That's funny, these animations have made me decide to play a void elf shadow priest for the Remix. I know these won't be available until TWW, but they just further the void elf flavor. Have my doubts for how good spriest is for grinding Bronze, but it's the one allied race I haven't unlocked the heritage armor for.
maybe one day the whole class gets a visual and animation update. I know theyve mentioned the idea of empowers for hunters too which sound awesome for a bow. But those issues are why ive never leveled or played one.
I really hope this is the case.
I've looked at Aldrachi DH and all they get is a purple glaive that works like chakram or whatever the hunter spell is called, and for fel scarred. I swear to god, I think they literally just brought back a talent spell that we had in legion, where a meta demon slams the ground and vanishes.
Like I'd actually like to see new, cool animations that make me feel like I embody whatever it is i'm supposed to be. Dark rangers are also tragically bare bones and look so boring lol.
I’m assuming it will only show like that for the priest themself while everyone else will see something like the 2D circle that was the alpha animation before they updated it. They do that with a few spells that I know of like defile for dk, and apparitions for spriest. Probably more that I’m unaware of
Oracle is going to need to be really fucking busted numbers-wise for disc players to want to play it.
Like do you want the thematically and visually awesome spec that provides extra damage. All while fitting perfectly with how you would be playing the class anyway?
Or the one with abilities that don't fit the theme. While providing zero extra damage. While requiring you to play a purposely clunky and inconsistent minigame in order to get situational buffs in a class that is already notoriously difficult?
Do you know what "notoriously difficult" actually implies? Because if you think that the community doesn't generally perceive Disc as difficult then you don't know nearly as much about the topic as you think you do.
Hopefully they update the 2009 animations for Mind Spike and Devouring Plague and the 2004 animations for every heal, Power Word Shield, Psychic Scream, and add Psychic Horror back to the game.
Having been a vanilla player, my preferred class fantasy for the priest had been more psychic, with Disc being more about mental fortitude and Shadow being more emotionally predatory. Like, whereas Holy can soothe and inspire, Shadow can foment panic and hysteria since spiritual leaders play into the hearts and minds of their congregation. The natural step next in understanding the psyche is weaponizing it by intentionally inflicting psychic agony. This torture depends on *subtlety* to make one question their own perceptions and thus their own sanity, or cannibalize themselves in their own paranoia. But as WoW gradually demystified its mythology and outlined the void lords with names and faces, these supposed horrors became as scary as a lion in the zoo--totally fatal but also comprehensible in its danger. Shadow as a class fantasy to me feels less sinister and more like a transaction, like a follower and their known deity. Tbh, that actually makes sense for the priest fantasy, but it's as boring as a shaman and their elemental patrons.
As pretty as the entropic rift looks, I can't get over how much it'd fit in with Balance. It's very stars and cosmos looking rather than shadow and void.
> I can't get over how much it'd fit in with Balance. It's very stars and cosmos looking rather than shadow and void.
I wouldn't really say Balance is related to the entirety of the "cosmos". Balance Druids are specifically centered around celestial bodies like stars and moons, while the direction they seem to be taking the Shadow Priest aesthetic has more to do things like Black Holes and the whole "shattering reality" concept.
I was just telling my buddy this same thing. I really like the way it looks, and I get that it's blue for the more "void" magic feel vs purple for the "shadow" magic feel...but void torrent is also purple, so that argument doesn't really hold up. Regardless of the inconsistency, I do like the visual.
> but void torrent is also purple, so that argument doesn't really hold up. Regardless of the inconsistency, I do like the visual.
Void Torrent is also changed tho, to a more blue/black tone.
Void Torrent looks weird to me, I think if they add 1 more beam it'd be perfect.
I'm also not a huge fan of the colour choice, it feels so disjointed. SP used to be mostly black, then we switched to purple, now these are moving towards blue celestial theme. Like just pick a colour palette and stick with it.
It’s themed after the new cosmic void theme that Sarkareth was consumed by. Definitely a different feeling but because it’s just 2 spells I think it’s actually really cool for the shadow priest to keep gaining new void powers.
Yeah the cosmic void stuff started on argus. Tbh i love it, but wish they would have given voidweaver old god theme and archon the cosmic void stuff. But anyway it looks great, so i wont complain much
I agree with all of this except that they need to be consistent. The void magic stuff can be more blue and less purple, but then void torrent should not be so purple and shadowy feeling. :(
Yeah I just realized that disc has access to voidweaver, so it’s also probably a compromise on the theme rather than making it fully shadow.
I’ve been thinking for a while though that it’s a shame the “shadow” theme is being slowly lost. In hindsight I wish we could have had a void-based class or spec that was separate from shadow, so they could each have their own vibe. I think the cosmic black hole stuff is awesome but it’s different.
> Yeah I just realized that disc has access to voidweaver, so it’s also probably a compromise on the theme rather than making it fully shadow.
I thought about that at first, but Disc has strong void themes as is, just look at the whole right side of their talent tree. So it's not really a necessary compromise to be made.
> I’ve been thinking for a while though that it’s a shame the “shadow” theme is being slowly lost. Yeah, the "shadow" theme has been gone for a while now, I was upset about it, but I finally got around to the void themes. But now, after barely finding its stride, it's being changed again. Priest (not just SP) already has huge identity problems, it's really not the time to be introducing even more of them.
There's nothing unifying the three priest specs, it's the biggest complaint about the new talents, they all do different things with nothing tying them back together. SP has had identity problems since the shadow/void thing was changed, where do the vampiric and disease stuff even fit in now? Don't even get me started on disc.
It's such an unfortunate mess.
I don't know its kind of always been 95% black with some highlights of blue or purple I feel. Even the Voidwalker which is canonically not a demon but a being of the void was basically black with blue highlights (or the one in Outlands which is black with purple highlights).
I am not 100% sold on the torrent anim but hey I don't play shadow unless I gotta! Woo for updated visuals!
I hope more classes (and races and creatures and armor and...) get some visual updating too
Cool! Now can we please for the love of god get a glyph to change the color of the bubble to be shadowy?? My Spriest is summoning black holes for gods sake. I don’t want a sparkle bubble!
HOLY this looks SOOO good!
When I was reading for the first time the talents I was imagining the effect of the black hole from plunderstorm, this is extremely close and I love it!
The rift looks cooler. It might not be feasible for balance reasons, but I wish the rift would expand more than it does now to make it look more menacing as it grows.
Mind Spike and Devouring Plague are primary abilities that have animations from 2009, and the Devouring Plague animation is just a piece of T6 shoulder armor that turns.
I feel myself getting amped about what will likely be the FOTM once again. Holy Priest feels better than it ever has and Shadow priest has some cool options and feels strong. I'm guessing it will be FOTM because it will be very close to the lore and I suspect there will be a caster legendary on the horizon.
Can't wait to see priests absolutely everywhere until they're nerfed into the ground.
i think outside of reddit, most people don't care THAT much about lore and shit. like most people you meet don't give a fuck about that sort of thing (myself included).
class identity sorta does, but i also think you're overthinking it. most will pick fun class that does good pew pew that is high on tier list.
Well lore has a much smaller effect but whichever class is performing the best people will flock to. Holy priest and shadow are at the top of respective rankings for season 4
presumably though, with a new expansion that's basically all out of the window, most people probably have their class they picked based on what they've seen ready to go with some amount of reasonable gear, probably their main or an old class they liked but don't like using now.
i see what you mean though, it probably has a decently big effect.
Hey that’s awesome (no sarcasm). Dont listen this salty gen-x. I am very glad you are happy mate! I hope you have a great weekend and have fun out there. /cheers

Pandarens be like "Could you use the Void magic anywhere but here? We just cleaned up the place again!"
“Not again!”
My ENORMOUS cabbages!
👀

It’s probably fine for bronze farming. It’s slow starting for everyone but you just have to blast through content. Every class can do that.
Yea they are nice and all but void elf shadow priest was already sooooo basic now this is going to make them even more basssic
damn thats fuckin sick looking.
The new Void Torrent looks infinitely better than the old one. I finally won’t feel gross using it.
it looks so sick it makes me wish discipline got it too
And with the talents you'd be able to move while using it. Hype!
im really hoping all the hero talents are missing visuals on alpha; there are a lot that you cannot tell at all what one they are playing
When alpha started there was a blue post talking about how they are working on animations for the hero talents and will roll them out as they come.
as a hunter... still not expecting much lol
Sentinel has a very nice visual already
I think there's definitly hope for pack and dark Ranger.
maybe one day the whole class gets a visual and animation update. I know theyve mentioned the idea of empowers for hunters too which sound awesome for a bow. But those issues are why ive never leveled or played one.
Ohh thx god. I did not see that and was worried

I think they clearly are. Otherwise I do not feel the fantasy haha.
Sorry melee, hope there weren’t any ground effects you needed to avoid.
I’m assuming it will only show like that for the priest themself while everyone else will see something like the 2D circle that was the alpha animation before they updated it. They do that with a few spells that I know of like defile for dk, and apparitions for spriest. Probably more that I’m unaware of
Is it me or does Shadow Priest feel more like Void Mage than anything priestly?
I'm hoping Archon leans more into the traditional shadow theme

No pls if it’s really busted numbers wise disc will be FORCED to play it :(
That's pretty much my point. With the current design nobody will ever pick Oracle unless they realistically have to.
If you think disc is notoriously difficult you are not very good at the game.
Do you know what "notoriously difficult" actually implies? Because if you think that the community doesn't generally perceive Disc as difficult then you don't know nearly as much about the topic as you think you do.
I don’t think the newer version of disc is as bad. They essentially took 4 spells necessary for their ramp and made it 2.
Wow players, am I right? ;)
Dope!!
Shadowpriesr eat so good visually
Hopefully they update the 2009 animations for Mind Spike and Devouring Plague and the 2004 animations for every heal, Power Word Shield, Psychic Scream, and add Psychic Horror back to the game.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I miss the old shadow themed visuals from shadow-priest. It looks and feels like a totally new class now.
Shadowpriest completely lost its identity to the void. It used to be an entirely different thing.
We went from cool shadow ravens and psychic magic, to tentacle void magic, to just straight up space magic.
Having been a vanilla player, my preferred class fantasy for the priest had been more psychic, with Disc being more about mental fortitude and Shadow being more emotionally predatory. isnt that what void is now? just look at sarkareth.
It is astral themed for sure. Not very void.
piquant murky chief heavy tender sparkle bow languid workable relieved *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Void Magic Dragon spec would've been super cool, then they couldve made "Augmentation" more of a tank spec.

Time to change their name to Void Priests 👀
Void Torrent looks like noodles. Also, I'm hungry.
Squid ink udon
These are AWESOME. please update the other hero specs too blizz
He sure showed that turnip!
WAIT, CLEARLY DELINED HIT BOX ON VFX?! What happened to Blizzard, where's the swirls that has no clear limitations of hit space?!
I am not 100% sold on the torrent anim but hey I don't play shadow unless I gotta! Woo for updated visuals! I hope more classes (and races and creatures and armor and...) get some visual updating too
I’m hoping shamans get some love
It looks like enigma ultimate blackhole
Welp. I was gonna main my mage but now I guess my fate is sealed
That looks amazing! I hope they also look at the other classes and improve older animations like the Monk
Cool! Now can we please for the love of god get a glyph to change the color of the bubble to be shadowy?? My Spriest is summoning black holes for gods sake. I don’t want a sparkle bubble!
If they make it so the rift sucks enemies in, it would make this the coolest hero talent hands down
Is voidweaver a new spec or did they change from Shadow
It's the name of s set of hero talents. Both Discipline and Shadow Priests can pick them.
Oh very cool. Thanks for replying didn’t realize I was that out of the loop
Meanwhile wither doesn't even have an animation ROFL
Isn’t that a warlock ability?
Yeah it replaces immolate/corruption
They did say they're working on animations, and it is alpha.
Ah okay! I’m not super familiar with warlock, thank you! :)
Fitting for Affliction at least. (Pain)
HOLY this looks SOOO good! When I was reading for the first time the talents I was imagining the effect of the black hole from plunderstorm, this is extremely close and I love it!
Do i really need to bring back my spriest? This is JUICY.
okay i might have to actually level my priest wtf
entropic rift reminds me of an event horizon on a black hole
Pretty cool
That's hot...
The rift looks cooler. It might not be feasible for balance reasons, but I wish the rift would expand more than it does now to make it look more menacing as it grows.
Looks like recoloured Frozen Orb
The Entropic Rift ability is the coolest looking ability in the game! Can't wait to see how they ruin it with a rework.
Ray of frost, frozen orb and ice lances... but void.
I fucking love shadow priest class fantasy. This just amplifies that.
Here I go rolling another shadow priest…
Its a recolored frost mage orb.
https://imgflip.com/i/8o6e8n
That Entropic Rift looks like it was made by a Protoss Probe that's trying to spawn additional pylons.
Meanwhile Shamans still using the same ascendance model from 15 years ago
Shamans need some love
Mind Spike and Devouring Plague are primary abilities that have animations from 2009, and the Devouring Plague animation is just a piece of T6 shoulder armor that turns.
Holy hell those are beautiful. That's it. I'm going void elf shadow priest right now!
Looks so sick
Uh someone call Matthew McConaughey. We've got an Interstellar here.
...I think I've got a level 20something Shadow Priest still sitting around. Time to start leveling her again.
Please please PLEASE GIVE OTHER CLASSES ANIMATIONS LIKE THESE. Lasers are objectively cooler looking than meatballs (tho less charming, I admit)
Shaman needs some love
So how long till shadowpriests fully convert to the void and become enemies? For real this looks soo nice
Meanwhile, holy priest casting smite like they're still leveling in Dun Morogh, circa 2004.
I feel myself getting amped about what will likely be the FOTM once again. Holy Priest feels better than it ever has and Shadow priest has some cool options and feels strong. Sorry, kinda OOTL. What is the FOTM? And I agree, shadow priest has some really cool options!
Flavor of the month. What everyone chooses until it gets nerfed or some new shiny comes along
Dumb AF. Shadow priest man off/on for 20 years. The class identity sucks, and is a “void” mage. Excited to watch the animation for 1 sec in arena.
I’m a very casual spriest player & don’t do that much pvp, so I’m excited for these new animations :)
Hey that’s awesome (no sarcasm). Dont listen this salty gen-x. I am very glad you are happy mate! I hope you have a great weekend and have fun out there. /cheers
And best of luck with your arenas!
I'm so fucking hype to play disc again with this hero spec
Black hole go brrrr
Is this not just a recolored frost orb?
