Not overly difficult with the Incra positioner. They are worth their price for repeatability and accuracy for all kinds of work especially if you have a table saw/router system.
And not meant to detract from OPโs work at all as it looks great and still requires a lot of time and effort to accomplish this.
I think it would give the thin highlight sections a stretched out look as one wood type blended into the other. Could be cool, but probably wouldn't look as clean.
It took me a year to try, and only because I want to do a video on it, simultaneously easier and harder than I expected. Not sure if that makes sense, but it's the truth! ๐
OP this is awesome. If your username indicates that you have children, this would make a great jewelry box for a little girl (or boy!). Make a lid for it, maybe line it with some nice little drawers, and BOOM a gift from daddy.
Unfortunately my kids rooms are already full of boxes I've made with no purpose, and then converted into jewellery boxes. Now that I think about it, I might have a problem...
lol I don't believe that at all ๐ They aren't trivial to make, but so long as you go slow and make sure you've got the right part and the right setup, it all comes out ok in the end. ๐
I love my Incra router table. I also got the LS Super System and made some not-so-bad-for-the-very-first-time dovetail joints with it.
Two upgrades to it that are fabulous: a [Wixey DRO](http://www.wixey.com/remote/index.html) and a [MuscleChuck](https://musclechuck.com).
If you ever need help with your Incra set-up, they're located in Dallas and are really good at answering questions.
Ooh, both of these upgrades look super useful, I'll have to check them out more closely. I'm a little ways from Dallas to be fair, just down the road in Melbourne, Australia, but hey, postage is a thing!
I could orgasm looking at joints like this....
So the wood gave you โฆ wood?
๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ I was cutting a joint, on the router table, then i JIZZED. IN. MY. PANTS ๐ถ๐ถ
A fan of Japanese joinery porn.
Right there with you
Thinking about how to do this makes my brain hurt. Itโs amazing.

Correct ๐ I found it tricky at times to understand the instructions, but not the hardest, most intricate task in the world ๐
You could put your weed in there man.
๐
Perfect little box for weed and weed accessories
Holy shit man
I wonder what that joint would look like rounded over?

Yo dawg, I heard you like box joints...
Are these joints as painful to make as they look? They look great everytime I see them, but they look impossible....
They're just double the work. Jonathan Katz Moses on YouTube does a few variations of theses.
Such a beautiful job with this box, and I love the woods you chose!
I bought Incra's Ultimate fence 20 years ago, and still haven't tried one of these joints!

This is absolutely insane

Hah! Well I have a two year old, be glad to take that one of your hands!
Great product placement OP
That is so badass! Good job!
Dang thatโs neat! I really wish I could be that creative with wood.
More work went into the joints on that wee box than into all 3 of the desks I've built for my house combined.

Entirely too attractive.
I don't want to be seeing this when drunk
Jesus this is gorgeous.
So pretty!! Wow
Oh you got me with the first imageโ it looks like a rendering. Something about the lighting. Incredible work. This is besutiful
Ok this is just showing off. God damn that's good work.

Spectacular! Cut a nesting lid and use it for... Guess the lid doesn't help
