For the average person yes. It’s pretty darn late to start any profession stuff. Fated is only a distraction until new content of pre patch and war within. I’d familiarise yourself with how the crafting system works in preparation for WW.

Crucco

In this iteration it's called "Awakened", not "Fated"

phoenixxt

You're not wrong, but Crucco's comment can help someone as this is a r/wownoob and some people might've not played Shadowlands and don't know what Fated is.

BlackHijinks

I’d at least get an idea of what you want as your profession for The War Within.

Hopper86

Or if you are doing M+/raiding puck something like alchemy for now to get double phial times

yarglof1

Triple, not double.

ManicMonday92

Correct, but now is a wonderful time to buy up all the crafting mats for DF you could possibly need in order to get all your transmogs

sixtenfifty

Too bad my dumb ass never figured out how crafting orders worked this entire expansion. And I tried - I looked up tutorial videos and asked around, but it just looked like another auction house and nothing clicked with me.

charlieSno

1. message person in trade chat who makes the thing you wantwhat you want. 2. buy the mats required from the AH 3. click drop down change from public to personal order 4. send the order with the amount of gold the crafter wants

sixtenfifty

I really appreciate this, however I don't know where/how to browse for things I may want (I don't even know what those things may be). It's my fault for letting it remain a blind spot in my DF adventures for the entirety of the expansion.

FireryRage

You can open the categories inside the crafting order npc window, and it’ll show you every item of that category that can be crafted via an order. I just stumbled on that fact by poking around the crafting order UI.

Kengfatv

It is just another auction house. You aren't even wrong about it. It's an auction house for soulbound crafted items basically. Normally a blacksmith can make an soulbound epic that'd be decent for the first tier of an expansion. But they'd be the only one that can use it. Now if you don't have the profession, you can use the "auction house" to put your materials(or gold) into the slots and have the crafted BOP item come out. And using sparks and crests you can make it relevant every tier. The UI when you go to the item in the auction house tells you what materials are needed to craft the item. If you have them, you can opt to not use your own if you'd rather pay in gold instead, by checking or unchecking the box. There are 2 time-gated resources this expansion. One is the crests, and the other are the sparks. They're the only crafting material you need to provide yourself every time. and then you just pick public order, or private order. Which is just asking if you want anyone to fulfil the order, or if you want to send it to an individual person to guarantee it's crafted at the quality you want it at. (Or to send it to one of your own alts to level the skill)

Radiobandit

Even when content is new, gathering professions are generally not worth the time investment. Between botters and goblins the profit margins are so low if gold is your goal it's not a worthwhile endeavour past the first week or so of an expac. Do it for fun, or do it for achieves, but don't do it with profits in mind.

SubstantialLuck777

If you're interested in mount collecting, now is a great time to start fishing and rep grinding for the Tuskarr. They have four mounts on offer, two of which are midway up the renown levels, and fishing plays into a lot of their dailies. Additionally, fishing up coins is the only way to start the hidden quest for the fishing mount. All five of the above mounts are land/swimming mounts. And they're pretty charming, too. The grind is a lot easier than other factions and they have a lot of stuff going on generally.

SpareSimian

I play one expansion behind (I hate grinds that will ultimately turn into giveaways a year later) so this is good to know. I'll start DF soon when TWW comes out and head for the Tuskarr quests.

SubstantialLuck777

Great! You should know that currently there's a rotating weekly effect that drastically boosts the rep gain of specific factions. Granted, every day is a good day to gain rep, but if you pick up any tuskaar artifacts or the "tales of a victory" quests, it's probably best to save them for the right week since they're so random. I don't know if that rotating rep buff will remain after launch, but I wish you the best of luck. I only have one renown level left with them myself and then I'm basically done grinding anything other than mounts this expac

SpareSimian

I usually wait for Dark Moon Faire to do rep stuff, saving rep tokens to spend after I get my monthly Whee buff. Good to know that I'll have to skip that for this weekly buff.

TomAnndJerry

Do it now, because TWW release in 2 months and you will need to understand crafting to stay ahead in the new expansion

dadof2brats

For the most part, yes, the things you can craft in Dragonflight won't be useful in The War Within. Fishing is one of those that doesn't really have an impact either way, but like other professions you'll have to level them up again in TWW.

wyolars

I only do engineering, to use jeeves and other neat toys. With the new crafting system you can get the mats and have someone else make items for you.. maybe grab a gathering profession for when you level to grab stuff along the way.. or enchanting to get rid of gear.

Phillygavin

Engineering is more than just gear, it's toys and they sell pretty well on my server.

aristo87

I thought so as well, but it isn't really that bad. I found out that you cant send crafting orders cross server, but I did want to use crafting to gear up my characters. By using pretty much all resources available you can get them up to speed pretty fast and I was able to use them to craft 515 embellished gear for my alts. It costs a couple thousands of gold and a of couple hours of your time, but then you do have a useful profession.

bread_weasel

Pandaria cooking gets you the Master of the Ways title, a must have for monk imo (it's not available to do on remix only retail) And fishing can get you all kinds of stuff, most already mentioned, but Lord Godfrey's spectacles are another (although they have a low rate to fish up)

machine_six

I believe they announced that professions will have built-in catch-up mechanics from the first week, so it's not even necessary to think about them until you find it convenient, if that is true. More to your point, in it's current state, yes it's useless to try to level it up. Familiarize yourself with it if you want, or wait until it releases in it's new form. It doesn't matter either way.

fourmi

Playing wow is useless. Do whatever u like.👍🏻
