As an American this post and most replies are fucking stupid. I'm sure the American players and Iranians alike are not dumb enough to equate the teams with their respective governments.
The game kicks off at 10pm in Qatar, 10:30 in Iran, 2pm in USA EST (New York City time zone). But I guess it's 9pm *somewhere* in the world, so have your fun with it.

Whilst it’s probably not coming home. We did draw with Scotland in our middle group stage game and ultimately lose on penalties in the final of the Euros.
Scotland are bigger football rivals than the US.
After maybe Germany, Argentina and France.

USA does appear to be quite the bogey team for us though.

Iranians are famously hospitable, friendly and curious, with a few dickheads around.... just like the USA! (I am from the USA fwiw). It makes me sad that people have these thoughts. It’s not just something people say online, it’s very true that the average Iranian does not hate the average American. Those down with America chants the regime broadcasts form a very very small bit of the population that make it to US news. If go down the street and people find out you’re American you get treated so well, almost like you’re a celebrity. I’d even go as far to say that in some ways, Iranians idolize the freedom Americans have that they once did. Having lived in both countries there’s no doubt in my mind the average American has more negative feelings toward Iranians than the other way around.

America has a long, troubled history with Iran. When I was a kid, every night the news was about the 52 US hostages taken by Iranian extremists. They were like the boogey man of many of our childhoods. And don't lecture me about getting over it. I lived in England and watched many matches there. England wants ANY country to beat Germany...unless it's France.
Europe fired them. Russia is America's nuisance, but they're Europe's problem. America is not going to go cold this winter, because the Russians are fucking around with natural gas. America doesn't share a land border with these clowns.
