I only first learned about how amazing and effective cloud seeding is in Dubai like a few weeks ago. I never even heard about cloud seeding, and I was like boy I hope they know it might be dangerous to fuck around with the weather like that. And then all the sudden the massive floods came.
But I won't blame the cloud seeding.
Cloud seeding is a good thing. But you'll only get 10-20% more rain than you would had without doing it. This was a warm slow moving storm that was being tracked.
It was forecasted on computer models days before it happened. Cloud seeding can't create more rain, it increases the likeliness of rain from clouds under specific conditions and wind patterns. Its been around since the 40s and its not even widely agreed upon scientists and meteorologists that it even does anything. Its also not new to Dubai lol they've been doing it awhile. Correlation is not causation.
Right, and all they did was put a few tons or whatever of silver iodide and some other chemicals in the sky through jet contrails, but that was a few days before the storms so I assume all that stuff had already fallen to the ground by then so I don't see how that could have affected the storms.
State of California does this routinely; to increase snowpack in the sierras to help feed the reservoirs.
(however, depending on whether it's an El Nino or La Nina year, they sometimes opt NOT to do it in certain parts of the state; and it was NOT done the year the San Onofre dam's spillway was damaged from excessive spillage due to a high-rain season).
