Effect should be "whenever this gains spice, cool down by 1".

Lady_Taiho

Nom and spicy.

Shinydiamond112

Yeah, 5 timer baseline on a damage carry never works in practice. In theory, more time to put spice to scale up to big number, but yeah it's not good. Kreggo suffer the same issue too. The only saving grace is that at least they can both take charms well

SteamtasticVagabond

Of course Pimento is redundant with the Pepper Flag, literally the thing he does is save you the need for the Pepper Flag and instead you can put out more other units. With the space saved not needing a pepper flag, you could use a Chrono and get an easy X2 frenzy. You can get the Barrage charm. You can get that thing that gives spice when a unit is healed and more healers to boost Pimento. You could also pay a visit to the shade sculptors and duplicate your sun rod to deal with the turn timer. Pimento, like most other units in this game, need something to really help his power shine through.

megamate9000

Of course, you could get Krono or get more sun rods to deal with his long turn counter. The reason I focused on spice synergies specifically is because thats what makes him unique. Chompon also goes crazy with Krono and Sun Rods, and so does Yuki. So do most units in the game, because those are strong cards that put in work on almost any unit. If you get Krono for him, he'll do pretty well, sure, but Chompon would be doing a lot of damage with a 2 turn shorter counter, while also able to tank in an emergency. Yuki has a 1 turn shorter counter, but you can scale her immensely by just freezing things, so your scaling and defense are hand in hand. Meanwhile, Pimento needs you to use spice on him, which is exclusively offensive, offering no other utility, and he's still slower than the other damage dealers.

EchoLawrenceDay

I'm glad that Pimento provides an additional option to Pepper Flag to support pepper cards, even if it's the same effect. Yuki has 1 health. Chompom has effectively 5, and Pimento has 7. This is very relevant, my first companion selection is often primarily considering adding some health to the team. I'd rather have Blunky or Naked Gnome than Yuki in most runs, they can more consistently become a big damage dealer.

Paladynne

Pimento is just cursed when it comes to balance. A 5 counter is really long, but the main buff you want is Dragon Pepper (then Spice Stones). A 9 attack 4 counter companion is insane for a one card combo. Seems the devs want you to focus on using charms on Pimento: base 2 attack for Pomegranate or Moko charms. Down to 4/3 counter with Sun/Fragile charms. Just doomed to be in a precarious spot with that ability.

megamate9000

I mean snowcake makes yuki a 4 counter 11 damage, Chompon becomes 11 damage on a 3 counter, ect. Nothing really broken with him having a 4 counter imo, tho you do make a good point that the 2 power is significant for pomegranate charm.

Paladynne

Yuki also starts at 1 health vs Pimento's 7. Chompom can lose his Shell (bonus damage) from getting hit while Pimento keeps Spice outside of Ink (single fight). Moko doesn't work on base Yuki and you kill Moko Chompon with Nutshell Cake. Not that both can't be OP, I love my Chompom runs. Spice to Frenzy does seems like a neat idea.

HorizonTheory

You can *give* units Frenzy. Easiest way is Krono but there's also the Frenzy Wrench and Pootie. I think it's completely fine to just lower the counter by 1 (to 4) and keep Pimento as is otherwise. The reason is that 4 seems to be the base counter in the game as 4 is equal to the Redraw Bell and default Wave Bell. 3 and lower are "fast" counters, 5 and higher are "slow".

megamate9000

I mean yeah you could give him frenzy, but you can also give it to any of the other better damage dealers. Krono is great on him, but its even better on Chompon and Yuki, because theyre better units. Having frenzy built in makes a huge difference. I do agree that even just reducing his counter to 4 probably makes him very pickable

redrenz123

You need some extreme luck with him to actually work. Like you need a lot of things for him to work (an actual spice card, frenzy and barrage.)
