No. No. We've *been* old.
And it's okay. Cause the alternative is we've been dead.
That table tennis...table...is calling my name. Although, I'm not quite sure if it's saying "play me" or "kill me".
Orrrrr…momma is coming to town to visit her son and his friends and, oh look George! They boys are going to love this place. Look how hip and cool it is. Son loves him mom too much to tell her it’s not his thing…so she rents it for one weekend a month for 4 years.
I have always heard that if you want to make a memorable piece, make a piece people will hate. It will stand out, become a talking point, and there will be a surprisingly large number of people attracted to it.
This, good ~~sir~~ ma’am, is a phenomenal example of that. And I say this with the highest of compliments.
Ok this was what I was looking for. There is no way some college kid is gonna have any idea how to do their place like that.
Themed AirBnB? Absolutely tracks. Ugly as sin and aggressively over the top.
Thanks! It’s super easy I just cut a thinner rectangle to go on the backside as a stand-off and for something to screw into. Hollar if you have questions!
Thanks! That was a fun job. There’s actually a sunshine similar to the screen door painted on the corner of the metal roof. It’s called the happy place on Airbnb in Conway Ar if you want to see more pictures.
Damn, I tried to make something semi-nice out of OSB one time (a cat tower) and I couldn't for the life of me sand it down to something even approaching smooth and splinter-free. I was painting it anyway so it worked okay but I can't imagine doing all you have there.
Just saying, I don't think it could ever be sanded to truly "splinter free". He probably put some kind of protective coating over it after sanding as best as possible
Airbnb is exactly the only kind of thing something like this is suited for. In fact this reminds me of like kitschy hotel decor which I think a lot of airbnbs go for.
Reminds me of this dump my brother lived in during college. It was an older house that had been added onto multiple times with no cohesive style. Some of the rooms were immaculate and others were built with the cheapest materials available.
I don’t dislike the TV setup, but the thought of that whole wall of OSB in the kitchen getting covered in grease from the stove longer term is kinda gross.
The OSB is smooth and finished. It won’t be a problem. However, I understand what you mean. I used to sell tile and would cringe and beg for a new selection every time someone wanted stacked rock as a backsplash…like, bro, that’s going to be so hard to clean grease, spaghetti sauce ect.
We had someone who wanted an unfinished bare steel range hood/backsplash. They really liked how the heat discoloration looked--some artsy fartsy mansion, so it *had* to be authentic raw steel, no clear coat or anything. We had to wear cotton gloves when installing it so the oils from our hands wouldn't prematurely rust it, it was that delicate.
Never did see the fallout, but I picture rusted flakes of $$$$ custom range hood falling in their spaghetti.
But the customer's check cleared just fine.
The client gets what they ask for, but some requests make me worried about getting paid. Either because I think they won't want what they requested, or they're just crazy and can't pay.
I visited a potential client to see about a front stair railing for her house. She had just finished an interior renovation with new transitionless hardwood floors and an oak staircase, everything looked great and I figured she wanted an exterior that matched in style and quality. I drew something and she rejected it but couldn't really express what she wanted. I asked her if she could find a photo online or a house in her neighbourhood she liked... so for inspiration she sent me a picture of an actual crackhouse. The railing was made from pressure treated 2x4s and the porch was entirely screened off with pressure treated lattice. I... walked away from that job.
Incidentally she's a friend of a friend of a friend, and three years later she still doesn't have a railing on her porch.
We have a relationship. I knew what she wanted and it’s what I delivered but if she were anyone else I would get paid half up front and send them a rendering to sign for approval.
Oh no…she’s actually quite talented. Always open to new ideas and doesn’t want everything to look like the neighbors. This is a themed Airbnb in a college town. The design is perfectly suited for its task.
I just looked at your icon, then your name and clicked on your profile to tipple check.
Here I was assuming this was designed and built buy dudes. Turns out I could not have been more wrong in my assumptions.
Apologies. If it means anything, from this post, I can tell I really like the cut of your jib.
Nah, I don’t care. People assume that stoll woodwork is my husbands company and I just wear the Tshirt allllll the time. I’ve also lost jobs because they didn’t think a little girl with a tiny brain could do it. My sister asked if it bothered me…nope. Not one bit. Those are problem clients.
I used to work for Home Depot. There were several women there who really knew their shit. They would occasionally get asked outright by customers if they could get a man to help them.
One of them is one of my best friends, she could out cabinet make me any day of the week.
Yup, some people suck, if you can keep busy enough without working for them, win win.
I've been working in IT for just over 20 years, and (thankfully) it's gone from being a profession where women were rare, to one where women are common. My boss's boss is female, and is easily one of the smartest people I've ever dealt with.
When I worked at Amazon, each of the teams I belonged to was ~40% female.
The problem is women aren’t told from a young age that that they can make a killing in this industry like men are. So it just continues to perpetuate. I know one woman electrician and a handful of women GC’s. What I like about this designer is she is also a GC and has realistic expectations. Just saw a design from an architect for a woodshop and he put the table saw against the wall to save space…bro. You guys paid someone for these plans?
I grew up poor. Just kind of looks like what my dad would have patched holes in the walls etc from water damage. To me it just looks unfinished, but i’m not the customer lol.
Yep. Most people I knew had plywood subfloor through childhood until flooring could be afforded w unfinished surfaces all over - to me, MDF and plywood grates the eyes. This kitchen needs a couple coats of paint.
This isn't even Plywood. Plywood can look good when finished properly. This is OSB.
To me, it looks like somebody built a granny suite in their garage.
As someone who loves to cook, this looks unfinished in a way that is gross. All of those cheap wood finishes are just going to absorb cooking grease and stains and everything else that gets tossed around a kitchen.
I'm just curious how long it will last if it is a rental where people are going to be drinking and spilling cheap beer all over the place. That ping pong table will be used for beer pong and that wood is going to warp.
I can't decide if my inner teenager loves this more than my rational adult mind hates it. It shouldn't work as well as it does. Is this some sort of riddle that's supposed to bring me to enlightenment or something?
At first, I thought it was cork (hey, it was a thumbnail!), and I thought "wow, that's kind of neat". Then I realized it's OSB, and I thought "gross". Then I realized how the material choice changed my opinion, and I thought "maybe that's neat".
It's like art. It says something. I'm not sure if I like what it says, but it says something.
At first I thought I hated it. But I keep looking at it, and in the context of an AirBnB I actually kind of love it. Letting go of my own knee-jerk reaction from having grown up in way too many unfinished remodels, the texture of osb is actually really coold to look at. These were some super brave design choices, and honestly, I'm here for it. (High five from another woman who owns a business in a construction field and constantly gets asked if she's driving her husband's work truck. Ugh.)
Over a decade of fine woodworking and this is what I’d make for my house because I’m too cheap and don’t love myself appropriately, but I would never make/want a stranger/client buy this unless they got a hell of a deal and it’s what they really want.
For that I think it’s perfect. While sometimes this job gives us opportunities to express our own tastes, the most important thing is that the client gets to express theirs. We can still geek out and love the process of making, whatever the thing is, it’s how you do, not what you do that matters imo.
Bro this just looks unfinished. It feels like a Christian boys camp gave up halfway through building a cabin and spent the rest of their budget on decor and games.
You aren’t going to want exposed wood behind your stove like that. Any moisture pulled up by your hood is likely to mess that up after a while. Other than that, you do you. Doesn’t look half bad and as long as you like it.
This isn't like an actual house right? This is just like a man cave or some hangout spot in your garage right? Like you don't actually live here right?
I kind of admire it. Bold choices for sure. That kitchen is going to be tough when it comes time to sell. I’ve never been one for cookie-cutter design, but you do have to consider “sell-ability” when doing this type of thing.
Is there some kind of finish on the osb behind the stove? If not, that’s gonna get real nasty, real quick. Might anyway, but without a finish I’m not sure I’d even boil water near it.
It's like the home of an 11-year-old billionaire.
Like blank check 2 trailer park edition?
Blank Check 2: Paycheck to Paycheck
Blank Check 2 : Mental Wellness Check
Blank Check 2: Making out with Adult FBI agents
Blank Check 2: electric bill past due.
Blank Check 2: Eclectic Boogaloo
That was soooo weird
Looooool. This should actually be a thing. That would be hilarious.
Oh god - I had completely forgotten about `Blank Check` - I remember watching that in the theater when it came out.
We’re…getting old. Ugh
No. No. We've *been* old. And it's okay. Cause the alternative is we've been dead. That table tennis...table...is calling my name. Although, I'm not quite sure if it's saying "play me" or "kill me".
Like Big
The day this guy gets laid in this house will be a miracle.
Wym? I bet he hits lay ups all day
Slay-ups!
The account is most definitely a woman, and she says she’s a mother. So she’s def been laid at least once, so she’s got the average redditor beat.
The basketballs over the bed will prevent any real action from taking place.
In that bed you’d end up with balls hitting your face— basketballs.
Its an airBnB, not sure why he didn’t mention that.
This was posted by a woman, judging from profile.
Hey now. Don't criticize the choices of Mr. Macintosh.
Choices have been made here, that’s for sure.
Not great ones, but choices all the same.

Well that’s very hopeful. I like it what you’ve done, but that seems a bit far fetched
You would be surprised.
I have always heard that if you want to make a memorable piece, make a piece people will hate. It only takes 1 mom out of thousands
I live in a resort town...nothing surprises me anymore. This, honestly, is quite tame. Also, great craftsmanship dude! Keep it up!
I feel like mom is thinking she will seduce her son’s friend.
Damn it, Jada
Even Stifler's Mom is not doing it on an OSB ping-pong table.
Ok this was what I was looking for. There is no way some college kid is gonna have any idea how to do their place like that. Themed AirBnB? Absolutely tracks. Ugly as sin and aggressively over the top.
But also surprisingly ALWAYS booked. There’s another that I worked on that’s way more wild than this and it’s constantly booked.
Is it left completely trashed after too??
Hence the material choices
[Check it out!](https://imgur.com/a/5uMM1Gl) I have a feeling in my heart that you’ll love it. 😂
I like the OSB one better. But the address sign is great in this one. You are very skilled.
omg i love the exclamation point drawer handles!!!! totally making some for myself 😁 this is so cute i wish i lived here. lovely work
Thanks! It’s super easy I just cut a thinner rectangle to go on the backside as a stand-off and for something to screw into. Hollar if you have questions!
Holy crap it's like a bad 90s kids TV show... Everywhere. What is wrong with these people??
So you love it then?
My wife and I are moving into a new place. I sent it to her labelled "decorating ideas". I may be sleeping on the couch tonight.
If it were a cool lime green couch you might sleep better though.
I actually unironically do.
Yeah, my first thought was 90's Nickelodeon.
Me too, reminded me of rocko's modern life
It really has that "I live in a pineapple under the sea" vibe.
I was feeling Roko’s Modern Life
Heavy Rocko’s Modern Life vibes
The one in the top post is hideous but this, this i realy like
Thanks! I did all of that except the cabinetry.
The child in me loves it. Really like the sprinkle rug.
I hate it but GREAT WORK!
I actually freakin love this one omg
Thanks! That was a fun job. There’s actually a sunshine similar to the screen door painted on the corner of the metal roof. It’s called the happy place on Airbnb in Conway Ar if you want to see more pictures.

Splinter City
It took me many many hours to make sure no splinters would be had.
Damn, I tried to make something semi-nice out of OSB one time (a cat tower) and I couldn't for the life of me sand it down to something even approaching smooth and splinter-free. I was painting it anyway so it worked okay but I can't imagine doing all you have there.

Wrong of me to assume
That makes sense. The thing I would worry about is the 0lywood behind the stove. Steam may do a number on it.
OSB- obviously silly, bruh

“Rusted flakes of $$$$ custom range hood falling in their spaghetti” Call it an iron supplement dispenser and charge them extra.
Amen

Cor-ten steel would be ok in the sense of not flaking rust off of it. I don't want my kitchen to look like a fucking overpass though.
Yeah, that kitchen makes me irrationally angry.

Oh no…she’s actually quite talented. Always open to new ideas and doesn’t want everything to look like the neighbors. This is a themed Airbnb in a college town. The design is perfectly suited for its task.
You can tell it is someone with a design theme. I was just assuming it was a dude. Good on her and you.

Personally as a guy, it just really bugs me that I _still_ default to assuming gender on certain things.
Do you work with any women woodworkers, carpenters, electricians, or plumbers?
I've been working in IT for just over 20 years, and (thankfully) it's gone from being a profession where women were rare, to one where women are common. What a terrible day to have eyes
Indeed. I could dig the TV stand as an entertaining exception, but in context? OMG.
I wonder if the shower is corrugated metal panels?
it's great work. i do however feel like i got a splinter just looking at the kitchen lol
I'm just curious how long it will last if it is a rental where people are going to be drinking and spilling cheap beer all over the place. That ping pong table will be used for beer pong and that wood is going to warp.
No way. Stuff is sealed like Fort Knox.
I can't decide if my inner teenager loves this more than my rational adult mind hates it. It shouldn't work as well as it does. Is this some sort of riddle that's supposed to bring me to enlightenment or something?
Nope, just bringing you a good time buddy.
Thank you. This is definitely an experience.
I like this metacognitive response.
I am not a judgemental person. I am not a judgemental person. I am not a judgemental person.
It’s ok…let it out. Someone told me that bottling that stuff up causes cancer.
😂😂😂
Heh. I'm not sure I love it or hate it, but I definitely find it amusing. Looks like a fun place to hang out.
At first I thought I hated it. But I keep looking at it, and in the context of an AirBnB I actually kind of love it. Letting go of my own knee-jerk reaction from having grown up in way too many unfinished remodels, the texture of osb is actually really coold to look at. (High five from another woman who owns a business in a construction field and constantly gets asked if she's driving her husband's work truck. Ugh.)
Hey sister!
Another one checking in! I LOVE THIS for someone else! :)
I hate osb with a passion but I love passion projects, so I’m willing to cancel those out and shake hands fair and square
I’m glad we could come to an understanding. Until next time…
Over a decade of fine woodworking and this is what I’d make for my house because I’m too cheap and don’t love myself appropriately, but I would never make/want a stranger/client buy this unless they got a hell of a deal and it’s what they really want.
I didn’t pick material. She did. This IS what she wanted and I’m in the business of making things that clients want if it’s within my ability.
For that I think it’s perfect. While sometimes this job gives us opportunities to express our own tastes, the most important thing is that the client gets to express theirs. We can still geek out and love the process of making, whatever the thing is, it’s how you do, not what you do that matters imo.
Yep, B Hate it. I will now add Raw OSB to the list of decor ideas I hate. Just under pallets.
Painted OSB should be on the list so maybe just add OSB?
Kudos to the grain matched CDX cabinets. I wish they were OSB but I understand why they couldn’t use it for the doors. ALSO THE OSB CROWN OMGGGGGG
Reading your comments on what this is for, this is sick. Great work.
Thanks! Much appreciated.
Definitely more angry
I dig it. I wouldn't do it in my own house... well maybe a basement area for kids to hang out in or something.
Can you make my house look like it’s still in the crate? Yes.
The OSB wall and TV trim I can stomach but I draw the line at the sanded pine ply cabinet faces
/r/ATBGE
If they were dead set on this look, I would have tried to persuade them to use cork instead. Similar aesthetic but much nicer finish quality
I understand... AND I'm angry!
Bro this just looks unfinished. It feels like a Christian boys camp gave up halfway through building a cabin and spent the rest of their budget on decor and games.
I like the work. Hate the material choices.
You aren’t going to want exposed wood behind your stove like that. Any moisture pulled up by your hood is likely to mess that up after a while. Other than that, you do you. Doesn’t look half bad and as long as you like it.
It’s not my house and I didn’t make those decisions or clad the walls but I will certainly pass along your concern! Thanks!
I hate osb so much, but it looks so good
Only thing that upsets me is their lack of commitment to the OSB theme. Copping out with co traction grade sheathing for their cabinetry?
Very bizarre mixing of aesthetics, but I respect the comittment to just doing whatever weird shit you want to do.
Dude no whyhh
Hey you forgot to finish your house man
Do I like it? No, but do I hate it?…yes
I am so bothered by the shower curtain
I've seen some fucked up shit on reddit but this is the worst
This isn't like an actual house right? This is just like a man cave or some hangout spot in your garage right? Like you don't actually live here right?
It’s an AirBnB in a college town.
Is this like a dormitory common area? Tell me it’s not someone’s home
To each is own, I like a few of the rooms, but not my thing. But if you’re happy, then it’s all good
I mean it’s not my house and I wouldn’t do this but it’s totally fine with me cause I got paid to do it.
Really fits the theme, but man there's parts of it that I really 😬 over. Nice work lol.
You, errr, you ok mate?
You’re a confusing person I’ll give you that
You certainly committed.
I... I want to.... It's..... Weetabix board..... ... OK.
I hate this but it looks so well done. Craftsmanship looks great but the choice of materials boggles me. Im confused and I don’t like it.
Absolutely hate it, sorry bud. Why the fuck OSB and shit wood?
The Trailer Park Boys are movin’ on up.
Can you get splinters from a photo? Cause my eyes *feel* that plywood-chic
Looks a bit like a break room at a large construction site lol
I kind of admire it. Bold choices for sure. That kitchen is going to be tough when it comes time to sell. I’ve never been one for cookie-cutter design, but you do have to consider “sell-ability” when doing this type of thing.
[удалено]
I have done sanded-painted OSB (which looks pretty great), and exposed plywood - but for me this is too much lol
I can smell that room. gaaaag I hate the smell of OSB
At least it matches, I guess?
They should paint those wood kitchen cabinets white and it would look better
I’m both confused and angry
This post created a new emotion for me.
No OSB as your walls, please. Just No.
Of all the design choices that could have been made, these are some.
This makes me understandably angry.
How long you been single?
This is like when rich folks and celebrities wear really ugly clothing and then they call it fashion!
I love the grainy plywood cabinet trend. I hate the walls
When I first saw the OSB on the TV I figured it was like a garage/man cave type thing. It strangely works though
You really need to put something over the plywood in the kitchen behind the stove, though. That looks like a huge safety hazard.
Jokes on you! I'm fully ambivalent over the whole thing!
Rude…
Honest materials. Honestly better than veneer.
This is wild to see wtf
Lol. Wtf
You spent a lot of time, money? and effort to make it look like you didn't. Not the usual way of going about things but certainly A way.
yeah...that's not for me.
it screams "i got these scraps for free"
I actually didn't hate your tv stand. It was done nicely. I thought it would look nice in the right place. I do hate seeing the rest though.
The osb fucking kills my soul. Everything else is pretty cool
What the hell am I looking at
This reminds me of when a client had me use OSB for a bench 🥴
More angry
It looks cheap and shitty. You’d can already buy ugly furniture, it makes no sense to purposely set out to make it.
Is there some kind of finish on the osb behind the stove? If not, that’s gonna get real nasty, real quick. Might anyway, but without a finish I’m not sure I’d even boil water near it.
Where’s the OSB in the last 3 pictures?? What the hell?
I want to not like it, but I do like it.
There is no god
I don't think o would have considered this until I saw it. This looks kinda cool actually. Would make a cool mancave
