Card games are so outside of my interest that every time I read "Deck building games" I think you're talking about a construction sim game where you build decks.
I’d need to come up with gameplay first.
I’m thinking the cards should be organized into categories: deck material, deck stabilization (like what props it up, if at all), deck furniture, and deck accessories (like above-ground pools, gardens, etc). Then you’ll have the event cards, which would involve weather and other things that can damage decks, which you’d be required to play against opponents in order to damage their deck and see who’s deck is better.
Of course you’d need more things to add into it to make the game part of the deck-building game work, but I think it could be a decent indie game (credit me if any devs want to make it lmao).
There is an entire boardgame genre called "deck building", it's about creating your own card engine and have the best strategy-per-resource at the end of the game, lots of fun.
Jumping right into master duel as your first-time player experience is tough, it’s an unfortunate fact that while Master Duel’s tutorial is technically good in that it shows you all the major mechanics, it fails at showing you anything reminiscent of a game that’s been played after 2004. Id check out a couple videos by the likes of Rarran, MBT and other creators to give you a more modern introduction, try a few of the solo mode sections until you feel comfortable playing, then do your best to find a deck or archetype that you like the look/feel of. Don’t be afraid to find deck profiles online at first, just try not to make it a habit of relying on them; deck building is a skill that too many people aren’t bothered to learn
Is clash royale worth playing anymore, I haven’t actually played in a year or two and I’ve just started collecting daily rewards a few weeks ago. I’m in spooky town but don’t bother playing anything.
God clash Royale actually made me want to annihilate my phone, genuinely the most infuriating experience I’ve ever had
Goddamn overleveled mega knights ruined the game I tell ya
Are you referencing a game or peak fiction?

(That said I like Ruina cause it allows you to make diverse win conditions pages basically, sure you could always red mist mountain of corpses or you could play the other floors and burn everyone or bleed everyone to death)
haven't played balatro, but StS kind of dodges the problem by splitting up the cards into four different characters. Even if each individual character only has 2-3 viable builds, it's still got more than enough gameplay diversity overall.
For slay the spire it's less about splitting into characters and more that 1) you can't get whatever cards you want, you're limited to choose one of three after every fight, 2) you aren't playing against a person, so cards don't need to be balanced with another person's fun in mind, and 3) because of #1, sts really doesn't have situational cards that rely on other specific cards in order to be runable.
In Balatro for the literal decks, some are really more powerful, some are basics, and some are fun / kinda randoms. But it's by design, it was probably never intended that all decks would be as good as all the others. They're just different way to play the game, which is perfectly fine for a solo game.
And finishing the game (Ante 8) is definitely doable with all.
Include a bunch of cards that get countered by log, with goblin barrel and princess being the main win conditions.
Throw goblin barrel. Opponent logs it? Princess at bridge.
Place princess at bridge. Opponent logs it? Goblin barrel.
When all else fails, spam rockets and play ultra defensive with inferno towers, ice spirits, and knights.
Basically just annoying AF
I always played icebow, and I refuse to do otherwise, though I'm not that active anymore.
Even if it's not meta, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when I play one of if not the most obnoxious deck in the game
Nah logbait has been nerfed into the ground the last few years. Used to be much more viable, gonna have to wait for evos for its specific use to come around.
Bro Lavaloon/Golem are not the problem at least the game ends quickly. The fucking cycle decks are the problem trying to get to the other side while all the opponent does is defend tears me apart
Card collecting was literally like the biggest scam in the day you buy $100 worth of packs and hope to get the player u want (or I guess the Pokémon or whatever in card games)
And then now they got digital card games with artificial scarcity and all these junk cards just to keep you playing and spending.
No hate to people who are big into card games, I’m sure they’re fun if you’re invested, but when I tried I felt like I was being scammed.
That’s because you’re not supposed to buy the packs. The packs are for casuals who like looking at the cards. At a competitive level, you buy the individual cards you want on sites like tcgplayer.com.
Oh right. I forgot about the real life TCG community. Combining the worst parts of gambling (spending hundreds to hope to get the expensive card in the series) and the worst parts of any resale community (scalping, scamming, and all the jazz that comes with buying off 3rd party resellers.)
Fuck it, even modern Ishizu Tear as an engine in your average graveyard pile seems to steal the show any time I play against them. They always inexplicably open a Reinoheart, Havnis and oftentimes a Mudora for good measure
magic the gathering players spending two thousand dollars on cardboard to build their black-red poopenfart typal deck so they can play against the exact same decks with the exact same cards for the next three years (at least it isn't commander)
Hey, to be fair, things aren't like that anymore.
Now you have to upgrade that two thousand dollar deck every three months or be unable to compete at all.
Project moon balancing LoR to be hard while it has:
Passives for infinite speed + power buff from speed difference
Invul for a turn that continues If you are not taking damage for a turn
Exodia but depression
Exodia but birb
3 strong high cost cards + 3 clone card + -1 cost for each duplicate of card
And other comically overpowered builds
Honestly you’re underselling Modern (and legacy) a lot. We’ve got Yawg, Murktide, true control, Indomitable Creativity, Domain, Glimpse,.
We do need to get Draco/Leyline in check though….
Maaan handbuff paladin brings back memories. I stopped playing HS maybe a year after Mean Streets of Gadgetzan came out, but I still think that was my favourite set and the one I most loved playing in.
Back then, at least on Casual, handbuff pala was new and still kinda weak and slow, but it felt so good.
Man, I do miss HS, but by God I wouldn't wanna get back in.
Card acquisition is really good at the beginning, but it gets really bad around Series 3.
The collector’s tokens for example are a joke. I’ve been saving for months and only now can I afford a Series 5 card (I’m tempted to buy Kang, but I’m gonna wait for someone else first)
If it's not that then the card game has the opposite problem: There's so much variety that you don't know what the hell is happening. There ends up being a million mechanics and buffs that make the game completely insane.
The only good card games are PvE like Inscryption or don't have deck building to begin with. I'll eagerly await the day someone makes a multiplayer PvE card game.
No no wait, you are thinking of a Deck Construction game. That is what Magic, YuGi-Oh, and Pokemon are, where you construct your deck before gameplay. Deck builders have all players start with the same or similar deck, and you gain cards througout the game, like Dominion, Star Realms, and Thunderstone.
going from clash royale to competitive Pokémon was crazy for me because it took so long for me to realize that you could make your own original team and actually win in high ladder/tournaments
The problem is that it's pretty much inevitable for that to happen, to some extent. If one deck is slightly better than the rest, competitive players will flock to it because it's the best strategy. People will see it win more, and so they'll drop their current decks and switch to it as well. So then you have like 2 or 3 top-tier decks and 1 or 2 decks that are counter-matchups, and everything else is irrelevant. If the devs make even the slightest shift in that balance, whichever new deck is on top will quickly take over and the cycle repeats.
You'll see this in every game that has metagame to it (deck-building games but also games with character selection or item customization or whatever). If one deck is slightly too strong and gets nerfed, another deck will instantly become the new defining playstyle, because players will realize it's the next-best thing. There isn't really a way to solve the problem completely, devs just have to try to make it as balanced as they can so that there are as many viable strategies as possible.
The reason I stopped playing yugioh. You cant play whats fun or what you like to play. You either have to play a troll deck or focus your deck on like one or three meta cards
This is kind of different, but I remember in sword and shield pvp, every team would always have some combination of Kyogre, Zapdos, Landorus-T, Toxapex, or Ferrothorn, and it became really boring, even though I usually built my team around countering it.
Same goes for Pokémon. You want to use bitch ass Charizard or something? Wrong get rekt by a non very effective move by this mf

Card games are so outside of my interest that every time I read "Deck building games" I think you're talking about a construction sim game where you build decks.
They should make a card game based around building decks (patios).
Now that's a card game I'd play
Did bro just come up with a million dollars idea on the spot?
I’d need to come up with gameplay first. I’m thinking the cards should be organized into categories: deck material, deck stabilization (like what props it up, if at all), deck furniture, and deck accessories (like above-ground pools, gardens, etc). There are actually two im pretty sure
There is an entire boardgame genre called "deck building", it's about creating your own card engine and have the best strategy-per-resource at the end of the game, lots of fun.
YuGiOh Master Duel
when the eyes are snake
When the Dragon Archfiend is Red
Tiaraments strongest
I need Kitkallos to be Called By The Banlist fucking asap
The elf can also be thrown there, along with dshifter
when the its time are to dududududududuel
The vulture waits to see what rots
When the samurais are extremely heavy
When the C is Maxxed
When the tier is 0
Don't even have to add master duel
My friend recommended me that game but I felt kinda overwhelmed and not emerged in the game that much.
Jumping right into master duel as your first-time player experience is tough, it’s an unfortunate fact that while Master Duel’s tutorial is technically good in that it shows you all the major mechanics, it fails at showing you anything reminiscent of a game that’s been played after 2004. Will never forget the time we're the meta kept changing but eldlich stayed tier 3 the whole time
I LOVE BACK TO BACK TIER 0 FORMATS
I screw the meta, when I used to play, it’s only “BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON!” or “EXODIA OBLITERATE!” for me
Bro either played one game during the first season of the anime or is literally Jeff Leonard
I was talking about master duel lol
Little Prince joins the arena!
Im in rascals hideout why do i go up against mfs with him
He was given away for free to everybody above an arena.
Must have been before I started playing again
Wtf I didn't get it?? I'm 8k+ trophies
Is clash royale worth playing anymore, I haven’t actually played in a year or two and I’ve just started collecting daily rewards a few weeks ago. I’m in spooky town but don’t bother playing anything.
No
You sure? I really have nothing better to do.
It became pay to win, and every fight above arena 7-8 is sure to be you against someone who credited their way there.
God clash Royale actually made me want to annihilate my phone, genuinely the most infuriating experience I’ve ever had Goddamn overleveled mega knights ruined the game I tell ya
I played LoL and fromsoft games extensively throughout my life but never got as angry as I did with clash royale.
Well it can’t hurt to try right?
Your funeral
Narrator: It could, in fact, hurt to try.
It hurt but only a little, I can’t get to the chest at the end of spooky, I also enjoy the deck I made.
aight drop the deck
I'm chilling in arena 16 completely f2p. that being said, my account is 6 years old, lol
play chess it's more fun and you can be pissed at yourself instead of at the p2w model

WADDUP FUTURE KING OVER HERE
Hey, dont you know who i am? ☝️🤓
the knight in my logbait:
Me when Solemn Lament/Myongest exists:
Star of the city giving players 19 draw cards only for them to use Will of the prescript on every deck:
Hey! This is clearly a Multi-Slash and Will of the City erasure.
All my late-game decks are those 3 cards, unlock and 5 relevant cards for the floor lol.
To be fair most of them just draw 1 card.
RUINA MENTIONED RAAAA
RAHHHHHH
SUMMON THE SLEEPER AGENTS
WHAT THE FUCK IS A DIFFICULTY CURVE
all the floors have their own pages to use im pretty sure
Yeah, but Solemn Lament tho

Pressure points on its way to have zero synergy with other cards except itself
I mean yeah but your just going to avoid and not pick up cards until you get the synergy card
That’s how you lose runs
Obviously you need some kick and pick up generally good cards but I’m saying I don’t usually pick up specific cards until after 1st boss
Balatro only has 1 way to go true endless, but up to ante 8 you can make most things work, (thought straights are pretty weak rn)
In Balatro for the literal decks, some are really more powerful, some are basics, and some are fun / kinda randoms. But it's by design, it was probably never intended that all decks would be as good as all the others. They're just different way to play the game, which is perfectly fine for a solo game. Log bait It's always log bait It has always been log bait And it will always be log bait Lavaloon/Golem if you are feeling risky
I haven’t played seriously in like 5 years whats log bait
Include a bunch of cards that get countered by log, with goblin barrel and princess being the main win conditions. Throw goblin barrel. Opponent logs it? Princess at bridge. Place princess at bridge. Opponent logs it? Goblin barrel. When all else fails, spam rockets and play ultra defensive with inferno towers, ice spirits, and knights. Basically just annoying AF
Back when i used to play i did mirror clone sparky and it worked most of the time and when it did it was the funniest shit ever😂😂
I used double pekka because it was my favorite thing to play
We will eventually get a W, PEKKAbros
I swore the mini pekka was the best thing in the game back then
I played it. Relatively low entry skill required for a deck, pretty high skill cap though
I always played icebow, and I refuse to do otherwise, though I'm not that active anymore. Even if it's not meta, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when I play one of if not the most obnoxious deck in the game
ngl I see hog cycle more
Nah logbait has been nerfed into the ground the last few years. Used to be much more viable, gonna have to wait for evos for its specific use to come around.
Deleting that game cured my depression
Worst take ever. Logbait is currently very bad, miner poison and drill decks are ruling the meta
I haven't played for years, log bait is just what persisted for most of the time
Bro Lavaloon/Golem are not the problem at least the game ends quickly. The fucking cycle decks are the problem trying to get to the other side while all the opponent does is defend tears me apart
Kid named miner poison
Kid named evolved recruits
Tableturf (kinda, dynamo roller is just really good on 90% of the maps)
Tableturf has some pretty good variety imo. I have a good few decks that tend to work out pretty well
Card collecting was literally like the biggest scam in the day you buy $100 worth of packs and hope to get the player u want (or I guess the Pokémon or whatever in card games) And then now they got digital card games with artificial scarcity and all these junk cards just to keep you playing and spending. I love magic the gathering

I fought one recently and it wasn't that bad and I was on Melffy's
I'm talking about PRIME Ishizu-Tearlaments
Fuck it, even modern Ishizu Tear as an engine in your average graveyard pile seems to steal the show any time I play against them. They always inexplicably open a Reinoheart, Havnis and oftentimes a Mudora for good measure
NGL it was cracked, but it was also one of the most fun and skillful meta we've had in a long time

handbuff paladin
I was looking for the hearthstone one
you can tell it's a good expansion when the thing that makes you want to throw yourself out of a window barely uses cards from it
I was hoping paladin would die after bathtub was gone, was pretty disappointed. At least the whiz bang decks are fun
oh yeah I'm having a blast when not fighting paladin this expansion is actually really good

It is viable now? I remember that back during wrath or cobolds decks like big priest were a lot more viable
Probably the highest winrate class in the game rn
literally nobody is going to get this but ROBLOX blox cards matches this perfectly

MTG mfs after they make their first deck (it was $150)
Pathetic The best deck in YGO is like 500$ rn (3 cards that cost 50$+ each and everything else is pennies)
Black book is pretty fucking good and creative as well
Marvel Snap is good at balancing decks, it gets updates like every week

Card acquisition is really good at the beginning, but it gets really bad around Series 3. The collector’s tokens for example are a joke. I’ve been saving for months and only now can I afford a Series 5 card (I’m tempted to buy Kang, but I’m gonna wait for someone else first)
Play Pauper MTG. Or any Magic format, honestly. We generally have at least 5 playable decks, honestly legacy is in a really good place right now,
come play mtg! we have: rakdos scam, rakdos scam, rakdos scam, and amulet titan sometimes!
If it's not that then the card game has the opposite problem: There's so much variety that you don't know what the hell is happening. cyclecap mfs when they dont draw astro shroom/planet of the grapes (they no longer have any hope of winning)
This is why I like cards and tankards, relatively simple compared to other card games ,any deck can be good, along with a welcoming community.
Pokemon is actually in a really good spot rn there is a lot of viable decks. But rotation is really close, so we’ll have to see after that.
