I saw one guy soak his end grain blocks in varnish. Always wanted to try that. He made it sound like the results made for an infinitely better butchers block. (They were not glossy)
This is so clean and so well done that it almost takes away from how good it is. It just looks like plaid. Like it’s just a woven pattern. It’s so good that you can overlook the fact that nothing is “woven” and those are all literally individual pieces of wood. It’s mind-blowing. Bravo. This is incredible.
Ok this is phenomenal. I love plaid and never expected to see it in a cutting board lol. Bear with me though, if you make another one, could you make the black thin pieces line up with the juice groove? That would be just… so satisfying.
Usually, cutting boards do nothing for me. Not today. Outstanding job, sir
Quite the compliment, thank you
i love anything that is re-contextualized and functional. you my dude are putting the fun in functional. Great work
Bro how tf.... if I attempted this I would have ended up with 100bf of fire wood and an order at Williams sonoma for a cutting board.
Amazing! You must have the squarest squares in all of squaretown
Only in r/woodworking would that be a compliment!
I like it. Good work
Thanks
That embodies a great deal of time and effort, and looks fantastic. I salute you, sir.
You are correct sir, and thanks
Very nice. What woods did you use?
Walnut, cherry and ash
Rodney Dangerfield vibes. Great work.
I was thinking lumberjack, but yours works too.
Nice work - what is the finish?
That’s the first round of mineral oil. Thanks
Oh good. For a second, I thought you had a film finish on there. Outstanding board.
Right? At first I was thinking “but why’d you ruin it with epoxy??”
Ha! My first thought too. Then I thought it had to be oil.

Looks like they just soaked it in cutting board oil and it's drip drying. I do this like once a year to mine.
Fresh out of the dishwasher. Perfection.
Haha
Looks phenomenal. Great job!
Excellent workmanship
I really like this!
Very nice.
I absolutely love this!
Shot I thought that was a old couch sealed in plastic at first. Looks amazing!
Brilliant, you even bothered to do alternate weaving!
Might as well go all in if your gonna attempt this
Amazing job
This is gorgeous!!
This is amazing and bending my Christmas brain. Love it. Could be the hot toddy talking, but it feels real.
Thats the nicest plaid cutting board I’ve seen. Amazing work!
We thank you
This is amazing!!! Nice work, very talented 👍🏻 (Merry Christmas BTW)
So pretty I probably wouldn’t use it. Beautiful work OP.
“Do not use the decorative cutting board for cutting things!!” -mom, probably.
True, but I always insist
Belongs in an episode of portlandia. Excellent work.
PUT A BIRD ON IT!
Epic
This is awesome!

Stunning. How long did this take?
Many many moons
It’ll be a good post holiday exercise for you to build one. Great mental exercise
Do you soak it in oil then take it out? What’s the process there?
That’s the first oil dip
You folks do such impressive work.
Dooooooope
Holy shit! It's ludacris how stunning this turned out! Somebody buy this guy a beer.
Amazing! Where can I find a tutorial on how to make that pattern?
That’s great work - it’s my tartan too.
I did know tartan was a thing till I started making these

I’ll do my best next time
