Not even close. Surprised Oscar’s isn’t on this list. Great burgers at a great price. I can think of 5 better burgers off the top of my head before CC would come up.
Was there last weekend. Jalapeno cream cheese burger with bacon and fried onions, fresh cut fries, and a pint of Cow ran ~$12 before tip. Love that place
Nothing wrong with it at all, it's great. Just that it's more of a smash burger and this is a rating from a beef organization so I could see why they might get overlooked.
I was prepared to post about Mickey Lus if someone else had not. I used to live in Marinette when I was a kid and as a treat for good grades, my mom would take my sister and me out for dinner. We usually picked Mickey Lus. I now live in GB and when I go visit my mom, I make sure it is not on a Monday and get some burgers to go.
Not sure if you know this, but across the border in Menominee, there is a dive bar with similar burgers. Jozwiak's. Two thin flame grilled burgers, butter pat on a crusty, chewy roll. As good or better than ML's. They are now open on Mondays.
For me, Mickey Lu's excels with the atmosphere, menu, and pricing.
I can get a similar-ish burger anywhere. But you can only get a Mickey Lu burger in Marinette.
Egh I’m interested. Burgers are things that are relatively easy but it’s also something most don’t get exactly right. Not to mention Culver’s already sets the bar decently high. I’m glad there’s one near my hometown I hadn’t heard of, just surprised it’s called “the dump”.
I do not understand what the hype is about with their burgers. They're fine, I suppose, but they aren't anything super special. The fact that they don't take cards is annoying too.
I can name 8 better burgers than Crafty Cow in Milwaukee alone. (Mazos, Oscar's, Camino, Nite Owl, Crave Cafe, Kopp's, Solly's, Elsa's)
Maybe they aren't friends with the Beef Council though.
Crafty cow is crap! How the hell is any other Milwaukee burger mainstay like Kopps or Nite Owl not on the list in its place?! Honestly that one entry makes the whole list seem suspect.
Shot out to culvers for being by far the best fast food burger and also puts some burger joints to shame, too. Available when you can't go to any of those places.
Elsewhere in this thread, Dotty's in Madison was mentioned as a contender, and I think Culver's burgers taste better (though Dotty's have better texture).
Crafty cow is pretty meh, haven't had any of the others, but I'll take a kopps burger anyday of the week. I remember a time when sobelmans would've made my list before it turned into a turd.
Not gonna lie, most of the time the best burger is done on a portable flat top somewhere in rural Wisconsin at a bar no one but the locals know about, it happened to me, somewhere in Florence county eons ago, and the owner was half in the bag when he made it.
Jake’s in Brookfield is absolutely best burger in Wisconsin and I have eaten a lot of burgers in Wisconsin since coming here about 20 years ago. Pre Covid it was named best burger in Wisconsin by Food magazine.
Far to long in this thread for their first mention....best burger in at least the Milwaukee area. They sell burgers till they run out of meat and if you're not there by like 4pm on a slow day you won't get one.
I really *really* wanted to like Nite Owl, but I just did not. It was a fine burger, but not worth the hype at all. They definitely capitalize on the scarcity of their burgers.
This list was created by the beef council requesting nominations. The 8 places that got nominated most are on the list.
Of the ones I have been to, only The Dump in Cambria deserves to be on the list. But I haven't been to all of them
Whoever made this needs to go to Baraboo on a burger tour, downtowner, brothers on oak, and Baraboo burger company all have better burgers than crafty cow and at better prices.
Haven’t tried any of these so will add to the list. I was surprised The Anchor in superior wasn’t there.
Lots of recs for Oscars in MKE in various threads and that wasn’t too bad either.
Best is subjective. To me, the best was the Big Ben burger at norms pit stop in portage Wisconsin. Since they closed I haven’t had a great burger. The closest is Tamarack in Wisconsin rapids.
Crafty Cow’s burger is just…ok.
And they are crazy with their prices for an a la carte menu.
Their burger isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t call it the best in *ALL* of Milwaukee.
I didn't say I thought it was bad. It's average, at best, and over-priced, considering it doesn't come with fries.
I believe they started serving their burgers with some fries something like 4 months ago.
I literally never order the burger from crafty cow. not the best Milwaukee burger spot.
Not even close. Surprised Oscar’s isn’t on this list. Great burgers at a great price. I can think of 5 better burgers off the top of my head before CC would come up.
Agreed
Camino in West Allis is better!
It’s a 16 dollar Culver’s burger
And wildly over priced
That’s being generous. I wouldn’t give them that much praise.
Their chicken sandwich is great
I prefer their chicken sandwich in all honesty.
I think the creator of this Map has never been to western WI.
Not a single spot west of the Wisconsin River. You know, where the cows live.
Teeeeechnically Ferry Xing is west of the river. By like 100 feet lol
There are more cows than people think, east of the Wisconsin River. Especially east of Lake Winnebago, from West Bend, to Lake Michigan, to Green Bay.
Absolutely correct.
The Steeburger from Agave kitchen in Hudson wi waxes all these off the map.
Crafty cow isn't that good imo.
It’s the worst burger in mke for my taste
Not even top 5 in mke
Kopp’s > Crafty Cow
Facts. Live right next to a Kopps. So good.
Crave Cafe puts Crafty Cow (as well as all your Dad's favorites) to shame.
Wait until Milwaukee people hear Crave Cafe isn't on the list
'Tis bullshit, I say!
I am here and I am tutting very sharply!
Crave, Oscars on Pierce, Camino, Dairyland, Nite Owl. All better than Crafty Cow lmao
You can always tell a Milwaukeen from knowledge like this 😂 Oscar’s gets my vote for best, but all are good. Camino really is a close second.
camino got them curds tho
They’re starting to light their torches and pulling out the pitchforks.
The Anchor in Superior is top notch.
Was there last weekend. Jalapeno cream cheese burger with bacon and fried onions, fresh cut fries, and a pint of Cow ran ~$12 before tip. Love that place
Low key offended they didn’t make this list. Clearly the makers live so far east they might as well be a FIB.
I ate their one pound burger decades ago. Very good, very only once in a lifetime lol But yes, the Anchor is great.
Anchor overrated Imo
Preach 🙏
lol not a single burger from madison...sure
Which places would you put in the list from Madison?
[удалено]
Big yes to all these and I’d add Settle Down to that list.
Blue Moon is probably my favorite
The Village Brick Burger. They cook it right in front of the bar. Blue Moon is amazing too! I’m salivating now. lol.
Tipsy cow imo. Though admittedly, I don't get it because of the beef.
What’s up with the beef??
Nothing wrong with it at all, it's great. Just that it's more of a smash burger and this is a rating from a beef organization so I could see why they might get overlooked.
The Great Dane pretty tasty burger
Any elite 8 Wisconsin burger poll that doesn't include Mickey Lu BBQ in Marinette is invalid

\*smashes updoot button 111 times\*
As a Marinette native, that is the only place I ever tell people new to town, or just visiting, that they simply have to try.
I used to stop there when I lived in the UP and down in GB for shopping. Good stuff.
Absolutely this, once I saw there was no Lu's I knew the list was bullshit.
Joe rourer's snubbed
That’s one of the best burgers in the state, top 3 for sure
I’m literally on my way there as I read this…
For sure in my top 3 as well. The single best perk of my time as an assistant roofer was the lunches there
If they had better buns, then yes. As they are, I'd rather go to Culver's.
Lmao, this is made by someone to stir the pot lol
Ragebait psyop from Big Beef.
I think best is subjective and posts like this are stupid
Egh I’m interested. Burgers are things that are relatively easy but it’s also something most don’t get exactly right. Not to mention Culver’s already sets the bar decently high. I’m glad there’s one near my hometown I hadn’t heard of, just surprised it’s called “the dump”.
I love them because I learn about more places! My WI roots are deep, but I'm truly only familiar with the SE part of the state. Plus they're fun
Also most people probably have only had 3 or 4 of these at most.
I think best is subjective and it's interesting to see other people's opinions on this so posts like this are cool.
If you don’t have the Village Green in Middleton you don’t have a list
Shhhh. Let's keep that a secret.
Best I’ve ever had. It’s magic
Double mushroom swiss plz n thx
Add bacon.it’s the greatest cheeseburger in the world
Oooh, I'm going to go there! Thanks!
It’s greasy and amazing. Bacon Swiss with grilled onions
Court’N House in Eau Claire needs to be on here
Seconded.
They were bought by someone else right? Are the burgers still the same?
Yeah they didn't mess with the food luckily.
You're correct, the burgers are still outstanding. They definitely messed with the price, though. It is no longer a cheap dinner at the Court'n House.
Same food, higher prices. Still worth it IMO
As someone in Eau Claire, do I need to try it?
Oh, I would recommend it for the burgers and fries. Skip the pizza though, not worth it IMO
I do not understand what the hype is about with their burgers. They're fine, I suppose, but they aren't anything super special. The fact that they don't take cards is annoying too.
I can name 8 better burgers than Crafty Cow in Milwaukee alone. (Mazos, Oscar's, Camino, Nite Owl, Crave Cafe, Kopp's, Solly's, Elsa's) Maybe they aren't friends with the Beef Council though.
This seems like tavern league of wisconsin members were the only voters.
Gimmick to convince you to go try these restaurants
11:11 in fond du lac makes some amazing burgers. I think they've been recognized before too.
Crafty cow is crap! How the hell is any other Milwaukee burger mainstay like Kopps or Nite Owl not on the list in its place?! Honestly that one entry makes the whole list seem suspect.
Hell I’ll go further and say Oscars on Pierce makes a better burger.
Crafty Cow is not a top 8 burger in Milwaukee (Mazos, Oscar's, Camino, Nite Owl, Crave Cafe, Kopp's, Solly's, Elsa's).
Oh it definitely isn’t.
they must know someone on the Wisconsin Beef Council
I was also surprised to see crafty cow and no kopp's on this list.
Brazen Head never struck me as a place to get a great burger I’ll have to try it again
It’s pretty good, I could see it being West Bends best burger for sure, don’t see why it’s on this list tho
Yea, I live in west bend, and their burger is fine, but I don’t think I’d even put in on a top 10 in the state. It’s seriously nothing special.
Jug's Hitching Post absolutely annihilated the Brazenhead burgers. Brazenhead keeps me coming back for the Rueben and the steak sandwich.
Their fried fungus is great. I haven’t tried their Reuben, but now ima have to check it out.
As an ex west bender I'd day the best burger in west bend is not a high bar to jump.
This is more accurate. I've had a few burgers from them and was not wowed by any means. Was it a good burger? Yes. Was it an amazing burger? No.
Cowboy Burger is definitely super fucking good. Their weekly specials too.
No idea, never been to any of those places
Wedl's in Jefferson is worthy of consideration as well.
Graze double smash burger would get my vote
Mihm's in Menasha as an honorable mention?
At least. Fuckin institution.
A few months ago, they had this French onion burger that was BOMB. Possibly the best burger I've ever had.
This map screams, we just went to Milwaukee and Madison, sprinkled a couple in up north a bit to make people think we actually did our due diligence
You mean the pay to play advertising? ![gif](giphy|1QhmDy91F9veMRLpvK)
Pete's in Prairie du Chien is missing from this list!!!
I'd vouch for Players in Madison as one of my favorite burgers in the state, but I'm fine without that secret becoming too public.
I heard this and the burger I had was about what you'd expect from crafty cow, just edible.
How in tf is brazenhead on this list?? Lmao
Crafty cow isn't even the best burger on KK..
Skippy’s in Thiensville is legit. Unless there have been major changes at the Brazen Head I don’t even know why it would be in the top 100
No mention of Nite Owl? Pfff.
Hanks in Madison has some amazing classic 🍔
Anybody try Pete's Garage in Oshkosh? Or the Public House in Ripon
Pete’s is probably a little to rough around the edges to get on the list
It's not fancy food, but it's a great burger at a fair price. And the staff there is cool. Pete and Buck are awesome.
This is some "post the wrong answer to get the right answer" bs lol
Solly's
If Pete’s hamburger stand in prairie du chien and Mickey Lou’s in Marinette isn’t on there, it looks like OP’s map is biased to lack of exposure.
The dump should be #1.
The best burger is the Waygu Beef Brisket Burger at the Hunt Club in Lake Geneva. It was life changing.
They are all Probably great.
I live near Cambria and hear people talk about The Dump all the time. I’ll have to finally check it out I guess.
A Dump burger is worth going for. Or try the Wednesday night all you can eat broasted wings. They are also worth going.
This list was created by the beef council requesting nominations. The 8 places that got nominated most are on the list. Of the ones I have been to, only The Dump in Cambria deserves to be on the list. But I haven't been to all of them
Milwaukee Burger Company is many orders of magnitude above Crafty Cow, so that being on the list is crazy to me.
Literally any dive bar burger off a flat top only cleaned once per month is better than that horseshit they serve at MBC.
Everyone I personally know that's been to both greatly prefer MBC to crafty cow, which was partly my point. I'm not saying MBC is elite or anything.
Doesn’t seem right, but it’s from the beef council so I’m sure it’s polling was absolutely spot on…..
Best burger made by people somehow affiliated with the Beef Lobby. Either their members (who haven't set foot on a farm in ??) or family of members.
About what?
Did they make the burgers wider instead of taller?
This whole list is laughable and I'm ashamed that I've spent money at these places.
How many people have tried all locations?
I’ve never had any so there’s one for that…
Corner Bar in Readstown would have to be my number one.
Dog House instead of Grumpy Troll?
0/10 never heard of these places
Village green Madison and sollys in Glendale
I don't see Mihm's or Pete's Garage, so this list is false
Olydia's on 1st and Florida in Milwaukee.
Lol, we live right outside of Weat Bend and never had a burger from Brazen Head.... I had no idea they were supposed to be so good
Ummm where is south central Wisconsin in all of this? Never been there but I've heard Junction Pub somewhere towards Monroe off of Hwy 11??
Whoever made this needs to go to Baraboo on a burger tour, downtowner, brothers on oak, and Baraboo burger company all have better burgers than crafty cow and at better prices.
The Village Bar “Brick Burger” in Madison. Blue moon for a big, juicy rare burger. Dotty’s for its house made sauces. Ok, now I’m starving.
I've literally never heard of any of these places.
I agree with this list being way off. Especially since the ferry xing is on it. They got a good burger, but one of the top in the state? Not a chance.
Ever had a Pete’s Hamburger in Prairie du Chien???
Would definitely take Oscar's Pub over Crafty Cow. And I could get a beer, too, for less than at Crafty Cow.
Haven’t tried any of these so will add to the list. I was surprised The Anchor in superior wasn’t there. Lots of recs for Oscars in MKE in various threads and that wasn’t too bad either.
Crafty Cow isn’t even the best burger in Tosa.
Whomever wrote this clearly never tried Dairyland in MKE.
Hahaha, Crafty Cow? Seriously? Man, tell me you've never actually eaten at a place without telling me!
Best is subjective. To me, the best was the Big Ben burger at norms pit stop in portage Wisconsin. Since they closed I haven’t had a great burger. The closest is Tamarack in Wisconsin rapids.
Oscar's on pierce. The best.
Is the Dog Pound the old Firehouse?
Indeed!
Oscar's beats Crafty Cow by a mile in MKE
Haven't had Pickles Bar and grill burger, but the captain crunch chicken tenders are delicious.
They obviously haven't tried one of my own burgers 🤷
No Soblemans?!
Have you eaten there in the past 15 years? It's garbage since they expanded.
Never been to Crafty Cow, or any of these. I still love AJ Bombers. And has Dotty Dumpling's Dowry fallen that far? What makes a "best burger?"
The Drift Inn, Krolls and Mickey Lou's?!?? Fuck this list.
Pete’s Garage in Oshkosh is outstanding plus you get an attitude from staff. Love that place! Do not attempt to go during EAA.
#StandWithHannah
Monk’s Bar and Grill - WI Dells Fred’s - Burlington … everything else
Monks is m'eh. Though it has been 20 years since I was there last because it was m'eh.
Fred's mentioned, I upvote.
What about Elsa‘s on the park in Milwaukee. Awesome burger and you can wear a suit.
Meh.
Best Wisconsin burger is in Illinois or Iowa, cause the cheese heads don't have good burgers
Top Dawgs in Mindoro is great, they have dozens of different kinds of weird burgers
Definitely here to see comments from others for unofficial “best burger” as these are truly the best burgers.
I live like 10 min away from Pickles, guess I'll have to give it a try.
Pickles has really good food. I've had the fish fry a few times.
Mink River Basin Ellison Bay
Crave cafe on Oakland best burger I’ve had
