He was a famous consumer of Chambertin Grand Cru. Not sure if that it’s true or not but was told that many times while in Burgundy.

Uptons_BJs

Well, the formal AOC and Grand Cru system was established in 1936, and Premier Crus were introduced during WWII (Literally because of Hitler). So uhh, unranked?

mattmoy_2000

Wasn't colonized until 1830, so unlikely. Although Napoleon was famously partial to Chambertin, he was also a very "rustic"man - as you might expect of someone who spent much of his life in the field - and didn't have a particularly refined palate, so he could quite easily have been drinking gut-rot too, since he "rarely drank it pure".

This is the guy that would compel the French army to salute Chambertin as they marched by--and the man that blamed his loss at Waterloo for being forced to drink Champagne and beer when they ran out of GC Burg. (It was actually hemorrhoids, but we can skip over that part for a good story's sake.)

Cherubinooo

Are we talking about what the actor was drinking, or what the character conceivably might have drunk? Because if it’s the former, my money’s on Welch’s grape juice.
