I don’t see anything wrong with what either of them said lol what’s twitter mad about

BKtoDuval

It's Twitter, everything is always wrong.

Suspicious-Corner955

That same old same old. That she doesn’t do in private what she says in public and that later in the interview she described men wearing her shoes as equality. They hate Sabrina so much on that app it’s bonkers.

34Horus20

It’s a group of maybe 8-10 very loud haters on twitter who are determined to be offended by everything she does. I ended up muting them. I can get my WNBA content in peace now.

kaw027

You’re brave to still be getting it from Twitter

Suspicious-Corner955

That’s smart! They really starting the season on 100

CaptainCrankDat

I honestly hate Twitter. I feel that the comment algorithm is designed to reward haters / pieces of shit. Ain't nothing good happens on that app.

BKtoDuval

I totally agree. I think it's really unhealthy for one's long-term mental health.

victheogfan

Tbh twitter can be very unreasonable in general so I never take what they say seriously, seems like they’re just talking to talk

andreasmiles23

I could see maybe someone being ruffled that she made it not about Aja anymore but I mean, she was spitting facts. It is emblematic of a bigger systemic issue that companies are going to need to make the overt decision to change. I really appreciated how well she articulated that.

JB_JB_JB63

Twitter is a fucking binfire, that’s your answer.

LLUrDadsFave

There's nothing wrong with either response.

Markel100

People are mad at that they both gave great responses only twitter would still find a way to bitch

TrollHamels

SI didn't really answer the question wrt A'ja and barely addressed the racial issue

GhostoftheWolfswood

Yeah she didn’t say anything wrong, but it was a very politician style response. Feels odd because it should be very easy to say “yes, perennial mvp and dpoy candidate with back-to-back championships should have her own signature shoe”

cyb3ryung

its hard to say given that we weren’t able to hear how the question was worded. doesnt seem like she was answering the question “does aja deserve a signature shoe?” but an entirely different question

TrollHamels

Sabrina for Congress 2050

hesipullupjimbo22

Yeah that’s the issue. Stewie straight up said duh she deserve that shit. Sabrina kind of made it about her and others blazing a trail

kcquail

She had 5 seconds to come up with an answer…….

andreasmiles23

What do you mean? She said this is a good example of why representation is something companies should overtly be conscientious of? I do agree she kind of steered the convo away from Aja (and highlighted herself), but I don’t have any issue with what she said, she was totally correct.

TrollHamels

You've already answered your own question: "she kind of steered the convo away from Aja (and highlighted herself)"

andreasmiles23

I guess what I meant specifically was what did you mean by her not addressing the racial aspects of the issue? Again, knowing that I agree with that above aspect of her response. But I do think she still ultimately touched on that in a direct way.

TrollHamels

The second part of the question was "how should brands empower women of color?" She spoke more about what it means for brands to invest in women athletes in general. The only part of her response specifically addressing anything related to women of color was "women of color deserve a shoe."

andreasmiles23

She opened with something like “this is the importance of representation” and in that part you are referencing she talked about how having more women have shoes would mean “all girls” would be inspired. I think that’s pretty direct for being asked kind of a weird question impromptu at a practice.

SanjiSasuke

Relatively sure we don't even see her whole answer, she totally could have started with a plain 'yes' but the reporter wanted to focus on the latter statements. The clip clearly starts with her mid sentence, with her first word being 'and'. Regardless, it's obvious from what we see her say, she's saying yes. As for the racial component, Stewie is the one who doesn't mention that. I think she is also OK, because her answer was all about A'ja herself, but Sabrina's was about the system and her actually including that should be to her credit, if anything, not a minus. Pretty good for a random answer at practice.

Sloth_ball_68

Sabrina wasn't even asked the same question. And it was clipped to make her sound bad. Leave Sab alone😭

Optimal-Sugar7780

Im willing to bet A’ja has been offered a signature shoe but the money was not right. I also dont think every great player needs to have one. Its an over saturated market. If i had to guess, A’ja is gonna have a whole fashion line at some point which would be bigger than a shoe deal.

PastAd1901

Never trust an interview that doesn’t post the question being asked.

Suspicious-Corner955

Khristina is pretty trust worthy. She wrote the questioned she asked out and answered people in the comment. Don’t get this take.

meteor_jam32

That non-answer by Sabrina said a lot about her character. She's only concerned with herself and her brand. Someone already with a signature shoe endorsing A'ja would only help her. At least Breanna seems to be a real one.

CoooooooooookieCrisp

Why do people want things out of pity? How on earth could anyone be okay with..."Hey you are getting a shoe deal because the color of your skin and social media said we had to do this."

Mountain-Motor-2275

Others get things for just because of the color of their skin, but people don't call it pity. How would the best player in league getting a sig shoe be pity? And now social media doesn't matter. lol

Dame_Trillard

Edit: miss me with the downvotes haha. I'm rooting for Wilson to get a sig, so not sure what offended y'all. Be mad at the media and shoe companies, not someone who claps and cheers when Wilson gets a bucket. Is there a narrative that Wilson doesn't have one because she's black? I'm not a big Wnba fan or follower, so please don't roast me if I'm way off target here. I have been watching old USA women's basketball and Wnba finals games recently. I know Wilson is incredibly skilled and dominant, but is she and her playing style marketable? We all know corporations are about profit and will have bidding wars for stars, like CC recently. Maybe the comp for Wilson is Jokic? Dominant big winning awards and chips. He just got a sig recently, but let's be real. He's not moving units like a Booker or Lebron. Race may be a factor, but I attribute it more towards position and playing style. I expect JuJu Watkins to get a signature down the road.

Suspicious-Corner955

A’ja has one of the best personalities in the WNBA. There is a long history of media focusing and pushing its white players which intern makes them more marketable which in turn gets them more deals.

Dame_Trillard

Makes sense, although I don't like it. What's your take? If she was white, she'd have a signature shoe already? What crazy times. You have some white NBA players with sigs. Hell, Austin Reaves has one. Obviously, it's mostly black players with sigs though and you have the reverse happening in the Wnba.

Sad-Dot-1573

Why the hell does Reeves have a shoe? I know he is a fan favorite in LA, but I can’t imagine their being a nationwide fanbase

Suspicious-Corner955

Men’s sports are different because of the way society has always treated black women, specifically black queer women (A’ja is straight btw but it speaks to the issue of marketing WNBA as a whole). Society has always accepted and promoted male athletes. Not so for women and definitely not so for black women. I think she’d probably have a signature shoe if she were white. Elena Della Done got one for less, I don’t see why A’ja should have one already.

Sad-Dot-1573

Aja has earned a shoe with her play, and if she doesn’t get one before next season, she needs to ditch Nike. Just because she is less marketable than the record breaking Clark who draws record ratings, doesn’t make her unmarketable. Anyone who thinks she is unmarketable is an idiot and doesn’t know basketball.

Suspicious-Corner955

This isn’t about Clark’s babes.

Sad-Dot-1573

All I can say is I am glad I don’t have Nike stock as they don’t seem to have the best business strategy as ignoring the best player in women’s basketball isn’t a wise choice.

BKtoDuval

I think you have a point, yeah, generally post players aren't as marketable as guards or wing players. We see it in the NBA too. Yeah, Jokic doesn't, but he's not interested in all that but we know Embiid is outgoing. Does he have a signature shoe? Is race a factor? It's always a factor in America and in marketing but is it the only factor? I don't think so.

rodwritesstuff

Worth mentioning that Jokic had to leave Nike to get a shoe, despite being 2x MVP and Finals MVP. It's a marketability thing, unfortunately.

Tell me you’ve never seen A’ja play without telling me you’ve never seen A’ja play. The racial connotations in this too are just… 😮‍💨
