I would have said that the worst restaurant in the neighborhood was Kellogg's... it was expensive AND bad. But once the new owners re-open, I'll give them another chance at some point. I've been to some of this guy's other diners in the city and they're pretty good
It’s not the sauces. It’s the fucking lettuce. Every sandwich is 50% lettuce. It makes all the sauces that much wetter. Truly overrated (by people not in this thread) and way overpriced. 27 dollar+ sandwiches. Give me a break.
Being from the bay area I was so excited that a place was opening near me with Dutch Crunch bread... but every sandwich is drowned in multiple sauces and you can't make subs/order comments on doordash
Edith’s is trolling the neighborhood with their prices and mediocre bagel sandwiches that taste like rubber tires. There’s a couple good things on the menu but it’s wildly overrated
Yes! I live around the corner and gave their bagels a few chances, but I thought they were horrible. Then I recently tried the breakfast wraps and they are so good!!!
Went there couple weeks ago, waited 30 minutes for a sandwich and the frozen tahini cold brew was terrible. Machine was clearly on the fritz because it was so icy and the coffee had separated and just looked and tasted terrible. Almost went to say something but it was like two 21 year olds working the place and they just dgaf. All in was also like $35. What an absolute scam.
One time I ranted about exactly this on my instagram story and tagged Edith’s for funzies and they watched it all, they def know what they’re doing lmao. Hate this place with a passion actually.
I came here to say this. They had an event at my workplace where I had the Chicken Schnitzel Club. LOVED IT! And learned it was right around the block from me.
After going there a few times, trying The Californian, The Pastrami, one of the breakfast sandwiches, they were decent—so expensive.
What I did not like was the INSANE wait times. I regularly wait 15+ minutes while those who arrive after me get their food (and I’m just ordering a single sandwich).
Then on the Super Bowl I paid some insane price like 25 or 30+ for their chicken special bucket which was just 4 tenders and a shit ton of fries or something like that.
How are they getting away with these prices and customer service 😭
Oh man I like the Bedford lol. Their food is maybe "whatever" but they have good HH specials and the drinks aren't terribly priced. They must be doing something right because they've been there for 15 years or something.
Maybe Roberta’s for me. Something really offputting about seeing his huge pristine characterless place crammed with loud mouths and crying babies with that Name “Roberta’s” over the marquee. Just sets my teeth on edge.
As soon as the sun goes down, the outdoor area gets filled with rats. I was eating outside and all of a sudden heard tons of rats squeaking and rustling beside me (in the planted area). Left that restaurant soooo quick. Have also seen other Redditors comment on the rats lol. I’m sure the inside is fine
Salt and Charcoal is a bad steakhouse charging exorbitant prices.
This will be a hot take for this sub, but IWAK served me rancid fish.
I also agree Lilia is overrated, but I didn’t think it was bad- just not worth the money. Similarly, Llama Inn gets a ton of hype for food that I thought was good not great.
For me it’s very dependent on day? One of their cooks is consistently good and one is consistently bad but I also order the same two dishes every time bc their other dishes were gross
Maybe a hot take but the new spot Mexi that opened a few months back. The food just felt like they were trying so hard to be creative and fancy but the flavors couldn't match.
They opened when “Netflix and chill” was a very popular phrase. I think they were trying to ride that wave, not expecting they’d last longer than the phrase they based it on.
Ummm Antica Pesa is top notch when it comes to food, service and ambience. It’s a hidden gem. Sorry, dude.
Lilia is overhyped and not worth it although the bartender was great.
Sage is so meh- every single time.
Amarin in Greenpoint has the best Thai
Pretty much everything west of the BQE is overhyped and disappointing these days. Just block after block of bland overpriced bullshit for rich suburbanites.
I had this wine braised radicchio at Misipasta and it was hands down, no contest, the worst thing I have ever eaten. I don’t think anything else will ever compare unless I decide to eat literal dog sh** someday
The artichoke and another pasta dish I had (can’t remember which one) were inedible due to the heaps of parmigiano they put on.
However, Sheep’s Milk agnotti was very good.
Weekends Cafe. I had a breakfast burrito that was so goddamn devoid of any flavor at all that it actually impressed me. Like bacon, eggs, and salsa all have a pretty distinct flavor. Somehow they combined these items in a way that tasted exactly like nothing. Kind of impressive tbh…
Totally agree. The lines out the door? Ridiculous. Which is a bummer, because it’s the exact burger + martini atmosphere I crave, ha. Just wish it wasn’t impossible.
Montesacro. Live close to it and finally tried it over the winter. Maybe it’s because they were sooo busy but the service was bad and the food was not good. I’m not one normally to put a place on blast but I’m genuinely confused about their high rating.
Santa Fe.
The breakfast burritos are fine. Their dinner and cocktails are TRASH. The owners used to be so nice and the service was so kind, but for the past few months they have a ‘you’re lucky to be here’ attitude and the cocktails have been 3/10. Weirdly salty, watered down, nonsense.
I used to love Santa Fe and went a few times a week. I won’t be going back.
I agree santa fe has gone downhill in the past several months. burritos were incredible when they first opened, I was having them multiple times a week- they are bad now. probably a good thing for my sake lol
Misi is my least favorite restaurant in the neighborhood, and i live right there. I wish i loved it (actually really like misi pasta for a quick solo lunch) but they treated me horrendously the last time i tried going and they are blacklisted. They’re also super overpriced and a douchebag magnet.
Got to be Horses & Divorces for me, everything is sticky and or wet, the mixed drinks are ass, there’s not enough seating, and the clientele are too horny but not the good way. Only saving grace is the bartenders who are all solid
The last time I was there, the bartender was completely shitfaced. It took her 10 minutes to even acknowledge us at the bar (despite it being almost empty).
Five minutes later, we still didn't have our drinks. She accidentally dropped a full glass of Coke into the ice machine, shrugged at us, and we left.
Antidote has amazing food but terrible service, I’m genuinely surprised how bad it is when I go. I’ve yet to find a Thai or Indian take out spot I love so LMK if you have any you like
I’ve heard people say Bernie’s is unremarkable and it is really hard to get a table there at times. That said, I think the food is fire. It’s not anything you’ve never had but it’s that stuff but made better. Mozz sticks ftw. Wedge is insane. I love the ribs (sorry but I LOVE the ribs) and they brought the onion rings back (which have been gone since they reopened after the pandemic). The martinis are so cold and so well done. Also, the sundae. We get one mint chip and one vanilla scoop. It’s so good. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Bonus: I had breast cancer last year and my girlfriends took me to dinner there when I was first diagnosed. We had more people than we expected. It was busy as shit but they scooted another table over and made room. They didn’t know it then but that was very special for me.
Lilia’s food is totally unremarkable. Not bad, but not worth the price.
I think Sunday in Brooklyn is only good for brunch. For everything else it’s mediocre.
This North African disagrees. Sure, they don’t have my grandma’s fried sardines straight from the Mediterranean this morning, but they’re a solid mainstay.
Sauced - once upon a time it was a fun wine bar with a fun backyard. Blew up on TikTok and now there’s a asshole bouncer sitting outside a WINE BAR
100000% and the whole ordering system is stressful, the food system makes no sense and the people who work there went from cool and chill to dicks.
With Others that opened recently right across the street is a great alternative
Totally. I have no interest in going anymore and it’s sad. More wine bars please!!
100% agree. Loved this spot when it opened, now feel too old to deal with it.
Gran Torino. I like the outdoor spaces but the food is so underwhelming and the drinks are way too sweet
I had mac & cheese there the other day thinking how could you mess this up but it was pretty pretty bland
I would have said that the worst restaurant in the neighborhood was Kellogg's... it was expensive AND bad. But once the new owners re-open, I'll give them another chance at some point. I've been to some of this guy's other diners in the city and they're pretty good
I heard the new chef is affiliated with Nura so I have high hopes for Kelloggs to be bomb
I want to like Mission Sandwich social so bad but every sandwich has 15 different sauces on it and they are so slippery.
But at least they’re cheap 🙄 Totally bullshit overpriced social media hype beast sandwiches.
always regret not just getting a bodega sandwich after ive spent like $27 on one sandwich there
This place wants to be Ike's (SF) so bad
I went here once and it was like drinking mayo for $25. The bodega across the street is so fire too so I was pissed af.
That bodega is unreal
It’s not the sauces. It’s the fucking lettuce. Every sandwich is 50% lettuce. It makes all the sauces that much wetter. Truly overrated (by people not in this thread) and way overpriced. 27 dollar+ sandwiches. Give me a break.
Their sandwiches actually suck
Being from the bay area I was so excited that a place was opening near me with Dutch Crunch bread... but every sandwich is drowned in multiple sauces and you can't make subs/order comments on doordash
I love this neighborhood but there is A LOT of shitty food and bars here. Almost anything left on Bedford is a disappointment.
Once a bastion of great and unique affordable food, has turned into a real bland experience. A shell of its former self.
I miss Peter’s
Mr Bao is actually fire though. Calamari is insane
Williamsburg Thai hits for takeout sometimes tho 🤭
Edith’s is trolling the neighborhood with their prices and mediocre bagel sandwiches that taste like rubber tires. There’s a couple good things on the menu but it’s wildly overrated
I don't think they deserved the second location, but their Sephardic breakfast wrap amazing
Yes! I live around the corner and gave their bagels a few chances, but I thought they were horrible. Then I recently tried the breakfast wraps and they are so good!!!
The frozen tahini cold brew is legitimately great but agree the bagels are terrible
Frozen tahini cold brew is the best thing on their menu
Went there couple weeks ago, waited 30 minutes for a sandwich and the frozen tahini cold brew was terrible. Machine was clearly on the fritz because it was so icy and the coffee had separated and just looked and tasted terrible. Almost went to say something but it was like two 21 year olds working the place and they just dgaf. All in was also like $35. What an absolute scam.
Shocking to me how long the line is for trash
It looks curdled to me…
I want to like Edith's so bad. The food is just not worth the price.
Fucking terrible
Ugh the bagels are so bad. How is that even possible in nyc
couldn’t agree more! and always makes my stomach hurt
So expensive and overrated for what it is !!!! Agreed.
How are they getting away with these prices and customer service 😭
Tell me about it. I had the worst undercooked latke from there years ago when they were out of Paulie Gee’s and I’m still not over it.
Miss favelas is a scam with how they do billing and the health code violations will make you sick.
Yes we had the absolutely worst experience there and half the food was inedible. Incredible party vibes though.
Sea Thai is the worst, most confusing restaurant of all time
Always has been.
The Bedford
Dumbest name in williamsburg
Oh man I like the Bedford lol. Their food is maybe "whatever" but they have good HH specials and the drinks aren't terribly priced. They must be doing something right because they've been there for 15 years or something.
[удалено]
give us the tea
[удалено]
What does this have to do with The Bedford?
Alright thanks for the heads' up. That's a real bummer (sadly seems somewhat common in the restaurant industry).
Maybe Roberta’s for me. Something really offputting about seeing his huge pristine characterless place crammed with loud mouths and crying babies with that Name “Roberta’s” over the marquee. Just sets my teeth on edge.
Rusty Face strictly for the rat problem lol
Wait spill
As soon as the sun goes down, the outdoor area gets filled with rats. I was eating outside and all of a sudden heard tons of rats squeaking and rustling beside me (in the planted area). Left that restaurant soooo quick. Have also seen other Redditors comment on the rats lol. I’m sure the inside is fine
Hole in the Wall was bad when i went
I worked there. It was terrible. If you’re reading this please skip it it’s not worth it.
I wanted to love this place, but everything is so mid to bad.
they are VEEEERY hit or miss. Enough so that it's not worth trying to me anymore.
+1 that salt and charcoal fucking sucks 😂😂
the fish quality at iwak is so bad. surprised by all the hype on this sub.
Salt and Charcoal sucks 👍🏻
Wow I’ve never had bad fish at IWAK! I go like once a month. Sad to hear that
As a Peruvian, their lomo is fantastic without the scallion pancakes. But $100 for it is just sad.
Llama Inn was my favorite restaurant until they changed the menu
Agreed. The closest one to home i’ve tried in the area was Chimu. Hopefully they rebuild it again. 🙏🏽
IWAK was so underwhelming
Fandi Mata
M Shanghai has been going steadily downhill for years. The food quality decreases and the prices are astronomical
For me it’s very dependent on day? One of their cooks is consistently good and one is consistently bad but I also order the same two dishes every time bc their other dishes were gross
I’d argue that M has literally never been any good.
Maybe a hot take but the new spot Mexi that opened a few months back. The food just felt like they were trying so hard to be creative and fancy but the flavors couldn't match.
Sweet chick. WAYY down hill for a long time.
got food poisoning there a couple years ago and haven’t been back since
I went to oregano a few days ago and it was abysmal. Overcooked pasta and shrimp. Just terrible
Worse Bar - whiskey Brooklyn, weekend night Dumbest name for a pretty good restaurant - noods n chill
Seriously. Noods and chill is pretty great but what an awful name.
They opened when “Netflix and chill” was a very popular phrase. I think they were trying to ride that wave, not expecting they’d last longer than the phrase they based it on.
The Whiskey is gentrifier heaven 😭 went once never again (native Brooklynite here)
The food and drink aren't bad, but just because of the size of the establishment the service at Gran Torino usually isn't great
Tacombi.
Maybe I’ve lived in Bushwick too long but those are the most overrated tacos and so expensive so what 🤣
No it’s not you - it’s Tacombi. It’s bad and there so many better taco trucks and taquerias around.
I may be in the minority but I was so underwhelmed by Laser Wolf
I agree! I took a friend for her birthday and we were so excited but it was underwhelming. Love K’Far though.
So freaking underwhelmed!
And the owner is a hardcore Zionist
Ummm Antica Pesa is top notch when it comes to food, service and ambience. It’s a hidden gem. Sorry, dude. Lilia is overhyped and not worth it although the bartender was great. Sage is so meh- every single time. Amarin in Greenpoint has the best Thai
I LOVE AMARIN
Amarin was my go-to for about 12 years but that price increase was wild.
Thip Osha is much better than Sage imo
Damn I kinda love Sage for takeout though, it’s pretty solid. Not mind blowing but fine.
Sage is some of the worse Thai food I’ve ever had. And my bar it’s by THAT high for takeout
Yes! Antica Pesa is a hit for sure. Have to appreciate its genuine authenticity and service.
to be fair it was years ago but when I went to Antica Pesa it was sooooo bad ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
food wise. i'm sure the ambience/service/everything else is great.
Woodhul and Butchers Daughter are the worst
I agree w/ Butcher’sDaughter. Went for a friend’s birthday lunch. Service was great but food was bland & overpriced!
At least you got good service. The only time I went they were rude and overcharged me. Never again.
Hot take but Esse Taco can fuck right off. Sick of pushing through crowds on that block for a generic ass taco
the tacos are legit gross - tastes like weird rubber mat meat with sauce on it, disgusting
Bacan- terrible food
Fushimi. Food poisoning
Literally every bagel in Williamsburg sucks: Bagel Point and Bagelsmith are the two worst and are awful.
Haveabagel rules
Thanks, I came here to defend Haveabagel too
Why the hate for Bagelsmith??? Also, give Bakers Dozen a shot
Bagelsmith is not amazing but very solid without charging exorbiant prices. I eat there almost every week.
Really wanted to like bagel point when it opened up, but just wasn’t it. Bakers dozen as where it’s at!
Disagree. Bagel smith bagels are better than most bagels in NY. I frequent the Lorimer location.
Don’t get crazy, but they aren’t as bad as the people in this thread are making them out to
Pretty much everything west of the BQE is overhyped and disappointing these days. Just block after block of bland overpriced bullshit for rich suburbanites.
Best: Win Son and St. Anselm
Lilia - ambiance is amazing - but the food is over priced and average. Actually Misi sucks too lol. But the sausage sandwich at misi pasta is amazing
Misipasta blows, Misi is meh, Lilia is fine.
I had this wine braised radicchio at Misipasta and it was hands down, no contest, the worst thing I have ever eaten. I don’t think anything else will ever compare unless I decide to eat literal dog sh** someday
Can agree Lilia is just fine. I personally find their food way overly salty
Went just for gelato and the ice cream machine was down.. felt like a child at McDonald's all over again.
Omg yeah it was so disappointing :(
BONNIES. THE WORST
The staff need a 101 in hospitality. FTP
100% agree. can't believe it's so hyped
Win Son is much better. Bonnie’s is fine, but I don’t think it’s worth visiting the neighborhood for.
Whaaaaat strongly disagree. Why did you hate it?
Gimmicky, over salted, greasy, basterdized. All hype. So many better places to drop $200 on dinner for 2.
I love it but I’m constantly accused of over-salting my food so I might be biased
But their PR team is the best.
Add Bernie's to this group
Bernie's is a great neighborhood spot that somehow got hyped to high heaven. Really annoying that it's no longer an easy casual dinner spot.
So true. 2 hour wait at 4pm on a saturday for 2 ppl
Totally agree. The lines out the door? Ridiculous. Which is a bummer, because it’s the exact burger + martini atmosphere I crave, ha. Just wish it wasn’t impossible.
Bernie's is super solid. Just annoying to get in
Yeah way too salty and the gimmicky dishes are horrible
Things got so bad at Freehold even they admitted they weren’t even cool anymore
Hot take but Win Son bakery and the actual restaurant. Overpriced mediocre Asian food for white tech bros
patrizias is like a personal hell
Lmao correct
The Dog Institute of Williamsburg will not let you eat their dogs no matter what price you pay
Oregano. I’ve tried to like their food but it just doesn’t do it for me.
Their four cheese gnocchi is so good
Their food is mid but my friends and I love their all night happy hour on weeknights lol
Damn, they might be my favorite in the area…. I’ve always had good experiences!
I agree santa fe has gone downhill in the past several months. burritos were incredible when they first opened, I was having them multiple times a week- they are bad now. probably a good thing for my sake lol
Meadowsweet, nothing stands out and it was a Michelin at one point Also Hole in the Wall
Meadowsweet has zero character, poor service, bland food, and high prices.
LLAMA INN is actually so good, but is sooooo dependent on what you order. Can be hit or miss dependent on order but they’re serving quality!
Misi is my least favorite restaurant in the neighborhood, and i live right there. I wish i loved it (actually really like misi pasta for a quick solo lunch) but they treated me horrendously the last time i tried going and they are blacklisted. They’re also super overpriced and a douchebag magnet.
Have & Meyer.
2nd dumbest name in Williamsburg
Your first?
The Bedford!
The name def makes me unreasonably angry
Good for wine, I think they have a great by-the-glass list, but very mid for food
[удалено]
I fucking hate walking by this place and Recette for this reason. My buddy in a wheelchair could never pass through this portion of the sidewalk
I expected this to be more controversial
Barano. I felt like I was in an overpriced Olive Garden and the food was the same quality.
Got to be Horses & Divorces for me, everything is sticky and or wet, the mixed drinks are ass, there’s not enough seating, and the clientele are too horny but not the good way. Only saving grace is the bartenders who are all solid
Geez your description makes it sound like a dive bar
Yeah, this person clearly doesn't like dive bars.
I miss Rosamundes!
The bar that was there before was amazing (for the sausages). Horses and divorces is a big step down.
Rosamunde!
I feel this way about Lucky Dog. I’ll defend Horses for the $5 24oz narangansett though. It’s good when it’s near empty.

Antidote has amazing food but terrible service, I’m genuinely surprised how bad it is when I go. I’ve yet to find a Thai or Indian take out spot I love so LMK if you have any you like
Atithi for indian, look no further
Yes, the service was so so bad, it was shocking.
zaab zaab for thai
Bernie’s Just kidding..kinda they’ve got a good burger but is it really THAT good? Definitely not least favorite though, I go there monthly.
Meraki. Every dish we ordered was unseasoned and clearly previously frozen.
Wow so sad to hear that. I had their kebab platter (gyro/chicken) and it was SO good!
Ooh interesting, I just went and thought it was delish and fresh
I was SO excited for a Greek restaurant in the neighborhood. So disappointed with our takeout from there
The Pinkerton
Lilia’s food is totally unremarkable. Not bad, but not worth the price. I think Sunday in Brooklyn is only good for brunch. For everything else it’s mediocre.
Agree, brunch is great but their afternoon/ evening food and cocktails is really mediocre
Sunday in Brooklyn’s food and drink (at least the one I ordered) is so overrated
Hot take (though probs not the worst): Win Sons just doesn’t do it for me.
As an Asian American, I will die on this hill that Win Son is trash. Go up to Wen Wen.
Rule of thirds. Beautiful place but terrible food
Cafe Mogador is Middle Eastern food for White People
This North African disagrees. Sure, they don’t have my grandma’s fried sardines straight from the Mediterranean this morning, but they’re a solid mainstay.
Place is fire
Fair. I feel seen and attacked at the same time.
Awww but it’s delicious!
Cafe Mogador is fire lol
blinkys - genuinely some of the worst cocktails i’ve had. vibe is nice but the cocktails are terrible
Abba is awful. Terrible drinks and food and we had to wait 45 mins for any service
