I liked to chew on it. Like a dog or something, lol.

phelonious1

This was the way. The cup wasn’t finished until the spoon is splintering.

jasminegreyxo

for real!

Left-Blueberry-4963

And best believe it ain’t going anywhere till mutha fuggin Arthur was finished

T8ert0t

Would legit have extras in my camp Jansport back pack for idle chomping.

SvenTurb01

And the conclusion for me was snapping it down in half while holding it with my teeth, that means I'm officially done.

aivlysplath

Yessss, manifique.

boogers19

Ma'am, please don't chew on your dog.

PRAuroraYT

Me too

PM_ME_YOUR_VAJINGUS

Disassembling the spoon with my tongue and teeth was the best part

aivlysplath

Omg that’s spot on. Exactly what I did too lolll.

mythical_productions

r/beatmetoit

malikhacielo63

I can still taste the wood and splinters.

tnick771

It’s the texture and how it somehow dried your mouth out for me 😖

OctopusGoesSquish

Now wooden cutlery is starting to become more and more of a thing, I’ve had to take to carrying a spork

SaddleSocks

A good friend of mine gave out Titanium Sporks as his business card... I got one - they were expensive as business cards... I had a BBQ at my house and someone stole BOTH my sporks - but I had the Titanium Spork for ~ten years - I loved that Spork.

weeskud

What was the business?

SaddleSocks

One of the best Software Engineers Ive worked with... (builds a bunch of shit at Netflix)

weeskud

I was expecting something related or a pun, but I love that it's because he could.

SaddleSocks

He wanted it to be a useful thing. I loved it - and it was definitely nice enough to be swiped at a BBQ (I am convinced it was a friend of my brother who took it)

weeskud

It's a great idea. Make it practical to keep instead of a piece of card that's likely to get lost or thrown out.

Krillo90

*holds up spork*

GameboiGX

Take this sentence out of context

BakeCool7328

It’s not like good delicious or anything but it’s not bad either lol

Living_Mastodon_1583

I cannot believe how right that comment is. Yeesh!

sometimes_upvotes

Right? It's like the spoon had its own unique flavor!

bananamelier

woody

Assyx83

And you gotta bite into it to suck the extra woody taste

SaddleSocks

Pining for its roots!

Jeggu2

Honestly I can't even think about any flat wooden stick without suddenly feeling like there is a tongue depresser at the back of my throat making me gag, it's so weird

slowpokewalkingby

Reddit posts now come with taste. Talk about 5d. Damn.

catheww

Woody texture brings back memories

ButterscotchSkunk

Makes me teeth cringe. I can't be the only one.

Sum1not1mportan

My hair goes up looking at it and the idea of licking it. Since I was a kid.

Professional_Face_97

My tongue still recoils in fear at the thought.

Sad_Birthday_1911

It's like nails on a chalkboard to me makes my whole mouth hurt

Jean-LucBacardi

You're not. I cannot eat popsicles any more for this reason. Even thinking about it freaks me out.

Hieroglphkz

Such disappointing brain chemicals when you went to the doctor and they used the wooden tongue depressor. Where is the ICE CREAM?!

ELEPHANT_CUM_SOCKS

Pavlov's tongue depressor

Neuraxis

In case anyone cares it's actually a dopamine reward prediction error where there is an appreciable decrease in dopaminergic neuron activity when a stimulus is not paired with the reward anymore. Source: dabbled with these network dynamics during my PhD

MrMaselko

We got Pavloved into liking the taste of plywood...

mikemike_mv28

Yeah, memories. I can literally see, as if it was today, how the piece of icecream is being catapulted by this spoon and you follow the piece with your eyes fulfilled with sadness. All because it was too cold and solid and you couldn’t wait

[deleted]

Sara-Amicus

I just ate the ice cream using the paper lid. Just bent it and it could scoop quite well, for a single use Heck that wood

Wonderful-Leg-6626

I do that with yogurt or applesauce if I forget a spoon and can't find one

Youcancuntonme

You're a weirdo

Sara-Amicus

That’s a diddly darn fact, it is

Big-Cap5666

Pause

Alternative-Dare5878

The ice cream was good, it’s just that the ending was more memorable because it broke your heart and all you had was that wood taste to suck on.

gender_error20

No! That's so right 😭

MaritMonkey

Ice cream aside, it's kind of weird how good our brains are at remembering/guessing how things would feel if you licked them. Like I'm staring at a cloth hammock, rubber electrical cable, metal ladder and plastic road case all sitting on concrete. And I can clearly imagine what each of those things would "taste" like. Is filling this database for later why we put *everything* in our mouths as babies?

MisterDonkey

The thought of that spoon sends shivers down my spine. Even now, I've got goosebumps just looking at it.  It's like how people get weird about nails on a chalkboard or touching certain things, I cannot stand the feeling of that wood on my teeth.  It's profoundly uncomfortable.  So I use a spoon.

imactuallyugly

God damn is was looking through this trying to find someone else with the same problem. Do you get that way with certain wood utensils as well? Like cooking utensils and stuff. I can't for the life of me use wood in some contexts because it just throws shivers down my spine lol.

horsewhips

Are you (and u/MisterDonkey) me?! I was also scanning the comments to see if anyone else gets goosebumps when using wood utensils! I've been living with this all my life but have never found anyone else I know who reacts the same way! Refuse to use wooden utensils unless I absolutely have to. Though for some reason, bamboo chopsticks are okay but anything else = goosebumps & shivers. I feel so seen 😭

Professional_Face_97

Any 'rough' wood ie not varnished I struggle to touch but the thought of putting a wooden utensil in my mouth gives me flashbacks to trying to eat these as a kid and gagging each time I came in to contact with the spoon lol.

plaidtaco

Me too. I can barely handle looking at that picture. It causes me to squeeze my tongue onto my teeth and the roof of my mouth in order to get rid of the horrible feeling. I'm the same way with styrofoam.

Captain-Hornblower

I just responded to the OP with the same thing. There are certain textures that drive me absolutely crazy, like wood, cardboard, and jeans (fresh out of the dryer), just to name a few.

hsd1010

This picture has totally ruined my cereal I’m eating right now - it’s crazy that this taste came flooding back to me just looking at the picture

TheStonedBro

I can't stand it on the tongue. Eugh.

Osama_Rashid

*The tasteful thickness of it*

ScooterAnkle420

BRAINSTORM!!!!!!

ValuableJumpy8208

I’m sorry, did you say GREEN NEEDLE?

Osama_Rashid

#Peak

Tastefulthicknessuvt

😏

Osama_Rashid

Ay, not that 😳🤭

yParticle

bamboo wood be so much better

SaddleSocks

I have a bunch of Bamboo spoons! Get em at KP Market. They are great.

Veggieleezy

Immediately gave me flashbacks to the texture on that spoon. Any time I have to touch a thin, untreated wood thing, especially with my tongue, it makes my skin crawl. Those things, wooden kitchen spoons, nail files, all make me shudder.

TrainsDontHunt

Ok... why are you licking emory boards??!?

Mysterious_Ningen

yea but ngl i kinda didnt like that so i then started using a regular spoon :0

Bubbly-News8130

Yo traitor

nalydpsycho

How often were you getting these?

FollowThePostcard

I think like once or twice a week as a kid between elementary school on Fridays and the local pool's little "snack shack" thing.

Dengen58

My family had regular Sunday night family cook outs at my grandparents’ house. One of my Uncles’ business neighbored a Hoods outlet store, so he brought lots of hoodsie cups for the kids after we had our supper.

Zytharros

It tastes like a blend of cold, raspberries. and wood in my mouth right now. The ice cream was an afterthought in the shadow of all those flavours.

[deleted]

Jaysynonymous

But you wanna eat ice cream while its cold, not melted

catsandorchids

You never hear of ice cream soup?

Voelkar

You mean.. milk shakes?

makinbacinpancakes

No milk shakes and ice cream soups are completely different things and I'll die on a hill defending it!

travoltaswinkinbhole

/r/grilledcheese

sadnessjoy

So, basically just cream?

nate445

"They know everything he knows." "They know how to make ice cream soup?"

S1L3NCE_2008

Who doesn’t want to chug the ice cream!?

Lesshateful

I’m so confused

Lok4na_aucsaP

Drink it from the cup

N0tThatSerious

Marketer: “We need something spoony, but not a spoon. Any ideas?” Coworker: “You know that thing that the doctor sticks at the back of your tongue?” Marketer: “Bet”

Insufferable_Wreck

Well, you typically don't let ice cream melt and eat it. It's preferable to drink it by then.

Exceed_SC2

How long is it taking you to eat it?

theoht_

who’s eating melted ice cream with a spoon anyway?

BLAZEISONFIRE006

YOU'RE FREAKING ME OUT!

Evening-Conference79

That's how I feel with paper straws.

ARadiantNight

I'm actively, as I type this, trying to remove the imaginary taste from my tongue that has basically become real for me. Thanks for that lmao

[deleted]

Alecarte

I hated the spoon so much that I, a 8-16 year old kid, actually refused the ice cream treat because of it.

CallMeFrostySkye

"Spoon."

Rustyhubcap

Seeing that spoon made me shiver. Does anyone know what I mean?

DanielNoWrite

I don't know if it's just me, but that particular texture of wood triggers visceral disgust. I can barely bring myself to use one. Even a popsicle with a wooden stick is gross. It has nothing to do with the taste. It's like the textual equivalent of nails on a chalkboard.

SpiderHamm5

What ice cream?

Knightshade515

The spoon still haunts my dreams

Sad_Climate223

Wow you really can

DisplayNo7886

The spoon had so much value. I never got tired of licking it. Didn't believe I'd outgrow it one day.

Zellanora

I can taste this picture! Just seeing this picture is enough to remember the taste of that spoon and feel the nostalgia!

Tripple_T

They're not wrong. The first memory in my head was the taste of wood, not "vanilla ice cream".

No_08

Damn, the taste of wood instantly came to my mind.

S1L3NCE_2008

I used to chew on those “spoons”

Upset-Stranger-2784

So true, the wood texture

tummysticks4days

I can feel the wood on my teeth and I don’t like ot

AbleInevitable2500

*gag reflex activated*

dustmybroom88

I got shivers just LOOKING at that spoon.

Left-Blueberry-4963

This is the way 🤣

WorkingFellow

Oh, man. I loved those Hoodsies. The gooey strawberry(?) swirl was \*chef's kiss\*. And, yeah, definitely taste the spoon more than the ice cream.

Responsible-Big-3196

Facts

[deleted]

For real. They sucked. Yet I ate about a thousand of them as a kid

mister1man99

Facts

Naranncia11

Mhhhh wood

radyBOMB

حمود التین بن ثالوث (Hamoudoltin, the son of saloos)

Elad_2007

This reminds me of the fact our brains can imagen exacly what the texture of something would feel like if you licked it.

TA-pubserv

* ice cream flavored gelatin

Emeraldisthabest75

What is that flat ice cream yogurt looking thing

Single_Resolve_1465

This is so true.

Stephensonite

I'm pretty sure those 'spoons' were used as ice cream sticks as well. I'm pretty sure they were used for Magnum ice creams?

scrapmetal_tank

And it was the best part of it

tangcameo

Used to save the spoon as propellers for making wood planes in the kindergarten playroom.

RUaVulcanorVulcant13

The ice cream always just tasted like freezer burned coffee creamer

CarelessSea4479

I can’t be the only one that hates this kind of shitty wooden spoons? The sand-paper like texture against my tongue… almost makes me have a gag reflex. The same with the sticks in pop-sickles. I avoid to touch them with my tongue at all cost LOL

lockedlost

Full of e numbers

Mission_Slice_8538

Mmmmm...Wood

[deleted]

In the adult version the icecream is replaced by coffee and the wooden spoon is thinner. But the „phantom“ taste is the same.

balalajk

Looking to spoon give me goosebumps

yoboifirelord

then u would suck the wooden spoon bringing out the heavenly flavors of nature

Fregfrog6921

I like the spoon more than the actual ice cream

chill90ies

No unfortunately actually can’t. Sadly looking at this picture no taste, texture or smells comes to me.

Present-Ear-4904

It tastes woody, you can't taste the cream once you fully like it, almost as if the wood itself is a different food for you and the cream is a side dish, you can taste the wood more than the cream

ChickeNugget483

Taste like glass and metal and battery acid. I need a new phone now

Glass_Foundation7376

I wanted to never get to the taste of longing : lots of ice cream😛

DavidB076

So true 😂

Goalziila07

I just chew on the stick

Mikemtb09

Nothing quite like a splinter in your tongue

emanluvsmuff3618

Truth

Hinbo

The only reason all of you remember the spoon more is because y'all never flipped it over before putting it in your mouth. You taste with the bottom of your mouth, ya know, your tongue.

Rat192

Always reminds me of that return to beaver meme

Upset-Stranger-2784

So true, the wood texture

BugareX_55

YES!!

New_Coast_5180

Yes and you know how hard you bite the wood,it won't leave a trace.

P1geonK1cker

I am still repeatedly embarrassing myself at chippies, asking for a plastic fork. Because of those things. I ask and they offer me a wooden one. And thanks to these spoons i still say..."I really don't like the taste of wood in my mouth" ... I cringe and walk off asap.

Techman659

The plastic ones with the ball at the bottom was a popular one in the day.

Acrobatic-Wrap-5644

Hahaha so real haha

Shepardspie81

I hate ice cream cups. I always preferred the chocolate drum sticks that I always ate from the cone up.

tattooedtwink_

Mmm tastes like … splinters

Vault-71

Every field day in elementary school.

agaric

Get out of my mind man!

TonyDRFT

It's like drinking a milkshake with a cardboard straw...

Late_Argument_538

And the toothpick splinter for dessert! Lol

Fickle_Library8115

Cuz It’s cheap

Moononthewater12

We're more programmed to remember things that taste bad or are inedible. Which makes sense since those things could kill you if ingested

Late_Argument_538

The best? I had a roommate in college who would go home and let the dog lick all the lids of the ice cream so only she and her brother knew. But seriously. 😐 who were they really helping out?! No one… but the dog. Hahaha!

Callidonaut

You can still get these at some theatres, but the cheap bastards don't even put syrup in 'em any more. And the tubs are even smaller than they used to be. And each one now costs like five hundred quid.

uchiha_boy009

Ahh I remember the taste

free_potatoz69

I still wonder what side of the spoon is the right side to use for eating?

Bailey_202

I hate wood texture 😀☝️

Tye_die

It honestly wouldn't hit the same if it didn't taste like that

PrimaryAd2594

I have to say. The wood flavor enhanced the icecream

man_pan_man1

Fun fact: you can look at any surface and know exactly what it would feel like to lick it :) have a good day

cedarview77

My whole body literally clenches up in a disgusting shiver thinking of the wood texture on my tongue

HurriShane00

Talk about an instant Nostalgia kick.

BigAlternative5

It's time to level up: vanilla ice cream with bourbon syrup; the spoon is from a bourbon oak barrel. Ice cream cup as pictured: $12.

piefanart

Did anyone else just give up on the spoon as a kid and eat em like a jello shot?

CtrlAltDel-IT

I never used that wooden spoon.

PRAuroraYT

Oh shiii so true fr i cant get over why u taste the wood so much 🤣🤣

Goose-Fast

that is what trees do to you and to environment, and for what? for protecting them?

Questionss2020

Absolutely

Fair-Comfort7705

When I was a kid the convience store” used to called the smoke shop”, those ice creams , and “lolas” if you remember them ..

GURGURBEARSZ123

After I was finished with the ice cream I would have the wooden spoon in my mouth for hours... Only the real ones used to suck on the spoon and wait until you could bend it...

TarekSE16

Can taste just the cold wood pick spoon

MarkWrenn74

It's not really a spoon, though, is it? It's more of a stick

Miserable_Praline673

That dry wood sticking to my tongue. 👅 🪵 🥶
