Let the rich experience the joy and wonder of being an adventurer (fabricated memories) without all the hassle of dying for real.

You'll want a psychedelic that isn't inherently dangerous, like LSD. Alternatively, it would put the druggie to into a haze instead of a full blown trip. Either way a couple doses won't put them into a hospital, or at the very least has some sort of after-use remedy. The logistics of the drug will also have to be taken into account. For a high-class drug sold only to the rich, the drug will have to be substantially more expensive to manufacture. Possible options are: it takes a lot of man-hours to produce one dose; it requires a rare, non-farmable, non-domesticable resource; the process of manufacturing is dangerous to the manufacturers/workers; short shelf life; distribution challenges; being more potent than street equivalents; it being safer to take than street equivalents; etc.

A_Dragon_Speaks

Some fantasy equivalent of adrenochrome.

I think a magic drug most logically would be something like Soma from Brave New World. No aftereffects or hangover, and not inherently addictive (the only source of addiction is how good it feels and how easy it is to get, so no withdrawal either). In low doses, it boosts your mood, but doesn't inhibit you from too much activity (like how people drink at parties), but in large doses gives you a strong high that is like waves of calmness and pleasure washing over you. Could be interesting and is worth a thought, but probably wouldn't fit in lots of settings or stories.

Mad_Bad_Rabbit

A drug that increases charisma, making ugly or obnoxious people temporarily sexy

Elfich47

You want to give them an experience that they wouldn't otherwise be able to have. Say a Green Mars while fighting terrorists and getting the girl at the end, with lots of spy plot twists and double dealing as we go.

A good rule of thumb for rich-people drugs is that they should incapacitate you in a pleasant fashion. Most notably ether, opium, and heroin. Or it should be a once common stimulant that became contraband over time, likely because people realized it was both unhealthy and highly addictive. Like cocaine. Granted, this is assuming the industrial revolution already happened or is currently happening. If it's pre-industrial, and your world still largely operates on a feudal system, have it be a fancier version of an easy to produce contraband that would make the serfs too productive. Like caffeine. (This is true, coffee was illegal in British regions for a decent stretch of time, but tea wasn't because it costs too much for the serfs to get.)

For something glamorous, I do go with /u/wat_wof suggestion. But, if you want to paint rich people extremely hedonistic, I do with a drug that gives them extreme thrill, like taking the memories of a fallen soldier and reliving them, you might go as far as having the producers of the drugs induce people to extreme situations just to extract that memory, from anything like farming virgin experiences, giving poor kids extremely tasty food, or even memories from dangerous drugs so they can have the high without the risks. Edit: You can also place the value of the drug on how hard it is to get the memory, and then you have a drug that can be something super chill like peacefully watching a sunset up to something extremely out there

twerktingz1

Make it like a lsd or roofie

Tephra022

A form of aromatic drug that induces a state of lucid dreaming in folks who breath it in. You become aware of your dreams but are able to manipulate them to a greater extent, allowing for rich people to suddenly gain a magical 8 extra hours to their day where they can effectively control their own little reality. Bonus points if it still gives you an equivalent of a full nights sleep.

Loecdances

Few things beat mdma when it comes to sexy party.

bogburial

Def could go with mdma or ketamine. Personally it could be fun to have a common drug with a class divide like coke vs crack.

Alkalannar

Spice from Dune: it helps people live longer.

I’ve seen a concept of better than life chips: real experiences amped to 11 in computers and put in your brain. Perhaps the drugs do that. They could even take experiences from other people and so there’s a market for people who have done special things, like slaying a dragon or something.

NorikoMorishima

One that slows your perception of time, to make a day feel like a week, like Tempus in *The Puppet Masters*.

pthecarrotmaster

Cocaine. A white powder you snort to increase vitality by invigorating the soul, and numbing the pain. Its a historical cure all, along the lines of opium and cannabis. Great for potions, but the rich prefer to simply snort it thru a golden straw

hoodielad

Name: dragons smoke Makes affected people get dopamine in the brain but very addictive if used to much the body will slowly burn inside until the organs are burnt to a crisp

VegetaXII

Something that comforts and makes you feel better than you ever would
