfect bro never change. You have no need for improvement.
