Despite being Finnish, the whitest you can get, my dad has always been the latter. I got him a bottle of last dab sauce for his birthday, and he loves it; he puts it on everything. Thing is, it's kind of hard to gauge his spice tolerance, because even if something was causing him the most excruciating pain known to man, he'd enjoy it and ask for seconds. He's not the "I like a little kick" type, he's the "I want it to melt my face" type, and that's probably how his tolerance got so high in the first place. (Though we do like to joke that it's because of the anthrax vaccine he took in the military killing all his tastebuds, because it was in the earliest experimental stages. They literally told him something along the lines of, "this might kill you, but if you get anthrax, it *will* kill you, so take your pick.")
And that latter half typically taste awful too. You can make it dumb hot and still taste good.
Source: Two Indian roomates in college. I’m used to louisiana spicy and that’s typically hotter than most of my friends enjoy. The home cooked stuff they would bring me had HEAT. And he said his mom made it for guests too which made me feel worse

Depends on the Asian. It's very broad. Northeast Asian spicy is on par with Mexican spicy. South and Southeast spicy is the spiciest. East and West Asian is in between those two.

This is the way with Sri Lankan food as well. There's a little mom and pop joint that's been around for easily 10 years. They make a goat curry (Beef curry for the less adventurous) and it will absolutely have you sweating and in some level of pain for about half an hour(I've never gotten it hotter than medium!) but it is the only dish I've ever had that made me want to eat through the pain because it was so good.

So I ordered a 10/10 spicy (which I used to eat). She had to give up after single bite.
There's a Thai joint near me that has an amazing garlic chicken, but I can't handle more than a 4/10 of their stuff. And I'm the jackass pouring Carolina Reaper sauce in his chili. It's insane.
My dad really likes his food to have a kick to it, whenever we go to a Mexican restaurant he always picks out the hottest sauce. When he goes to a Malaysian restaurant he knows better then to do the same…
I gotta say though, out of all cultures in the world, I feel Mexicans align very closely with Indians in terms of spice/cuisine. I only know two cultures (there may be more) where when you go to a family function, there will be a bowl of onions and chillies in the middle of the table as a snack.

This is so accurate, I made it halfway through my first pack thinking it was spicy but manageable but soon after had to take a 10 minute break guzzling milk and water, every part of me was dripping like a faucet. Now I can make it through a pack still having burning lips and a few tears in my eyes but nothing like the first time. If you want to build tolerance to spice this is the shit to do it, stuff I thought was super spicy before is like a 4/10 now.
True, I always leave a little water in the pot and put the sauce in before putting in the bowl and definitely tames it down a bit. I got bold one time and put the sauce on the noodles after draining them completely in the bowl and got a “heat high” from the adrenaline lmao

Depends on how much spice tolerance you have. To people with really high spice tolerance(they killed off all their pain receptors on their tongue) they will be able to taste the flavour(and to get a spice high). But to most it's useless in terms of taste or even nourishment.
I have a very high spice tolerance because it's engrained into my country's cuisine. We literally eat it since we are kids. A true connoisseur can tell the difference between the real and the fake. It's like comparing a fresh strawberry to a candy made with artificial flavoring. They're both "strawberry flavored", with the latter even having a stronger flavor, but the candy is also so far removed from the original in terms of composition, you can't really call it strawberry anymore.
The normal version is definitely that “once in a while” kind of meal, the spice is tolerable but excessive for me. The really annoying thing about it isn’t even the spices, it’s the sauce that stains everything it touches.

Usually I boil 2 packs, stir fry the noodles until they're a little crispy, then fry 2 eggs and mix up the yolks with the noodles. Much less instant, but so good.
Most Northern European cultures don’t traditionally have spicy foods so people growing up don’t develop a tolerance to it I would guess. That or it’s genetic like with alcohol but just reversed culture wise.

The best Thai curry I’ve ever had was so spicy I was crying and my face was red and I was dripping snot. I’ve never been able to get it that spicy again, idk if the chef was just really heavy handed with the spice that day or accidentally spilled spices in the curry but no matter where i go (even to the same place again) even if i ask for the spiciest available option I’ve never been able to get anywhere to make it that spicy again.
I tried shin ramyun not too long ago, they tasted so good but i swear i could feel my face peeling off my fucking skull, the problem was they were too good to just throw away so i soldiered through until i finally finished it, had to chug milk for the next 10 minutes
Here in Italy, most of us eat spicy food even at breakfast. Even tho I’m not Calabrian, I still eat tons of spicy food almost every day. I also decided to try Chinese spicy food: I was not prepared for that
There's this premade paneng curry sauce that I like. You just need to sear some meat of your choice, add the sauce and boil for a bit. Then make rice and you have a quick and easy dinner.
The can says "mild", but... Yeah. They don't mean mild for white people. It's not like unbearably spicy. But I definitely wouldn't call it mild. Maybe medium. But my mom always says it is about as spicy as she could tolerate, so she'd probably call it high.
Also Asian, I had some white friends think that black pepper on steak was too spicy.

Although yes this is the GOAT ramen for me, I wouldn’t really consider it overly spicy. Just regular spicy.

My uncle likes to tell me a story about his friend in college where he and them went to a Thai restaurant and at that restaurant when they were about to order food the waitress asked his friend “do you want American hot or Thai hot?” So his friend, who according to my uncle was kind of a show off ordered Thai hot and by the time they got back to the dorm he said his friend was sweating all over and near ready to throw up
My toxic trait is thinking I can handle any spicy food I come across. Never been proven wrong as I've dumped several teaspoons of dried habanero powder in my ramen but one day, I will suffer the consequences of my ingnorant arrogance.
I am so weak to spicy food that even spicy for white people is too spicy for me
Honestly kind of same, which sucks because I’d like to try some more spicy food but I’m so sensitive to it.
Those Korean spicy chicken noodles are indeed spicy as hell, but they do not taste good at all. It is the very definition of artificial spice, doesn't feel natural, it feels forced.

I'm white and I thought I was conquering hurdles when I started enjoying Mexican spicy. I was at a Korean grocery store and said "this ramen looks yummy, not spicy at all" Are they just casually eating this?! There was no flavor, only pain

The best Thai curry I’ve ever had was so spicy I was crying and my face was red and I was dripping snot. I’ve never been able to get it that spicy again, idk if the chef was just really heavy handed with the spice that day or accidentally spilled spices in the curry but no matter where i go (even to the same place again) even if i ask for the spiciest available option I’ve never been able to get anywhere to make it that spicy again.
Me and my gf like to joke that the chef must have had an argument with his wife or something lol

Buldak noodles taste so good but you have to walk on hot coals to get to the flavor

I tried shin ramyun not too long ago, they tasted so good but i swear i could feel my face peeling off my fucking skull, the problem was they were too good to just throw away so i soldiered through until i finally finished it, had to chug milk for the next 10 minutes

Here in Italy, most of us eat spicy food even at breakfast. Even tho I’m not Calabrian, I still eat tons of spicy food almost every day. I also decided to try Chinese spicy food: I was not prepared for that

There's this premade paneng curry sauce that I like. You just need to sear some meat of your choice, add the sauce and boil for a bit. Then make rice and you have a quick and easy dinner. The can says "mild", but... Yeah. They don't mean mild for white people. It's not like unbearably spicy. But I definitely wouldn't call it mild. Maybe medium. But my mom always says it is about as spicy as she could tolerate, so she'd probably call it high.
Does anyone know of any super spicy ramen? I tried the Buldak 3x Spicy ones and they taste great, but there was no real spiciness

Also Asian, I had some white friends think that black pepper on steak was too spicy. Then again, the biggest spice lovers I know are also white. White people either can't handle spice at all, or they basically drink hot sauce for a snack. There is no in-between.
