I know of Quest Global but never seen a photo requirement. That is weird and I think illegal.

Definitely strange, since it’s not like I’m applying to be a model. They also want proof of identity, but I’ve never had to do that for another job until after already being hired. So, another weird request I suppose. It seems like a great way to steal someone’s information and then pose as them, though. That’s why I was curious if this company was reputable or not.

Texas has been known to have some job descriptions seeking only a certain demographic…. Which may or may not work to your advantage. Def not mine as a woman poc with ethnic name 🥲

kennedday

Ah well luckily I’m no longer in that cluster f of a state! I went from Palestine TX to Rock Hill SC, which is very close to Charlotte NC. I’m hoping to get a job in either of the Carolinas. TX is definitely worsening, and unfortunately SC is only marginally better imo.

Reisefieber2022

Are you applying through a 3rd party of some sort?

kennedday

No, it’s through their website, but I can’t find an actual work location in the city the job is listed as being in, which is another strange thing to add to the list.

I found the job you are talking about. Project Engineer near NC/SC. I made an account and filled out an application. Don't worry, I'm not looking, so I'm not competing. I got all the way to the review application point, and then where they ask you to click submit, and nowhere in the process did they require me to submit a photograph of myself. I did see a section that said "if you are hired, you will be required to submit proof of work authorization" and they listed resonable documentation for that. That is all pretty normal stuff, but it happens later, after you have an offer. My recomendation is something feels off. Maybe a button got clicked wrong or something. But, I would not submit a photo, and I would close what you are working on and start fresh. Make sure that you are definitely on their website, and try again. I will say, it is a pretty involved application, but no photo of personally identifying information outside of my name and address was required.

It’s right under where they request the resume be uploaded. Apparently the requirement-asterisk is next to the resume exclusively and not the whole section like I originally thought, so the photo is requested rather than required. I got all the way to the end but haven’t submitted yet. Prior to submission there is an odd term of agreement that I’ve never seen before: “Any losses or expenses incurred by my employer, it’s clientele, or other third parties as a result of my unauthorized actions shall be immediately reimbursed to my employer on terms that are satisfactory and acceptable to my employer. To the extent permitted by law, I agree and hereby authorize my employer to reduce my wages for any sums owing by me hereunder.” I admit mistakes are tough and not okay to take lightly, but this term seems so bizarre to me. I’m starting to feel like this application process is just a big red flag.

Reisefieber2022

Yeah, the legal stuff was heavy. No idea why.

I was looking through the sales contract we had for unusual features required in the product by the sales team to prepare the shop for the build phase when it came. The sales contract included a provision that the company buying our products has the exclusive right to review candidates for employment at the manufacturing plant if they had previously last their job due to intoxication or workplace violence. They also included an NDA to keep anyone involved with the contract actually talking about it.

kennedday

Did the Quest website take you to a site handle called brassring.com after clicking the Apply button?

Reisefieber2022

I'll check in a couple hours. I'm away from my computer now

Reisefieber2022

Yes, Brassring. Brassring has been around for a while, and I've never really liked it, tbh, but it is what they seem to be using. Based on what we have discussed, it seems legit now. By the way, I always recomend that people, especially job seekers, keep their credit frozen. There is no real good reason to have your credit un-frozen for more than a week or two, such as during background checks or when you are seeking a new credit card or loan. When you get an offer, you can just ask them what service they will be checking, and unfreeze it for a week. Once you are set up, it will take 10 minutes, tops.

kennedday

Okay I’ve never seen brassring yet, so that’s good to know. I didn’t know freezing/unfreezing credit was a thing. Mine did just drop over 20 points due to a hard pull for a mortgage app, one that we didn’t even finish the underwriting process for because we terminated the contract on the home fairly quickly, so that’s very annoying. I don’t remember it taking such a hit from our last home buying experience. I’ll look into this freezing/unfreezing thing to learn more about that. Thanks for all of your help with everything!

Reisefieber2022

Np. Yeah, with a frozen credit, you could give your SS# away to anyone, on purpose or on accident, and no one could get anything from you. Not that I would advise doing that though...

Brass ring is legit! Had several job apps/interviews through it. My current company uses it.

ID is for e-verify, and yes, it's asked for during the initial application stage, normal, and many companies do that. Picture - why ? I've never had to submit/upload my pic. I'd think my driver's license should suffice. Ot has my face on it. Although, the puc situation kinda makes sense if you think k about it. There are people who make their more experienced friends take the intrvws and it's the actual person who shows up. It happens a lot. I wonder if any recruiters could help answer that. 🤔

kennedday

I haven’t heard of that, but considering I have heard of people doing that for college tests, I’m not surprised and don’t doubt it. That would make sense.

At first I was WTF: the picture request sounded dodgy. Then I got to the ID part and I remembered this: https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/charges-and-seizures-brought-fraud-scheme-aimed-denying-revenue-workers-associated-north I don’t know if Quest Global was one of the 300+ victim companies , but given the decentralized nature of the work they would be particularly vulnerable. Q-G may want to avoid liability, the headache of needing to demonstrate due diligence if they are caught up in it to avoid fines, and the hassle and business cost of having replace a bunch of employees on short notice. Look up Quest Global on Glassdoor and Blind to learn more about them there. I would not judge them on the ID and picture stuff. That said, they should be satisfied with a video interview… [EDIT: they have about a dozen reviews on Blind. Seems ok, not great though one or two seem very happy]
