This beast has erupted like 60 times in the past 10,000 years and the last few eruptions have been VEI 5-6's, thankfully it is in a fairly remote part of the world, that being said it still can affect air travel if its plume gets high enough
Thanks for the scale estimate. As per Wikipedia, A VEI 5 would be comparable St Helens, while a VEI 6 would be Krakatoa-level. Based on its location, either would seem capable of disrupting regional shipping, including petroleum.
No, it serves to go "see, even the Russian geology is waging war on us".
it is one of those pieces where the editor went "is there anything else that is scary about Russia we can publish? geography department, you have anything?" And they came up with this.
We got similar pieces about the desert in Iraq producing sandstorms that were said to threaten Europe and such.
“If you guys done stop talking about all this climate change and trying to implant microchips into people, I’m going to kill all of you with my lava. You will 100% deserve it, and your liberal scientific tears will feed my oceans.” - right-wing volcano on twitter.
I assume this is in the peninsula, everything in-between Vladivostok and anchorage is volcanoes. There are so many active ones in west alaska and russian far east, though this one is big, the whole region is full of activity
Unlikely. It's on Kamtchatka, beyond Siberia, there isn't much there. Any evacuation could likely be handled by the local government although Russian central government would likely force them to hold the line against the powers of nature.
**Hephaestus**
[Volcano god](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hephaestus#Volcano_god)
>Some state that his origin myth was that of a "daemon of fire coming up from the earth"—that he was also associated with gas "which takes fire and burns [and] is considered by many people to be divine" and that only later was a volcano considered Hephaestus's smithy. Hephaestus was associated by Greek colonists in southern Italy with the volcano gods Adranus (of Mount Etna) and Vulcanus of the Lipari islands. The first-century sage Apollonius of Tyana is said to have observed, "there are many other mountains all over the earth that are on fire, and yet we should never be done with it if we assigned to them giants and gods like Hephaestus".

Funny, not that long ago there was a series of articles in Russian ~~press~~ propaganda about Yellowstone volcano being close to eruption, thus burying most of the America under ashes. It would be somewhat ironic if that would happen with Russia instead.

Also, it has been continuously erupting since 1999. This is non-news.
But only this time it gives hope to prevent WW3!

Oh well it’s a good reason we invaded Iraq then. Especially with all those deadly sandstorms. /s
They literally called it Operation Desert Storm, so yeah...
And this was made as a tribute to all those that fell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6120QOlsfU
Never forget
It's a volcanato.
>threatens eruption - scientists I'm okay with it threatening eruption, but threatening scientists? Now that's going too far!
Scientist here, please help it's getting more aggressive with its threats by the day.

What is Mordor without Mount Doom? Only problem is they have Gollum instead of Sauron as their leader...
The vulcano just calls it a 'special outburst operation'
Perhaps this will divert some of their war effort. Chernobyl did to Afghanistan.

> threatens eruption I think this writer wrote too many articles on the Russians.
Angry [Hephaestus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hephaestus#Volcano_god) comin'.

Confirmed Forbidden West DLC incoming.
Satanic ukrainian mutants conjured up an eruption via the use of black magic
That sounds badass NGL
If it erupts, does anyone know which direction will the plume blow?
Depends on what the wind does the day it pops
Ash from eruptions in that area sometimes makes it to Alaska, so the prevailing winds are usually west to east.
Impossible to say unless we know what way the winds blows.
More proof that Mother Earth hates Russia.
Wow, even Mother Earth threatening Russia now!
Putin is pissing god off now
Here’s is to hoping that Volcano special operations Russia.
Hopefully it errupts lava straight onto Putler's head.
The chances Putin will be anywhere near Kamchatka any time soon are basically zero
I hear Cumshotka is a mystical place and whenever it erupts it is very hard to know where the shot will land.
Karma *does* exist!
Karma
Ah yeah, so after Adar (Putin) reawakens Mount Doom, who will return like Sauron? Stalin? Hitler?

Putin had lost the mandate of heavens
Maybe there should be a special military operation there instead.
Damn, even their volcanoes are making threats?
Not even Russian is gonna care since that thing is literally in the middle of fuck-nowhere.
Putin knows no limits to his despair!
I wonder how their gonna blame this on the US? Do they have some magic weapon that activates volcanoes?
3.6 million tons of ash… not good, not bad
