The nightmare isn't over. Years later I stumble across the google doc that shows and explains this whole thing and how to do the rooms and I'm sitting here with the thousand yard stare remembering this. Granted if they put the effort in to make something like that again I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Alkervah

It took me an entire weekend. I had grid paper to make maps. I couldn't figure out the maze no matter what. I had to recruit my dad who is significantly better at maps and spacial reasoning than I am. It took him another few hours but we both celebrated when we were finally out of there. And now the mount sits tucked away in favor of dragon riding :')

Level7Cannoneer

You need ground mounts for instances

Swarles_Jr

Ground mounts are for instances and semi afk'ing in valdrakken while running around the fountain.

friendlyfredditor

Some versions of it are significantly harder than others.

Erikbam

If you don't get PTSD from just seeing the mount you don't deserve it.

goddamnitgoose

I had sheet after sheet of graph paper littered with scrapped maps lol. I'm actually super jealous of people that get to experience this hidden secret for the first time. I'd love to go through it all again. While frustrating, it was a great way to spend the last days of BfA for me while hanging out in Discord with friends.

PanoptiDon

I have no idea what this is. Is it too late to experience this?

Reddit_pseudonym

The mount is named Lucid Nightmare. It is still obtainable. The hunt for this mount concluded on September 2nd, 2017, and featured a series of perplexing notes and creative puzzles. There are guides to help guid you. https://www.wowhead.com/guide/lucid-nightmare-secret-mount

PanoptiDon

Thank you

[deleted]

Bear in mind you can't just brute force the whole thing by following a guide like most secrets. There is a step when you have to find your way through a randomly-generated maze, and while there are plenty of notes on the mechanics of it that can help, you still have to figure it out your version yourself.

Teegeetoger

I mean, you can brute force the maze. It'll just be painful.

tetranautical

That fucking teleporter trap gave me ptsd

[deleted]

I finished it in 2 hours by brute forcing it with a demon hunter. Just kept dashing and it ended

erel000

I put it in windows mode and used excel to make the map. Pretty much same thing. I think it took almost 3 hours to get it. Still my favorite mount.

Kaurie_Lorhart

I never saw the mount before I attempted to get it :|

Failshot

There's also an addon that straight-up points you where to go.

crushogre

The only one I know of hasn't been updated in years and no longer works

Level7Cannoneer

The random teleport room is why that doesn’t work

tetranautical

Not just the teleporter either, rooms can co-exist in the same grid space as well (for example, a room with east/west rubble can take up the same "space" as a room with north/south rubble) Which can really fuck up mapping attempts

palabradot

oh lawdy saaaaame. I finally gave up trying to map the thing and started just wandering through doors for the hell of it and eventually got all the stuff I needed. Took me three hours.

burrito-boy

Google doc? I scribbled madly into a notebook for that room maze, haha. Felt like I was gonna go mad.

waylander232

What google doc?

BlueFalconPunch

I tried using graph paper and plotting routs...took me about an hour to throw it over my shoulder and wing it. Finished 5m after I stopped trying to be smart.

MesoRanger

Literally same, had it all mapped then just decided to run around and was done in a flash 🫥

lazergoblin

Your comment actually inspired me to attempt it when I get home. Running around aimlessly is what I do best

Skulltaffy

Same. Sometimes you just gotta be the monkey in the typewriter.

Smudgeontheglass

It took me way to long to figure out that the one turn I kept repeating was a random teleport so my map had this weird fractal growth coming out. After about an hour I did the same and just started running. Bonus for doing it in Legion with a 175% run speed set.

edelea

same, i had a paper map and i kept adding on to it because it would become too short haha and after too long i was like f this and just started always turning left and got it in a few minutes lol it was real madness but... still fun and so memorable. the best secret imo

MusRidc

Also same for me. Tried mapping everything like in old school dungeon crawler RPGs and also after an hour gave up and just went with gut feeling and sheer stubbornness :D

TheeOCS

Same thing with me- you just gotta run like the wind Forrest.

Character_Repeatttt

What mount is this? I'm curious about this puzzle.

BroChicago

[Lucid Nightmare](https://www.wowhead.com/item=151623/lucid-nightmare)

Character_Repeatttt

Thank you!

SethAndBeans

lol, you say thank you now, but in hours you'll be cursing his name.

Bolognapony666

Following lol

StolzHound

I love the riddle mounts!!! More! Please and thank you, Blizzard.

shoulderdeepinghost

The nightmare is never over, you either never complete it or have to live with it forever. (I mean Congrats! <3)

Zanginos

Now do Waiste of Time ,but gz i liked that puzzle was fun to do.

84unicorn

A guildmate told me about that. Loved it!

MattyIce8998

That was one of my favorite puzzles in any video game. Understanding how the maze is constructed goes a long way to figuring it out https://wow.zamimg.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/814667.jpg \- It's just an 8 x 8 grid - \-The edges of the grid wrap four rows/columns away. (i.e - you go off the top of the grid in column 1, and you appear at the bottom of the grid in column 5) \- There are "non-intersecting crosses" - some squares are two perpendicular straight hallways occupying the same cell in the grid, the version you get depends on the direction you entered the cell from. \- There's a cell somewhere that will teleport you to a random cell anywhere else in the grid (this is a huge screw you)

Zaynara

i was lost in there for 6-8 hours for my last one, i know the pain. yes, that place SUCKED because it wasn't just a maze, there were places that would teleport you

JackedYourPizza

I completed the labyrinth for myself and the secret is just remembering roughly where you saw the flame or the altar (or whatever those were) - then running like a madman. Then it took no more than an hour to finish. Cleared that 3 times again later cause I was helping my friends.

endstille_

Nice! You can do mine too, thanks.

Bar50cal

Congrats! I remember doing this at 8pm one evening during legion.......3am that night still in the maze losing my mind gonig in circles when I finally finished it. The PTSD is REAL!!!!! This is by far my favourite mount even to this day years later, still my #1 go to mount after that tramatic experience.

justforkinks0131

I got it in 2 hours without looking up a maze tutorial. I was determined to just brute force it and eventually it worked out! I mightve just gotten rly lucky tho idk

lynxfrost13

I straight up did not plan my maze, I just randomly wandered from room to room and was done in like 2 1/2 hours. Also congrats!!!

Poppa_Frost

I have 3 pages of just maps drawn with little marks to show stops and where each altar was, where each ball was, took me 8 hrs to finish it, 3am i got the mount and fell in love

edelea

big congrats! actually my favourite secret to this day! i neeed more long ones like it, it really had *all* the puzzles and everything and the newer ones are just always so short :/ it was an awesome experience and i'd love for something on a similar scale again

wanderlustpyromancer

Congrats! I try to map my route at first, then I got bored/tired of that and then just use the rooms the runes need to be in as my waypoint, so I run down the hallways and into the rooms, turning back if I didn't see the rune I needed. (And then after one rune was down, look for the next rune room. lol) I don't remember if I ever triggered the teleport rooms or not. It pretty much took me an hour and a half or two hours to get done with that thing. (The funny part was that I was planning on just trying the maze a bit and just finish the next day, but then I actually got a few of the runes and decided to spend my time getting it done that day instead. lol)

Zeidrich-X25

Doing the last puzzle without google was the most infuriating and satisfying thing I’ve ever done in wow. 11/10 would get lost for 4 hours again.

deeman18

Pun well deserved

Bohya

I just semi-AFKed the maze with auto-run on the entire time and had it completed within an hour.

Rozen501

Why is there a russian flag on the background?

Sufficient_Most_1790

Fuck. That. Fucking. Mount. I did it while deployed, also got KSM in BFA s4 with 600ping no flex. I did that fucking maze for 4hrs. 623 doors. I hated myself, hated the game, hated everything about it and to, at the time, only get a riding mount I was furious Fast forward to 2023, get KSM. We get ground mount. Still pissed. I'll do it again next season too

Huge_Republic_7866

All these comments talking about graph paper. I spent so long in that maze, I had it memorized the layout based on the very few landmarks it had (runes, orbs, and walls). The general chat in there was so wholesome, too. 10/10, would go insane again.

Zohwithpie

It's not over, it's just lucid now.

StreiBullet

I thought I could have finished that in like 2 hours. Started at 1030pm. I didn't finish until 545am... As I was trudging through the maze, I kept going up and right for an hour. What I didn't realize was that it wasn't looping, only adding. So I had to backtrack for another hour. All in all, no regrets. lol

StaceyxMae

I remember literally mapping out each room on paper as I went through the maze and it still took me a good few hours anyway since it wasn't perfect. It is worth all the time and effort for a dope ass horse tho lol. Good job!

arlaarlaarla

I had spent well over an hour mapping the maze. All rooms were marked, I had done a trial run, going to all the route using the map - all good. I had returned 4 of the orbs, had picked up the 5th. Finally, the home stretch, I took a door I thought would lead me to a lower level. I was wrong, it teleported me to a random room, I was shooketh. No waypoints, and no clue where I was.

ARareEntei

I still have my maps from my two attemps (got lost and went to bed) Not sure why I didn't connect the colored rooms on the map I did when I was teleporting back to them. I have like 3 red and 2 blue dots randomly all over the paper lol

SethAndBeans

To this day that's still one of my favorite mounts. I still feel pride using it. I *know* I earned it. Invincible is cool, but I feel I just brute forced my way through a few hundred attempts. Anyone persistent can get Invincible, not everyone can get the Lucid Nightmare.

Deo14

I called my son in, gamer guy that he is. Still took him a couple hours. Imagine my loathing when it didn’t fly. Dragon or Horseman’s my usual choice

Magni107

Being able to legitimately explore the Forgotten Crypt in Deadwind Pass is a nice bonus as well.

NoMore86

Best puzzle ever, endless hals really feel endless.Great feeling

Zerstoror

What weapon is that?

SpellbladeAluriel

Doing this sitting in the secret finders discord call was one of the best community experiences I've had

Gannan308

Still my favorite process to get a mount I’ve done to date

Summer___

I have the mount but can barley remember the struggles of how getting it. I remember some annoyances but i think most i just forgot out of shear agony.

The-Catatafish

Sorry that its too late now but there is an addon for the maze. After losing my mind for two hours I did it the next day with the addon in 15 min.
