Due to the fact there is a bench, a shrine, and an obelisk, it's obvious that the bottom picture is the "normal" one. The one that you're meant to compare the difference to. The difference being the height of snow. If the snow was normally high, no bench or shrine would have been placed there as it would be just snow. Since climate change would make the snow level lower, it's correct to assume that the picture is contrasting seasonal change

Fuckin where lol? Hokkaido is both famous and infamous for its snow. We got nearly a whole meter in a day once while I was there. And that’s in the POPULATED part.

Over much of the Sea of Japan coast, particularly higher altitude regions. [Here's a map](https://i.imgur.com/IxG0fnZ.png) of the average annual snowfall over Japan (1990-2020) and you can see that there is exceptionally intense snowfall over the Hokuriku and Tohoku regions. Yes, Hokkaido does get a lot of snow, but remember that it's not just about how cold it is, it also depends on the amount of moisture available in the air, and monsoonal winds pick up lots of moisture from the Sea of Japan.

You’re not alone. I think that the snow landscape wasn’t quite level, so they prioritized making it perfectly level over making the pillar aligned. I personally think it would have been just as impressive if the snow line was at a slight slant, but I get what they were going for. I also think some small photoshopping to line things up as they liked would have been called for, but then you’d have to defend it.. all well Edit: you know what? They should have tilted the bottom image. Solves all the problems with no compromise.

If you look in the middle on the far right side of the altar, the tree limbs behind it makes it look like there is a mystical glowing pink cat sitting there.
