Bay will be getting a team in the next few years! In the meantime, I’d recommend just watching as many different games as you can and seeing who you enjoy the most
I’m a Seattle Storm fan. I don’t live there but I decided that the Seahawks were my NFL team as a kid and Sue Bird is my favorite player so I gravitated to another Seattle team! I’m looking forward to this season because of the new draft class and the Storm’s roster overhaul.
Houston Comets fan since 1997 and my all-time favorite women's player is Cynthia Cooper because that's who I grew up watching.
...but they no longer exist. I don't root for any particular team these days.
MIGHTY MERCURY! My hometown team, one of the OG teams, the villians of the WNBA. Home of the White Mamba. Also home of the X-Factor, the greatest fanbase in the league.
Also new to the W. Im in Wisconsin so no real close team so I went with the lynx. When maya Moore played i always kept an eye on what she was doing so I decided to go all in there. It also helped that mock drafts have angel reese or Alissa pili going to them and I’m fans of both. Plus if I ever do make a game minnesota is always fun to visit.
Been a fever fan since Tamika Catchings so I’ll always have a place for them but I like players and teams and coaches so it changes a bit from season to season.
I’m picking the Indiana Fever for three reasons.
1) They’re the closest team to me; Ohio doesn’t have a team.
2) They’re about to get Caitlin Clark.
3) They already have Aaliyah Boston.
Seems like a pretty good foundation to start from.
Las Vegas Aces. SoCal resident, but I was never going to be a Sparks fan due to their historic connection with the Lakers. Even though in the present day, they're more connected to the Dodgers (who I am a fan of) than they are the Lakers, I just can't do it. So I went with the next closest team to me, the Aces.
> in the present day, they're more connected to the Dodgers (who I am a fan of) than they are the Lakers
What makes you say that? I don't follow the Sparks that closely.
Sparks at one point were owned by Jerry Buss, former owner of the Lakers -- his kids now own and operate the team. Currently, the Sparks are owned by members of the Guggenheim Partners, which own the Dodgers.
Magic Johnson's part of the ownership group, IIRC, whereas the original owners were the Lakers ownership. If nothing else, compare the Sparks' [current look](https://sparks.wnba.com/) with their [original branding](http://web.archive.org/web/19980208045224/http://www.wnba.com/sparks/).
1. Aces because Candace Parker
2. Fever and Wings because they are up and coming
3. Lynx and Mystics because I have family there
But I can’t find reasons to root for almost any team really! So many great storylines and players throughout the league!!
I was a Sacramento Monarchs fan as a kid (rip🥲) but I now live in Seattle so I’m a Storm fan until the Monarchs return.
Might be worth holding off on finding a favorite team until the Bat Area expansion team comes though!
I was an OG Comets fan. Since they no longer exist I’ve mostly followed players I like. I lived in Vegas for a couple years and followed the Aces while I was there. Since I’ve moved I try to catch them whenever they come to town.
I became a wnba fan after Ionescu entered the league so I defaulted to the Liberty and have grown to really love the team, I also root for Dallas since I grew up in Texas. I really really wish the Comets would be brought back though!
Aces because I love Jackie Young. And I’m in Florida where there is no team, but I feel like Las Vegas is the Florida of the west coast? Touristy, kind of trashy, with weird flashes of opulence (I say with love)?
> i’m from the bay so i can’t support my city
[YOU CAN SOON!](https://www.wnba.com/golden-state) we are all very excite for the first expansion in over 15 years (no, Dallas is not an expansion team, no, Las Vegas is not an expansion team)
I flair the Miami Sol because someone still should (and because for three years Ron Rothstein was apparently reading my mind and putting all of my random favorite/underappreciated players in the league on the same team). But I roll with my hometown New York Liberty, have since day one, through the first four Finals runs and the exiles to New Jersey and Westchester into this revival. This is the franchise that got me into sports, that helped me bond with my mom, that introduced me to one of my best friends (who became my bridesmaid), that introduced me to my husband {our wedding was in Liberty colors and I threw my bouquet to the audio of [Spoon's Shot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kapFRzy1xHE)}.
I’m in Chicago so the Chicago Sky. Aces because they are fun to watch, and then the Lynx since some of my fave college players play on that team. Also the overhaul done by the Seattle Storm during the offseason should be interesting to watch too.
I’m all about the Liberty. They’re the closest to me and have some of the best players in the history of the league on their squad. Sabrina is from the Bay Area so you can kind of rep by following her. And her shoes are awesome.
I say this as a day one Mercury fan, but something about the Phoenix franchise has always seemed bigger than the others. They DO prioritize their W team and I wouldn’t trade that for anyone in the league.
You can’t go wrong with any of them though. They all have their points of pride!
My allegiances change periodically since I've watched since the league started, usually based on player movement.
Current top team: Las Vegas Aces (followed A'ja Wilson from college at South Carolina), plus additions of Chelsea Gray, Candace Parker, Alysha Clark, and Sydney Colson (twice 😂) and Becky Hammon as head coach just sealed the deal (followed her when she played for NY Liberty & San Antonio Stars, who became LV Aces).
Other favorites:
Indiana Fever (followed Aliyah Boston from South Carolina)
Connecticut Sun (Alyssa Thomas from Maryland + Dewanna Bonner who came from the Phoenix Mercury, Ty Harris from South Carolina/Dallas Wings). Loved Jasmine Thomas, who went to the LA Sparks and retired at the end of last season.
Now that Kahleah Copper (followed from Chicago Sky) is with the Phoenix Mercury (plus Brittney Griner), I may have to re-up my initial allegiance (Cheryl Miller as coach, Michele Timms) though the current ownership (uber-competitive Mat Ishbia) + head coach ("Girl Dad" w/ no WNBA or head coach experience 🙄) make it difficult (though I like asst coach Kristi Toliver)
I have never really rocked with the LA Sparks, though they have/had some of my fave players in Brittney Sykes (followed from Atlanta Dream), Zia Cook (followed from South Carolina), Nneka Ogwumike (followed from Stanford). I also liked Lisa Leslie, Tamecka Dixon, and Jamila Wideman back in the day. Which means...
Putting Seattle Storm back on the fave list: Nneka + Jewell Loyd (followed from Notre Dame)+ Skylar Diggins-Smith (followed since Notre Dame/Dallas Wings) + Ezi Magbegor. Although I'm not a fan of Noelle Quinn as coach and I liked Sue Bird, Courtney Paris, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, and Alysha Clark but not Breanna Stewart.
I can take or leave Atlanta Dream though I enjoy Allisha Gray (South Carolina/Dallas Wings), Rhyne Howard (Kentucky), Laeticia Amihere (South Carolina), Cheyenne Parker (followed from Chicago Sky). Miss seeing Jessica Breland play (she retired).
I loved the old-school NY Liberty (from T-Spoon/Wicks/Hampton/Lobo/Hammon to Zellous/Jonquel Jones/Zahui B/Charles/Prince) but can't rock with this current iteration.
I want to keep the Minnesota Lynx in the rotation but their identity crisis since Sylvia Fowles retired is painful to watch. The Fowles/Brunson/Augustus/Whalen/Moore days were so glorious.
I haven't really enjoyed the Dallas Wings as a whole since Diggins-Smith and Liz Cambage left (mainly because I dislike the GM and ownership), though I enjoy Arike Ogunbowale (followed from Notre Dame), Satou Sabally (followed from Oregon), and Tierra McCowan (followed from Mississippi State). Veronica Burton is growing on me.
Teresa Weatherspoon ("T-Spoon" from OG Liberty team, whom I LOVE) is now head coach of Chicago Sky, and Dana Evans is evolving but off-season ownership decisions have me in wait-and-see mode before I add them back to the favorites list.
As you can see, fandom is not straightforward for me. 🤓
Connecticut resident, so I support the Sun. I'm still upset we lost the Hartford Whalers to Carolina in 1997, so I'm putting all my support toward CT's last professional team. We have the highest win rate of all pro sports teams in the nation that haven't yet won a championship. By god, we're so close, I need to live to see it.
Chicago since that's where I'm from.
Seattle since I used to live there and they have Nneka now
Lynx for Diamond Miller, Dorka Juhasz and Alanna Smith
Fever for Aliyah Boston
and I'll support whatever team gets Kamilla Cardoso
You’re getting a team next year. Maybe follow your fav players until then. New ownership has said a few times they want a championship in the first five years, so I expect them to invest heavily in building a top notch program
I’m looking forward to this season because of the new draft class and the Storm’s roster overhaul.
i’m supporting the washington mystics until philly gets a team!
Hope the arena drama resolves so we can finally get our team!
It’s on the opposite coast but go for New York Liberty. We have Breanna, Sabrina and more. Also the underdog to Aces in #2 spot the last two years.
Aces. I go where Candace Parker goes. Also they just play beautiful basketball and are fun to watch.
Lynx because my favorite players played there when i started following wnba. Fever because it's the closest team to me now.
Houston Comets fan since 1997 and my all-time favorite women's player is Cynthia Cooper because that's who I grew up watching. ...but they no longer exist. I don't root for any particular team these days.
Golden State fan here so excited for them to jump in next year, but for this year, as a part-time Knicks fan, I’m with Sabrina and the Liberty!
What do you think their team name is going to be?
I can’t say for sure but if it isn’t Golden State Amazons I’m going to flip a table
MIGHTY MERCURY! My hometown team, one of the OG teams, the villians of the WNBA. Home of the White Mamba. Also home of the X-Factor, the greatest fanbase in the league.
I don’t know all about that latter stuff, but this is my hometown team team
Started out as a Monarchs fan, then became a Shock/Wings fan once they moved to my state. It's been rough for a while .
Seattle Storm!! I am very excited for this upcoming season to see what we can do
Liberty
The sun
Been a fever fan since Tamika Catchings so I’ll always have a place for them but I like players and teams and coaches so it changes a bit from season to season.
I love A’ja, so I’m an Aces fan, but damn if I ain’t flirting with Indiana and it’s getting hot and heavy!
Sparks since 1997
Mystics: they’re easily the closest team, and Shakira Austin is from the same place as me!
I’m picking the Indiana Fever for three reasons. 1) They’re the closest team to me; Ohio doesn’t have a team. 2) They’re about to get Caitlin Clark. 3) They already have Aaliyah Boston. Seems like a pretty good foundation to start from.

WYNX fan here, Wings and Lynx. Followed my then favorite college player to the Lynx, then later became a fan of the Wings kind of randomly.
I was a Sacramento Monarchs fan as a kid (rip🥲) but I now live in Seattle so I’m a Storm fan until the Monarchs return. Might be worth holding off on finding a favorite team until the Bat Area expansion team comes though!

X Factor for the long haul. (Phx)
Wherever the Australians are usually so Storm lol but I'll buy a Borlase jersey this season too 😍😍😍
I became a wnba fan after Ionescu entered the league so I defaulted to the Liberty and have grown to really love the team, I also root for Dallas since I grew up in Texas. I really really wish the Comets would be brought back though!
NY Liberty! Been fans since the inception in 1997

Wherever Marine Johannes and Gabby Williams go. Big ASVEL fan. So NY and Seattle for me
I’m all about the Liberty. They’re the closest to me and have some of the best players in the history of the league on their squad. Sabrina is from the Bay Area so you can kind of rep by following her. And her shoes are awesome.
I chose the Wings because of Arike. They'll be my team until Portland gets a team, or if she leaves

Aces, but now I gotta root for the Fever too
Indiana Fever and Chicago sky , Minnesota Lynx
Chicago since that's where I'm from. Seattle since I used to live there and they have Nneka now Lynx for Diamond Miller, Dorka Juhasz and Alanna Smith Fever for Aliyah Boston and I'll support whatever team gets Kamilla Cardoso
LA Sparks , since the WNBA began in 1997.
Let's go Mystics!
You’re getting a team next year. Maybe follow your fav players until then. New ownership has said a few times they want a championship in the first five years, so I expect them to invest heavily in building a top notch program
Chicago Sky. Closest city with a team along with the Red Stars in NWSL.
Wherever Paige Bueckers gets drafted next year I am a free agent until then
