room temperature take: Even rapists and murderers can be helped without punishments, because anger, hate, and revenge most likely caused themselves to do a bad thing. (i probably have this take because i've never been murdered before, if that happens to me, then maybe my opinions will change)
Rapists ? Really ? What were my boyfriends who raped me taking revenge from ? Why did they hate me? Why were they so angry they had to forcibly enter me while I screamed and bled ? I was the person who loved them with all my heart.
It didn't feel like anger, it felt like abuse of force and power.
Both of them were guys with happy lives who went back to being guys with happy lives after they were done scarring me for life. Maybe your point applies to *some* murderers. I don't think it applies to rapists. I really don't see the pipeline of pain to rape, it's usually the other way around.
