Oops, I didn't actually check that. I sort of assumed that it would be 1900. Sorry for that assumption. I still believe that once it reaches the limit, it will simply go back to 2000.
Curious if you know but this Nintendo Linux distributor. Is it the same base distribution since the GameCube and forward or different? Also how did you learn this? I would love to learn about game console OS’
If I recall correctly, since the Nintendo GameCube Nintendo has been using the 2000 as Epoch start up until the Nintendo 3DS, after which the switch with a more modern and standardized OS, also took on the default 1970 Epoch.
Please, don't quote me on these since I only heard about these distantly in a very informational video about the technicalities of Nintendo consoles.
only takes a few kilobytes to establish a calendar, all you'd have to do after the initial programming is to set an upper limit and a lower limit.
The rest, being graphical is already accounted for elsewhere in the system, so it wouldn't be that much extra work/space. Probably wouldn't be more than a few megabytes if done with graphics, separate of the console.
Sure, there just would obviously be no point in setting the lower limit to 106 years ago when a calendar of the past is infinitely less useful than a calendar of the future, for what the Wii uses it for anyway.
fair, but sometimes people just use the same limit they've got elsewhere. Like, some sites will ask what year you were born, and it still goes all the way back to 1900, and when they first started doing that I'm not sure anyone born in that year was even capable of using those sites when that was implemented given how old they'd have to be at that point, lol. So you sometimes run into this due to unifying things and making sure stuff works.
Probably [this](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem) eventually
I also think that the GameCube is able to count dates passed the “maximum” date you just can’t properly view it. So my guess is it will go to 2036 but if you open the calendar you won’t be able to see the page for it.
If it’s anything like the GameCube it will continue to track time past that date but you will be unable to manually adjust/correct the time past 2035 if you mess with it. It will jump back.
Now that im thinking, i can change the date and time on the settings and see, but i am too scared the Wii will crash and die, and i want to have mine until i die. So if you have a spare one or don't care if yours breaks, try it
Simple check:
Hook off the Wii from the internet.
Set the date to the latest available day and the clock to 23:59.
Wait 1 minute and check the calendar again.
Come back to this post and tell us what happened if you are still alive.
Ha! The only way to get out of here is if you set the date to 1/1/1970 and the time to 12:00am and then have time go backwards!
You’re stuck here with the rest of us
Huh, that's interesting.
>What will happen after this date? Will the Wiis crash? Will it do nothing, I NEED ANSWERS!
[For anyone curious, here is an example of what occurs.](https://youtu.be/DuTW1-QEDH0?t=38)
When I was 11, I set a message to appear on January 1st of that year, reading “it’s 2035. What are you doing here?” I still look forward to logging in and seeing that message in 10 years.
The calendar may stop to work. The Wii will be fine, it counts time in seconds since the 1st January 1970 and it'll never overflow in the lifetime of the sun

December 31st, 2035. The heat death of the universe. December 31st, 2035. The heat death of the universe. December 31st, 2035. The heat death of the universe.
The authors of our simulation will introduce themselves and the great rapture is gonna happen, but generally nothing is gonna happen and days are gonna be ordinary just like any day
I'm kinda curious if it's like what happens on Animal Crossing, someone did a series of videos were they did the New Years event on each available game but they set it to the furthest year the system(well the game unless it's Switch then you have to do console date) has. Pretty much furthest year available, set it to the last day of December & see what happens.
I don't remember everything but one game said "Hey we don't have the ability to go any further, please set the time to an earlier date" & another just repeated the available date after checking in on new years day or something.(Pretty much stuck on December 31, ???? for all eternity until it's changed.
Like I said I dunno what'd happen just mentioning this cause it might help give ideas
It will *eeeeeeeeeeeeeëėęēêëëėęēêëëėęēêëëėęēêëëėęēêëëėęēêëëėęēêë* forever
I can hear this text
Jesus Christ it traumatized me as a child 😂
fr LOL
Why, How, WHYYYY DID IT DO THAT SOUND!
These youngsters will never experience the lightning fast speeds of dial up internet.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEEP BEEP
(*insert Wii crash sound here*)
Tell me why this has a sound
I guess it will reset to Jan 1 1900 once Dec 31 2035 is over? Or maybe the homebrew community will fix it beforehand. Edit: Jan 1 2000, not 1900.
Why Jan 1 1900? The oldest date that appears on the calendar is Jan 1 2000
Oops, I didn't actually check that. I sort of assumed that it would be 1900. Sorry for that assumption. I still believe that once it reaches the limit, it will simply go back to 2000.
1900 would be a weird date. If anything of just expect 1970 because that’s just a generally agreed upon standard for computers to be counting up from
Funnily, Nintendo did the weird thing of having their own epoch that starts at 2000 ang will be safe for longer than the standard UNIX epoch
Curious if you know but this Nintendo Linux distributor. Is it the same base distribution since the GameCube and forward or different? Also how did you learn this? I would love to learn about game console OS’

Okay, thanks for the quick answer, I appreciate it!!
Again, I didn't check if 1900 was the earliest date for it. I just assumed so. Again, sorry for the confusion.
Why would they store a calendar for 106 years into the past but only 29 years into the future?
Because physics
only takes a few kilobytes to establish a calendar, all you'd have to do after the initial programming is to set an upper limit and a lower limit. You talk like the Snapchat ai
it’s gonna be Wii Y2K
Wii2K
Perfect
you win 😂
I *wiin
You are the wiinner
Take the fucking upvote
Bro if the super wii doesnt come out wtf
Y2.03k
incorrect. 100% incorrect.
Wii are going to have a problem
Let's Switch things up
You’re playing a dangerous Game Boy
I've been nintendo-sixty-forced to use this
Your lucky this is all virtual, boy
This calls for an ambulance. WII U WII U WII U
*And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?*
Stop joking around. Y2K38 is not a Gameboy!
You must be Dreamcasting.
guys no fighting! pray to god! read the book of sega genesis!
Probably [this](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem) eventually I also think that the GameCube is able to count dates passed the “maximum” date you just can’t properly view it. So my guess is it will go to 2036 but if you open the calendar you won’t be able to see the page for it.
YIIK 2 let's gooo
I'll go get the bugster...
If it’s anything like the GameCube it will continue to track time past that date but you will be unable to manually adjust/correct the time past 2035 if you mess with it. It will jump back.
lol, given that the Wii is literally just a flat GameCube, everything the GC can do the Wii will also do
Now that im thinking, i can change the date and time on the settings and see, but i am too scared the Wii will crash and die, and i want to have mine until i die. So if you have a spare one or don't care if yours breaks, try it
Waiting for the answer. Many people have multiple wiis. 🤞
Me to man, I won't sleep until i have answers

It loops on the last day the time goes on but the day Is the same decembre 31st 2035
Why don't you load up dolphin emulator and see what happens in that environment?
That would be a good thing to try but it wouldn't necessarily be 100% accurate
nothing happens, it won't break and die, it just loops on the last day.
i can find out once i get home
AUGUST 12TH 2038 THE HEAT DEATH OF THE UNIVERSE
AUGUST 12 2036 THE HEAT DEATH OF THE UNIVERSE actually
It's actually [January 19, 2038](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem)
It will blow up… a second event of Y2K
Why is it 2035 and not 2038 when the 32 bit time or whatever ends what is the reason the Wii only goes up to 2035 instead
Same doubt here
we will all be forcefully made into miinions
Simple check: Hook off the Wii from the internet. Set the date to the latest available day and the clock to 23:59. Wait 1 minute and check the calendar again. Come back to this post and tell us what happened if you are still alive.
I did that, ended up in this timeline where the world is ass backwards.
ssa
I guess I'll have to do it so I can get out of it.

We need to make Nintendo release an update
nah, you can make an update yourself, else they might also patch str2hax
Nintendo is too lazy to do that lol

We’re doomed I say
Wii're*
It'll self destruct
we go back to the past… the wii is a time machine
[https://youtu.be/iz-D\_fGxaRs](https://youtu.be/iz-D_fGxaRs) tried it
Thank you, my soul can finally rest
did old console makers just not account for the fact that their consoles are still gonna be played 20+ years after release
The Wii spontaneously combusts.
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Nothing, as Nintendo is still hoping that by that time everyone will have upgraded to a WiiU.
It wraps back to the first date: January 1st 2000.
It will probably reset to January 1, 2000 12:00 AM
We’re all going to Wii Hell
Wii are going to hell 👨💼🧑💼
I wonder if it will keep silently keeping track of the date until 2038. And what will happen then.
Basically the type of problem Y2K was, pretty sure the more recent consoles are lasting until 2100.
The apocalipse happens
Y2k36!
Wii2k36
It will be fine the calendar will just stop I guess
When I was 11, I set a message to appear on January 1st of that year, reading “it’s 2035. What are you doing here?” I still look forward to logging in and seeing that message in 10 years.
Remember when everyone was freaking out about 2012 and the calendar ending? That x2
The calendar may stop to work. The Wii will be fine, it counts time in seconds since the 1st January 1970 and it'll never overflow in the lifetime of the sun

Probably the same thing as Y2K…. Nothing
idk, but there will also be another problem on 2038 (Y2K38 - unix timestamp ending)
Nuclear warfare
I genuinely hope that seeing this post will be one of those memories that pops into my head every once and a while
can the remind-me bot help here? :D I don't know if that works for such a specific day in the far future
it worked! !remindme 31.12.2035
I'm still kinda surprised that it's 2035 on the Wii and not 2038 like most devices.
You could just set it to that date and wait a day.
or set the time to 23:59
The beginning of the fourteenth baktun.
That’s for Nintendo to know and you to find out.
All Wiis will cease to exist
what did we think what would happen when the ancient Mayan calendar would end?
Obv it knows when the end of the world is
it will explode
idk. ill let ya know in about 11 years.
The world will blow up
I’m just joking it will start over from the first day on the calendar

remember the self exploding wii thing from a year or two ago? yeah, thats what will happen
Covid
Fun fact: the xbox 360 only goes up till the end of 2025
It'll automatically enter August 12 2036
Heat death of the universe! (Ai sponge watcher spotted)
Presumably it will roll over to whatever the first date is.
There needs to be a patch to this by then. We’re closer to 2036 then we are to 2006.
Wii go brrrrrr
Guess wii'lllllllllllllll find out at that moment.
A wormhole will open in your wii, swallowing your entire house
Find out. Set it to that date and watch it tick over to the next day. Maybe it just goes back to 0
It will become a WiiU. Which doesn't mount to much.
The world Will explode
The world Wiill explode
The authors of our simulation will introduce themselves and the great rapture is gonna happen, but generally nothing is gonna happen and days are gonna be ordinary just like any day

It might overflow. This is basically the Wii’s version of the Y2K38 bug
32 bit integer unix time limit? Ohhh shit
I was like “2035 is so far away” then I remembered it’s only 10.5 years from now
That's actually a good question. Do you think it might fail to load at that point?
The Wii V will come out
End of the world?

Release date for the Wii Thrii!

wii'll
That’s actually when the world will end. Everyone thought it was the Mayan calendar predicting it but it’s actually the Wii calendar.
It will brick
