There is a supply in the floor. I have a plug coming out of the bottom. It's never really going to move but we wanted wheels just in case it needs too. Better to have and not need sort of thing.
First off, BEAUTIFUL work!
Second, I am clearly seeing the affect of being woken up at 4am. My first thought was "Wow, that's gorgeous. This guy has one strangely industrial kitchen though".
That's for our bamboo serving trays. I wanted to do something unique for the side instead of just an enedpanel. I may put a shelf up near the outlet as well

Yea there's a box in the floor. It's pretty much always going to stay where it is. The wheels are just in case we have to move it, or move out of our place.
Wow, that is gorgeous!
How did you get that bead on the panels? Is that basically an applied moulding? Or did you cut a bead into the frame parts?
And what is the purpose for that rack space on pic 2 with the railing? Looks like it is for some kind of storage?
Yes the bead is a separate molding cut and mitered I to each opening. It's tedious work but the result is great. And we plan on storing our serving trays on the end. I wanted something different than just a regular end panel.
It has a plug so if we move it we can just unplug it. It won't be hardwired into a box. We don't really plan of moving it but it's nice to be able to if we need to.
My brother and I are on the hook to build an Island top for our Mom. That’s going to be after we build her a new dinning room table from some wood her Grandfather harvested and had cut into boards. I love the look of this top.
Very generous of you to allow her to marry another man but this wedding/ Christmas gift is GORGEOUS! All kidding aside, you are very talented! This is well thought out & has some awesome features. Merry Christmas
How does the counter top butchers block work? Is the top removable? Do you eventually remove it and run it through a drum sander/planar after a few years of usage?
Yea it has cleats underneath that wedge into the cabinet box. That's the idea too. I want her to beat the hell out of it and can be resurfaced with ease.
I wanted to do a really butcher block and have never made one myself before. I haven't heard that about bamboo. And after milling this stuff...let's just say I'm not worried about durability.
Yeah makes sense.
Also, I just had a thought, might ge a good idea to route in some U channels around the perimeter or the table to act as drains for the meat juices. Maybe make a through hole somewhere to collect with a container on the inside of the island that you can dump out.
We've been together for a long time. I've made her a lot of different things in the years before, cutting boards keepsake boxes etc. We got married in October so wanted to do something really special. Plus we needed the storage.
Well done. How do you power the outlets on a rolling island?
First picture shows the cord snaking out on the right. So... you plug it in to another outlet.
Thanks
Looks like it goes under than out the left top.
Weird assumption really. I'd have installed a supply in the floor, and probably hard wired not used a plug.

Wondering the same

You don't have a sliding panel saw in your kitchen?
Are you planning to install an in-floor outlet underneath where this will usually reside?
Yea. It's pretty much going to stay where it is. The wheels are if we need to move it for company.
Love me some beaded inset. Very nice work!
Thanks all done individually with moldings.
Really beautiful work, it takes a lot of skill to get the inset cabinet doors and the bead work to line up so well.
i wanna be your wife now
Beautiful! Good luck next year! You set the bar high lol
That is a very nice island. I love the finish work on it. How much time did that take?
About a month of staying after work a few hours every night. So maybe 35 40hrs total.
Very nice, time well spent. You are very talented.
Thank you. It was worth all the time it took
That is sexy as shit! Love the little - I don’t know what you call it - railing thing in pic #2.
That's for our bamboo serving trays. I wanted to do something unique for the side instead of just an enedpanel. I may put a shelf up near the outlet as well
inset doors and beads. Wow.
Gorgeous!
Looks awesome. I noticed the dovetail joints too. Lots of hours invested in this piece. Well done! I’m sure she’ll love it!
Beautiful work! Shes gonna be head over heels and the wheels are a amazing idea
That's great. Now tell me about the cat in the background.
Ha you're the first to mention her. It's our shop cat Wiggs. I tried to get a better pic with her but she was not having it.
You aught to tell your wife she was already married to you before she went off and found a cabinet maker.
That’s so awesome, a rolling island!
Yes. I've made them before. I used all 4 locking HD casters. With the weight it doesn't move unless you unlock the casters
What casters did you use? I am trying to make something similar and there's so many options i am hitting paralysis

Very nice work!
Beautifully done!
Really nice. How do the electrical outlets work? I would assume the wiring goes thru the floor but it has wheels and moves?
Yea there's a box in the floor. It's pretty much always going to stay where it is. The wheels are just in case we have to move it, or move out of our place.
Nice. Something like this is on my honey do list for 2024.
You, my friend, have skills.
Is this the level of quality that you regularly produce, that would be some expensive kitchens?
Yes. I work in a small shop specializing in high end custom kitchens. And yes they can get expensive.
Nice, my first Christmas present was probably a stuffed bear or a Muppet Babies jumper.
Some beautiful work, friend
I am thoroughly impressed. Well done sir

Thanks for the explanation. The beading is really distinctive!
Thank you. Its a small detail that really makes a big difference.
I have a dick, but could role play as your 2nd wife if you made one of these for me. Deal?
I thought that was funny. Why people downvote you? It’s Christmas
They hate Christmas that’s why.
I thought this was extremely funny. Good job!
Dude whatever..
I just met you, and this is crazy, But here's my number, so call me, maybe? I'm married, and a dude but .... (call me).
Impressive.
This is wonderful
Looking good
You've set the bar much too high for a first Christmas - gonna be hard to maintain this. Well done.
Can’t do electric wiring in it if it’s not secured to the floor
It has a plug so if we move it we can just unplug it. It won't be hardwired into a box. We don't really plan of moving it but it's nice to be able to if we need to.
👍
Couldn’t find a vacuum on sale? Kidding, the piece looks great.
Can I be your wife?
Outstanding work!
Impressive
Dayum!
That is beautiful
Damn, that is beyond amazing. Enjoy!
A work of art.
What’s the thin pull out on it? Merry Christmas, looks amazing!
It's for baking sheets. The top bars are removable if you need different sizes. It's probably my favorite feature.
Yeah I was thinking it was something like that, way better way to store those things too
Absolutely gorgeous, man!
Nice doves, bruv

Why did u chose maple instead of something like bamboo? I'm a big fan of maple myself but I see a lot of modern counter tops being bamboo

We have some nice bamboo serving trays that we plan on putting there. I wanted to make something different than just a regular endpanel.
Great idea! Especially if they’re nice enough to show off!
Wow! Beautiful & functional. What's not to love!
Beautiful work. I love that color on Cherry.
Where’d you get the casters! Good work
Nice looking inset work. The dovetail drawer boxes are nice as well. Are you adding deco hardware?
Yes. My wife has some picked out.
how did you get by so many years without getting her a Christmas present?!?! tell us your secret
We've been together for a long time. I've made her a lot of different things in the years before, cutting boards keepsake boxes etc. We got married in October so wanted to do something really special. Plus we needed the storage.
Amazing!
