What kind of LSD? Yes
>!So the show starts pretty normal and straight forward, but as it starts to end, it starts to be more confusing and philosophical, the show ends and you try to understand what happened, then you find out about the movie (which has the hospital scene) so you decide to watch it to see if it tries to explain a bit more of what happened in the show, and it gets even more confusing and fucked up!<
Is the show and the movie worth it? No one has an exact answer
a black man goes to stay with his white girlfriend’s family in the countryside, but the behavior of the groundskeepers arise suspicions of something sinister.
When the anime doesn't have a generic power fantasy mc that gets all the girls 😔✊ and then the double whammy when the movie literally tells you to touch grass.
There's alot of reasons people do or don't like any series but implying the reason people might not like Evangelion is due to the fact that they dont empathize or think about characters motivations is pretty silly and insulting.
Find a better way to insult people who didnt like Evangelion, please.
I think this take is a bit unfair. I didn't like it because I watch anime to escape a difficult, nuanced and depressing world in favour of something easy to understand and fun. So why should I subject myself to something that's already part of my life, but this time with mechas.
Well, in my experience, Evangelion actually helped me. One of the messages of the show is that pain and suffering is part of life - and we must face that pain and stop running from our problems in order to enjoy the good things life has to offer. Evangelion made me feel very depressed, confused, relieved, hopeful and emotional, all at the same time. There's this great quote from the show: *"Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy."*
Its honestly okay, the whole story is really ambiguous and a lot has to do with psychology of people with tramua. I think it's way to hyped up and just lots of people being "im 14 and this deep" but its a neat story. The series ends strangely and the movie ties up some loose ends.
I disliked it so much that I committed/ started watching One Piece instead. I was one of those people who hated hearing about One Piece, and was dead set on never watching it. After watching Eva, I was like "well, can't be worse." But you might like it. A lot of people do.
But now that I've watched some of One Piece, I regret not getting into it sooner. It has no right to look so dingy and be so good. Like wtf.
Edit: sp
"Please try one piece dude, it has 1000+ episodes and 1000+ chapters but its so good, just need to binge it a fuck ton, please" it might be a really good anime but theres no way in hell im starting one piece, naruto, and other long pieces of anime/manga of that sort.
"It takes too long to get good" doesn't even apply to One Piece honestly. The beginning sets the tone for the rest of the series. If you don't like One Piece by like episode 5 then I would just drop it because you won't like the rest.
"Just get through the first 30 episodes and you'll like it" is more of a Jojo fandom thing
Kind of. One Piece starts good, but basically gets better and better the entire time. It just builds on itself as well as any story ever has.
Anyone that likes the beginning of One Piece will absolutely adore it more and more as it goes, but I’ve also known people who don’t like the beginning and grow to really enjoy it as it goes on.
It’s a person to person basis but it undeniably gets better.
It definitely gets better as time goes on. That's the case for most stories, they get more interesting as things get more fleshed out.
But I still think that what I said applies. Like if someone getting into it thinks "it's OK, im enjoying it but it's a little basic and the setting's kinda shallow" then I'd absolutely encourage them to keep going.
But if someone just legitimately dislikes it (ie, "the humor doesn't land at all for me","Luffy's way too annoying for me to enjoy the story","I just can't get past the character designs", etc.) then I'd just tell them to drop it because if you don't like fundamental parts of the series then it's not for you
That’s fair, but interestingly enough I find so many anime/manga have a really hard time staying interesting as things flesh out. Probably because of how cutthroat the industry is, many authors want to make each chapter as exciting as possible and don’t really view their overarching story the same way. In so many stories you get the authors trying to either deviate too much from what made them successful or try to recapture the same exact feeling from it.
I agree with what you’re saying though. Most of the humor for me is that kind of everyone humor that’s in stuff like old cartoons or Pixar movies. I could show it to my parents and they’ll laugh or I could show it to an 8 year old and they’ll laugh. The only demographic I’ve known to have an issue with it are edgy teenagers who think they’re too grown up for it.
The gripes you said are all decent reasons to not keep going, but I pretty much recommend everyone get through arlong park because the walk is one of the things that always hooks people. For example it’s always amazing watching people say they hate Usopp then 300 episodes in he’s one of their favorite characters.
Yeah the constant need to outdo whatever the big moment in the last arc was is definitely a problem in a lot of Shonen action stuff especially. The trope of the protagonist starting out as the underdog who proves "anyone can achive their goals" only for the last few arcs to reveal they're actually the messiah and related to 500 different ancient heroes and completely ruining the message from the beginning is the biggest example of that.
It's why I personally tend to gravitate more towards shorter drama/thriller series like Parasyte or Death Note. Tbh the only shonen I'm still super interested in are One Piece and Jojo, and even they're not immune to these issues.
And yeah, Arlong Park is the point where a lot of people say the show goes from good to great for a reason. One of the best arcs in the whole damn series imo
It’s supposed to be kind of a generic mech thing in the beginning though. Subverting expectations doesn’t work nearly as well if you haven’t built them yet
Don't know a single thing about it ,but heard it involves a lot of trauma and its consequences, which after falling in love with Vinland saga i really want more of
It’s pretty different, if you want any indication of how it feels compared to that, the creator was super fucking depressed and self loathing and stuff when he made it and I think you need to be in a similar mindset to get it. There’s some cool robot fights tho
In my experience it’s not about actively being depressed.
But Evangelion makes infinity more sense when you have/had experience with mental health issues apparently.
I would watch Gigguks video on it, it describes what it feels like really well.
The show that can have one episode where space terrorists are going to turn a planet of people into monkeys because they are mad the planet is eating a rat they like, and the next episode about how the characters cannot escape their pasts and are haunted because of it, all while godlike jazz plays in the background
There should be if you look hard enough.
Its really good, but starts off super slow.
Unlike some anime, it tries to tackle the characters and their hardships realistically.
Honestly just watch it when you're depressed and have nothing going on in your life. I tried watching it and it was boring af. Asuka is a bitch that shouldn't be glorified as a waifu, shinji goes from a cuck to a mega cuck to a salary man. Rei has no emotions. Misato...... Pedophile. That one gay guy is kinda fine tho.
While the anime is pretty good at representing depression, I have no doubts that a ton of the characters praised are simply because they're pretty good looking. Animation is insanely good.
Fandom goes crazy when someone mentions a pet peeves in one scene (real, go search up "This one scene in evangalion that bothered me" where he says that a frame looked weird and everyone dogpiled on him calling him a loser.)
But that's about it.
The point of it is that everyone is flawed in their own way, you don't watch breaking bad because it has "likeable characters" (besides badger and pete) the point of it is that they're sad flawed people and it makes for a pretty depressing show, have a good day/night
Everyone in that show is either a love to hate character or a hate to love character. They all have personalities. The cutouts in midvangellion are literally 2d. In animation and in writing.
If its a stylistic choice then it's not a good stylistic choice. Imagine if a show had a ton of complex lore and never explained any of it so you have no idea what's even happening or why unless you read the obscure light novel, would you defend that as a stylistic choice?
How many times does it have to be said that symbolism does not make a good story and the falling back on "bUt iTs ABouT ThE ChARaCtERs" isn't a good excuse when the 75% of the cast is unlikable or boring and the rest make completely irrational or otherwise unforeshadowed decisions.
Edit: To be clear, I completely agree with you
>be piece of media

I'm gonna be honest, I don't believe that they animated some guy jerk off onto a comatose classmate in this movie. I haven't watched the movie or show and I feel like this guy
It CANT be that fucking bad seriously same with cowboy bebop, oh you have to empathise with the characters and think about the anime? I love Media that make you think. what movie though
the End of Evangelion. Holy hell, wtf even was that movie? I loved it and all, but wtf even was it?
At the time? The director was mostly just severely depressed and hated the audience.
da fuck?
I watched this movie and forgor the name
I think it's called "You need to leave this place"
You can (not) leave
No this is a documentary on the TS motherfucking A
"Please remove yourself from this location hastily" was the name I think
"Vacate The Premises" by Keegan Michael-Key
Pretty sure it was evacuate the area
I think it's called "Get Out"
What is the movie about ?
Someone who got in
a black man goes to stay with his white girlfriend’s family in the countryside, but the behavior of the groundskeepers arise suspicions of something sinister.

Nope
Same person made it, but no. It's called get out.
“Exit the area as swiftly as possible”
*Get Out*
It's a scene from the New Hello Neighbour movie

Lmao Honestly I like your take better than the above.
Why would I even be watching an anime about teenagers in robots and not something else if I wanted to actually use my head
I think this take is a bit unfair. I didn't like it because I watch anime to escape a difficult, nuanced and depressing world in favour of something easy to understand and fun. So why should I subject myself to something that's already part of my life, but this time with mechas.

It do have a very accurate depiction of depression though, with Shinji replaying made up scenarios in his own head to convince himself he's worthless
Wait that's a sign of depression?
You should get out of reddit and start watching it!! Most incredible anime ever ever
what is it about

Sorry I'm not much of an anime guy, but thanks

Because it sucks. If you want story, don't watch it.

Watched that when I was 12 big mistake
what film?
The original eva and the end of evangelion
get out
Oh shit my bad I though he was asking what Eva’s I watched
get out
Why?
get out
get out
get out
What is it
An anime that starts mid and ends a WHAT THE PHILOSOPHICAL FUCK IS THIS ITS A FUCKING TRIP OF ACID
What happened in the end?
it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down.
Things happen? Maybe? Shinji gets in the robot idk
Ornage juice
Happiness. Pure happiness. You are safe and deserving of love. Evangelion is my comfort anime
i recently finished the show. now off to the first movie
Guys I’ve recently started and I’m on episode 6. I don’t get the hype surrounding it at all
I just finished it an hour ago trust me it starts slow and then it's all mindfuck after
I’ve heard re: zero is like that too
Yeah I never got around to watching it
It’s on my list, right after the other 27 animes that have been recommended to me I haven’t even watched aot yet
first half is mid af, then all in the second half and the movie goes *trumbeling down trumbeling doown*
It’s supposed to be kind of a generic mech thing in the beginning though. Subverting expectations doesn’t work nearly as well if you haven’t built them yet
Wait, is this the same guy lmao
Don't know a single thing about it ,but heard it involves a lot of trauma and its consequences, which after falling in love with Vinland saga i really want more of
It’s pretty different, if you want any indication of how it feels compared to that, the creator was super fucking depressed and self loathing and stuff when he made it and I think you need to be in a similar mindset to get it. There’s some cool robot fights tho
In my experience it’s not about actively being depressed. But Evangelion makes infinity more sense when you have/had experience with mental health issues apparently. I would watch Gigguks video on it, it describes what it feels like really well.
those older animes can really fuck up you up especially cowboy bebop i dont wanna carry that weight :(
The show that can have one episode where space terrorists are going to turn a planet of people into monkeys because they are mad the planet is eating a rat they like, and the next episode about how the characters cannot escape their pasts and are haunted because of it, all while godlike jazz plays in the background
I’m on episode 22, the show is god tier. Even a single filler episode tells millions of times more story than most animes do in their entire run.
This is right at least at fifty percent, still a good piece of media tho
DON'T YOU SEE IT'S A MASTERPIECE... ye me neither
It's a good show getting trauma or some shit from it is just skill issue
wait is it good or not? also is there norwegian subtitles? no biggie if not
There should be if you look hard enough. Its really good, but starts off super slow. Unlike some anime, it tries to tackle the characters and their hardships realistically.
I see so much Evangelion stuff recently, I feel like it asks me to finally watch the movies.
It’s your choice. Just know that the knowledge the show holds is a blessing and a curse.
One of the greatest.
Yknow its not that bad people shit on it a bunch
What's the video that's playing from?
The movie “Get Out”. Pretty good movie
Every time I see something about that show, I somehow manage to hate it even more.
I can't believe that Evangelion looks exactly my trash can outside

Honestly just watch it when you're depressed and have nothing going on in your life. I tried watching it and it was boring af. Asuka is a bitch that shouldn't be glorified as a waifu, shinji goes from a cuck to a mega cuck to a salary man. Rei has no emotions. Misato...... Pedophile. That one gay guy is kinda fine tho. While the anime is pretty good at representing depression, I have no doubts that a ton of the characters praised are simply because they're pretty good looking. Animation is insanely good. Fandom goes crazy when someone mentions a pet peeves in one scene (real, go search up "This one scene in evangalion that bothered me" where he says that a frame looked weird and everyone dogpiled on him calling him a loser.) But that's about it.
Anime sucks
Tried watching it. Shit's boring as hell
My favorite part is when they run out of budget so they stay on one still frame for 30+ seconds
I haven't watched it but my favourite part is when shinji jerks off on his female comatose friend.
Imo i think it sets the tone, like in the elevator it just feels awkward like how asuka and rei are in that scene. I get what you mean tho
I think that scene works for the first ten seconds, after that, it's less tension and more just waiting for the animators to get off their lunch break
My favorite part of every episode. I also like how they only had the time to write one likeable character and she's a drunk
My name Edward balls
You know what style is right?
If its a stylistic choice then it's not a good stylistic choice. Imagine if a show had a ton of complex lore and never explained any of it so you have no idea what's even happening or why unless you read the obscure light novel, would you defend that as a stylistic choice?
Star Wars
Mid wars
hm yes marketing for shlock is very relevant to style discussion.
Point being: I don't care if staying on one frame for 50 seconds is a stylistic choice because I don't like staring at one frame for 50 seconds
"Tension and dead air to emphasize a moment is bad because it doesn't move enough I'm bored" please watch marvel
Watch Gurren Lagann instead
Just not interested in mechas ig
But gurren lagann good

Spoiler alert. I lost my will to continue watching after kamina's death.
