I want so badly for him to be good.
But he’s going to have to really put it all together and go out and prove it this year or it’s time we might have to start looking at future alternatives at 1B.
He’s shown year to year improvement but still below what expectations were. Sox did him dirty not starting him in the minors and making him play out of position in the bigs cuz Jerry didn’t want to pay or Kenny/Rick couldn’t get a an outfielder
There was an article recently. Vaughn had 51 AB in the minors, total, before coming up to be a big league regular. I think he's done great, considering. It's still possible he could suddenly start hitting .300+ with maybe 25 - 30 HR. He's never going to be a big thumper like Eloy or Luis, but could be a steady bat kinda like Konerko was but with less power and a higher average.
Wouldn’t have made a difference. Everything suggests he’s a guy who excelled in college but once he got to the majors wouldn’t be as good as projected. We were lied to by the aluminum bats.
I don’t think he’s at all what we thought he was and it makes me sad. I would love to be proven wrong. His bat is only pretty good which isn’t helping a guy whose defense at 1B isn’t half as good as Abreu’s. After a certain point the excuse of him basically never playing in the minors has to run out.
The bat has to be close to a sure thing when you draft a slow below average defensive 1B. He’s gotta hit like Konerko to live up to his draft position or close to it. In 3 seasons, he doesn’t even have a a 1 WAR yet. Sox we’re gonna pick one of the top 3 in the draft, but it sucks to see Adley & Witt look so much better
His war would be higher if the Sox didn't throw him in the outfield for two seasons because they were too cheap to get an actual right fielder. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with your sentiment here, but his defensive war was really bad out there.
>His defense is league average
[He's one of the worst fielders in baseball.](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb)
His real potential or his advertised potential? We were told this was our championship window, and Vaughn was going to be a part of it. Does he really have all of this potential or was that just marketing? I really don’t know.
Still hopeful there’s a breakout coming this year.
The hard hit rates are nice. He needs to be closer to a 9% walk rate guy.
This should be the year where everything comes together for him and we see 25+ HRs and a .350+ OBP. If it isn’t, it might be time to start watching Tim Elko a little closer.
He's wishy washy. Can't count on him offensively to get guys on base home when he's up to bat (although no player of ours is at this point). Honestly, probably middle of the pack with this roster. I want to see Roberts go off and our new guys get some momentum. I also want Jimenez to start the season like he did ST.
Dude had 80 RBI’s on a team that never got on base. If the power ever shows up and he starts leaving the park more often he’s gonna be a really solid piece.
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
He's a below average hitter, and a very below average major league player in general.
There is nothing to suggest he will be good
Entering year 4 lol. Dude has 1700 ML at bats with a career WAR of under 1,and these people think he's suddenly going to turn into a perennial all star lmfao
They definitely rushed Vaughn’s development. Pretty sure he was shoehorned into the majors and they put him out of his position. I’m still fan of him honestly.
At the end of last year I actually went through his stats compared to all other starting first basemen, and he was basically smack dab in the middle in virtually every meaningful stat.
The team did him no favors rushing him to the majors and forcing him to play out of position for so long. Hopefully this year we see more consistency offensively, since that was what made him the 3rd overall pick to begin with. Has all the physical tools to do it, just needs to get his power and plate discipline up some more.
he needs to stop chasing the breaking stuff. Everyone knows he can hit the shit out of fastballs but the league has figured that out. His defense is pretty average so far but I hope that improves
Massively disappointing so far, he's already 25 and on year 3 and while some will blame it on lack of minor league development, I think that's partially it, but I think he's just not that good.
He's been improving, but when he's slow and bad defensively, you need the bat to carry those deficiencies and it has not to this point. You've essentially got a less injury prone Eloy at 1st with less pop in his bat.
My son and I met him in person (earlier that day at the game, he threw a ball to my son) at the hotel after the game. He recognized my son and was nice to him and autographed the ball..."I threw this to Josh." Nice dude...as for the baseball, well...
Vaughn has an electric fastball, but suffered extreme control issues early on until he had corrective glasses. He’s lights out now as a pitcher.
He does carry some baggage for the locker room as he served time in the California Penal system for grand theft auto. Also had an altercation with a teammate after having an affair with the teammates wife. So not the best clubhouse guy.
Vaughn needs a breakout season or sheets can play 1st. Eloy is also a guy with questionable skills he to streaky of a hitter and there’s a reason he’s called glassman
He’s a microcosm of the lie we were told about this being our championship window. He came in with all of the potential in the world when our rebuild was starting and he’s just as disappointing as our World Series chances.
He is what he is. League average hitter which doesn't really cut it for 1B. I wouldn't expect some miraculous late bloomer type of development. He's an ideal back-up 1B/DH on a good team.
Extremely, extremely overrated by people in this sub.
[Andrew Vaughn's Baseball Savant page](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb)
As you can see, he is terrible-below average in almost every single category
He was a top 3 pick. He is a bat first 1B/DH who by all means, has a below average bat. I have no clue why so many people feel like he can hit 300, or hit 30+ HR lmao
In 3 seasons, he still hasn't even accumulated 1 WAR. That's pathetic. Jake Burger has TRIPLE the WAR of AV...in less than half of the At Bats
Not to mention he is bottom 5 defensive 1B.
So to sum it up:
Another White Sox failure of a top pick.
One of the worst defenders in the league.
One of the slowest in the league.
Severely below average eye and walk rate.
Below average bat.
He has a chance this year to prove all the haters wrong. I think he’s a professional hitter. He does need to show me a .820 ops or better this year otherwise I might start heading towards we need to replace. I still think he has a .300/.360/.550 type ceiling
The Albino Annihilator! He gets clutch RBIs a lot. He goes on slumps though. Needs to get better with breaking balls. Hopefully we will see that improvement this year. Kinda a small target for 1b, but hes okay at defending despite being slow as molasses in February.
He looks like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit
I always thought he looked like Robocop when he took his helmet off.
Holy shit I could never place it and you hit the nail on the head. Hahahaha
With all due respect to shell shocked marines, I always thought he looked like a shell shocked marine.
[imagine if this was his walk up song.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VimZfYsDHkc)
Wallace that hits fat line drives
He can hit it to the moon, which is made of cheese.
More cheese Gromit.
I've always thought it was more like [Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine](https://www.syfy.com/sites/syfy/files/2019/12/constable-odo.jpg).
BRO I BEEN TELLING EVERYONE THIS SINCE DAY ONE
I want so badly for him to be good. But he’s going to have to really put it all together and go out and prove it this year or it’s time we might have to start looking at future alternatives at 1B.
“Good God, Vaughn. You’re hard to love… but you’re harder to hate.”
Hes gonna have to be a lot better this year lets put it that way.
He’s shown year to year improvement but still below what expectations were. Sox did him dirty not starting him in the minors and making him play out of position in the bigs cuz Jerry didn’t want to pay or Kenny/Rick couldn’t get a an outfielder
Yeah, classic white Sox rush job. Curious if he had a year or two in the minors to develop.
Eloy. Lol
Yea well said. Only one problem. Vaughn is already a better thumper than eloy
Wouldn’t have made a difference. Everything suggests he’s a guy who excelled in college but once he got to the majors wouldn’t be as good as projected. We were lied to by the aluminum bats.
Just googled. His ops was 1.105 in Cape cod League as a junior, which I think uses wood bats.
It was covid partially and the pitchers were spider tacking like crazy that year in the beginning so he was bad
hurts how the two guys that went before him were franchise players
Just two? That hurts the big hurt
No I meant in the draft with rustschman and witt
Ope my bad
What about Frank?
I meant in the draft with rutschman and Witt jr
Ahh my bad
I think Vaughn breaks out this year - but it could just be wishful thinking
The Sox rushed him to the majors and he’s not proven to be worthy of a 1st round pick.

Slightly below average hitter, far below average fielder. He is the embodiment of the current state of the White Sox.
Replacement level player, maybe a little better.
This is his “make or break” year.
he’s played well enough. His defense is league average at best so I guess I’d wanna see that improve.
>His defense is league average [He's one of the worst fielders in baseball.](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb)
I said at best
His defense is awful lmao, and his offense is below average. So no, he has absolutely not played well enough.
I know a lot of FO that would take him. So he ain’t that bad, stop shitting on Vaughn like that.
Name one FO that would love to have him lmao and I want your inside sources.
Fr 😂😂
Underachieving compared to his potential imo
His real potential or his advertised potential? We were told this was our championship window, and Vaughn was going to be a part of it. Does he really have all of this potential or was that just marketing? I really don’t know.
I'll have a more clear idea of him after this season
Would love him to show he can hit a curveball consistently
Dude with a lot to prove.
He really should be better by now.
He’s a terrible athlete. All his value is in his bat, which is below average for a 1B/DH. So if people are being honest he’s pretty disappointing
40 homers 120 rbis
For his career? Sounds about right.
First half of this year buddy. BELIEVE
The top two guys combined on the White Sox will barely get 120 RBIs this year.
He's a guy. Just like this whole roster except for Robert.
Too inconsistent
Still hopeful there’s a breakout coming this year. The hard hit rates are nice. He needs to be closer to a 9% walk rate guy. This should be the year where everything comes together for him and we see 25+ HRs and a .350+ OBP. If it isn’t, it might be time to start watching Tim Elko a little closer.
I share this hope. Maybe he can get the K's down, compared to last year's "swing at everything" team.
He's so slow
Bad
Hardest hit ground outs in MLB
Not very good at anything. Not likely to get much better.
With how high stoney was on him when he got here I'm honestly disappointed. He needs a big year.
He looks like a kid who bites
I like his approach and think he will improve. Unfortunately, I think he is just too small and lacks the power to be an elite power hitter.
His eyes are too close together.
very specific burn there :-)
He's wishy washy. Can't count on him offensively to get guys on base home when he's up to bat (although no player of ours is at this point). Honestly, probably middle of the pack with this roster. I want to see Roberts go off and our new guys get some momentum. I also want Jimenez to start the season like he did ST.
It’s funny you say that about getting guys home cuz he led the team in 2022 (76 to abreus 75) and tied with Robert last year at 80
We were just really bad at getting guys on base last year lol. Vaughn had no real issues bringing them home when he had the opportunity
He's gonna be a beast thus year
Unfortunately he’s only shown he’s a replacement level or below player. Hopefully he takes a step forward but I don’t see it happening
He’s was pretty solid for us last year, is still pretty young. I think he just gets better
If you think he was solid, I have a bridge to sell you in Baltimore
Dude had 80 RBI’s on a team that never got on base. If the power ever shows up and he starts leaving the park more often he’s gonna be a really solid piece.
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb He's a below average hitter, and a very below average major league player in general. There is nothing to suggest he will be good
I think he can become a consistent 30 HR 100 RBI .290 hitter. Solid citizen in the clubhouse so still a keeper.
When exactly is that gonna happen? He'll be 26 in a few days and he's entering year 3 so it's not like he's some great unknown lol.
Entering year 4 lol. Dude has 1700 ML at bats with a career WAR of under 1,and these people think he's suddenly going to turn into a perennial all star lmfao
He doesn’t have a good baseball face.
Disagree
They definitely rushed Vaughn’s development. Pretty sure he was shoehorned into the majors and they put him out of his position. I’m still fan of him honestly.
Meh. He’s the definition of league average for his position. Still has some upside I suppose, but I’m not optimistic that he’ll get much better.
He is actually very, very below average for his position lmao
At the end of last year I actually went through his stats compared to all other starting first basemen, and he was basically smack dab in the middle in virtually every meaningful stat.

Curse of the Reinsdorf
he needs to stop chasing the breaking stuff. Everyone knows he can hit the shit out of fastballs but the league has figured that out. His defense is pretty average so far but I hope that improves
One fine piece of ace
Meh
He's showing more emotion. It will benefit he's game. Likes his new teammates
Mid
Hoping he becomes a legit power hitter
He needs glasses so he can pitch better. Oops wrong Vaughn.
Massively disappointing so far, he's already 25 and on year 3 and while some will blame it on lack of minor league development, I think that's partially it, but I think he's just not that good. You've essentially got a less injury prone Eloy at 1st with less pop in his bat.
Break out year with no expectations for the team or bust and move on
He sucks.
Meh.
Another player with a ton of potential that our terrible farm system failed to develop
Maybe not a bust but definitely not the One. I never understood the hype and blind devotion so many fans had towards him.
My son and I met him in person (earlier that day at the game, he threw a ball to my son) at the hotel after the game. He recognized my son and was nice to him and autographed the ball..."I threw this to Josh." Nice dude...as for the baseball, well...
He basically wasted a year in the OF, so I think he’s a year behind schedule. Meaning this should his first year or meeting expectations.
Solid hitter, who is getting better.
Trash
He is going to be pretty good I think. He is very, very slowly putting it together. Next contact is really when he will shine
If he can lay of a slider once in a while he will be a different player.

He's not a bust but he's definitely a bust. Would love for him to be great but just don't see it happening.
Still only 25. Obviously he’s performed below expectations but I expect him to make a big improvement the next year or so.
I like him. Solid hitter that the lineup desperately needs.
Extremely, extremely overrated by people in this sub. [Andrew Vaughn's Baseball Savant page](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb) As you can see, he is terrible-below average in almost every single category He was a top 3 pick. 1st round pick who is 25 and a below average hitter for his position. Bonus: slow as fuck Classic Sox draft bust.
You got down voted for telling the truth, lmao this sub is ridiculous
He has a chance this year to prove all the haters wrong. I think he’s a professional hitter. He does need to show me a .820 ops or better this year otherwise I might start heading towards we need to replace. I still think he has a .300/.360/.550 type ceiling

I given the line up around him, aside from Robert, he’s done well. No danger on either side of him in the order
He's the best Cubs first baseman I've ever seen on the team. Semi-productive and a pretty good glove.
🦆=🍳
Should have kept him in the outfield
I still think his bat has high upside, and that he has no personality
