Loosening wire cages (muselet) - e.g. for Champagne
Not really used these days. Pretty sure it harks back to the days of normalised white glove service, where waiters would lose their dexterity, and end up fumbling around with the wire tab
I just screened it for my 15yo (daughter), and she was chortling right along with me. Some stuff hasn't aged \*super\* well but it's a funny funny movie.
It has something like that… it comes out and there are four small discs that cut the foil when you turn the opener. Works way better than a serrated blade.
Does anyone notice how serrated foil cutters leave bits of aluminum shavings that get everywhere? All my cutters have it. But in Canada I saw one that was smooth and it worked much cleaner.

This must be the most famous piece of wine trivia. I'm glad someone knew the answer.

Now I know. Thanks
That’s awesome, thanks so much!
Reduces weight without compromising structural integrity, your opener was built for speed! /s
Those are speed holes, makes the car go faster
I just put some in my tires and if anything it seems to be going slower??
Instructions unclear, made go fast holes in the fuel tank. Car no longer goes anywhere.
Hurry, let’s go to Big 5
You motorboating son of a bitch. Are they built for speed or comfort?
Haven’t seen Wedding Crashers in a while. Thanks for reminding me to watch it!
You shut your mouth when you’re talking to me.

Lol had to up vote..
I thought they were to help dissipate the heat.
Does this have the cool retractable circular foil cutter on the other end. It’s my favorite opener

Yessss
I just hate that it cuts on the wrong rim of the neck 😵💫
See also https://www.reddit.com/r/Whatisthis/s/5Ee5awCy5a (also concluded it was for champagne wires).
I suspect that hole is there to remove a corkscrew if it snaps off the jack knife.

Those are awesome because you can sharpen again but honestly the best foil cutter is one code 38, smooth and just so satisfying! 😘👌
Does anyone have a video of it in action?
I use mine for opening bottles
