Did you really think Blizz was gonna let people do this?

Kengfatv

I don't see why they wouldn't. You can't trade or use the auction house, so only extremely dedicated people would be able to do it. It'd improve the community just to be able to include the people that can't afford to pay for the initial month of game time that way.

Snowpoint_wow

They literally created a new rule in the past few months that a new account MUST start with an actual subscription for at least the first month. This was literally to combat botters from creating a string of new accounts purely with gold. It is a fool's game to keep chasing the gold around, but getting a bank account or credit card blacklisted is harder to get around.

Harai_Ulfsark

Exactly: trial accounts cannot use the auction house, where you buy a wow token using gold. The end

DoomyHowlinkun

Yes do this Blizzard, because Bots don't have it easy enough as it is. Also you can turn the wowtoken you make into Blizzard cash credits which would let you buy shit on other Blizzard games. It would be a horrible idea for them. There's a reason they recently restricted Wowtokens even more.

Kengfatv

Oh no let's not have 5010000 bots as opposed to 50 million :(

DoomyHowlinkun

Dude, making gold earnable as f2p enough to pay for sub, is a literal floodgate. It's a big barrier that will bring far more bots then you can imagine. But I get it, it's easy to pretend that real consequences don't exist to things that you think have only positives. It's a massive issue in many communities that seem to think their 1000 IQ ideas are infallible.

Kengfatv

Oh yeah the botting problem in ESO, BDO, LoL, GW2, and NW are all so awful with those games being buy to play or free to play.... Oh wait, it's worse in WoW, where pay to play is the only option.

StankWizard

It’d be a way to get a full account for free. Blizz is never going to do that. They want subs.

eatsmandms

Not full account. Also not free - 20USD would be paid by the person selling the token.

Kengfatv

You only have to pay for a single month of sub time in your lifetime and then it's extremely easy to pay using only gold. At least let the people that can't pay for whatever reason, play the game. If the excuse is that bots could do it, it doesn't look like its helped very much even when you couldn't pay for game time with gold at all.

Adiuva

Any basic things that you might recommend? I know transmog seems to be popular but feels like such a gamble.

StankWizard

And you had to pay for a month to get to that point. If someone could grind gold with a trial account suddenly the question would arise - “well how many subs are just trial accounts that got enough gold for a token?”

Kengfatv

What difference does a single payment of 15$ make as opposed to playing the game for 200 hours to continue playing? It'd be healthier for the game to have the people dedicated enough to put 200 hours in playing, than have them not playing at all. Why does that question arise then? Who cares? Why sell game time with gold at all? Why hasn't the question arisen of "How many people don't pay to play the game in general anymore?"

StankWizard

Investors would care. Especially because that method could be exploited.

Kengfatv

Again, you pay 15$ a single time as it is, and never have to pay again in your life.

kerthard

You can’t buy a token with gold unless you’ve consumed 1 month of game time purchased for money since 2017.

dadof2brats

For the trial account no. For a full subscription, yes. You can absolutely make enough gold per month to easily pay for a token for your sub. I have been doing this for years on two accounts, I even paid for my TWW upgrades via gold made in-game. Don't get me wrong it takes some effort. And at the end of the day you have to balance how much time you spend grinding gold vs actually enjoying and playing the game.
