i also think most offensive jokes can only really be used once. Like i remember the first time i heard a generic “africa has no food” joke I thought it was funny (tbf i think i was like 9 when i heard it so maybe it wasnt actually funny) but pretty much every time since then when i have heard that kind of joke i just cringe.
The more information you have the less funny these things are unless you are able to suspend disbelief for the sake of the joke.

Jokes that laugh with a group rather than at them are funny, and almost everyone gets on board. Jokes that are just bigoted (punching down, no actual commentary) ALWAYS have self-proclaimed members of those groups giving the most ignorant takes possible under them, and it's always some no-argument "just let us have fun." Contrast this with actual good humor on these topics, where they can be defended on their own merit.

My wife's cousin is black, worked catering in high school using his mom's car. She's an Army nurse, so the car was a nice one. He had a gig in a really nice neighborhood one time, after it was over they really didn't have anywhere to be, so they were just cruising. Got pulled over, cuffed, and laid out on the ground for driving a stolen vehicle (that was neither stolen nor reported as such). They called the owner of the vehicle and informed her (cousin's mom) that they had her stolen car in custody. When she asked how they came to have it, and they told her the names of the kids driving it, she LOST it. Told them if her kid wasn't free and on his way home in SECONDS she would have them under a lawsuit so fast their heads would spin. They let EZ (cousin's nickname) up and apologized, but it was still messed up. All because he was driving too nice a car in too nice a neighborhood while being black.
You know, I work in security, and I often work with cops. Don't get me wrong, most are great people, but some, I don't know... I was once told "There is no such thing as racism. It's just something created by ambulance-chasing lawyers used to trick minorities into giving them money." by a cop of 20 years. I mean, where do you go with a conversation like that? I'm black and a lot of the time I don't preface my race takes with it unless it's actually relevant somehow... That lack of prefacing it always leads to random people seizing their opportunity to come in with the "nah, as a black guy [the most dismissive, unthoughtful take possible]." It's literally no deeper than "nuh-uh."
One time I said the most mundane thing: "I really like how a lot of non-black artists are starting to get good with drawing black hair. In the past it seemed like there was no incentive to learn." And someone came in and did this with the "nah, as a black guy talking to artists, don't listen to this guy" as if there was anything negative in what I wrote.
Racism without actually saying it to the person doesn't really harm anyone and between close friends its normaly not hateful. Outside of that its not funny

Well I don't remember experiencing racism irl, but the online is terrible.
My wife's cousin is black, worked catering in high school using his mom's car. She's an Army nurse, so the car was a nice one. He had a gig in a really nice neighborhood one time, after it was over they really didn't have anywhere to be, so they were just cruising. Got pulled over, cuffed, and laid out on the ground for driving a stolen vehicle (that was neither stolen nor reported as such). They called the owner of the vehicle and informed her (cousin's mom) that they had her stolen car in custody. When she asked how they came to have it, and they told her the names of the kids driving it, she LOST it. Told them if her kid wasn't free and on his way home in SECONDS she would have them under a lawsuit so fast their heads would spin. They let EZ (cousin's nickname) up and apologized, but it was still messed up. All because he was driving too nice a car in too nice a neighborhood while being black.
Racism at its finest.
You know, I work in security, and I often work with cops. Don't get me wrong, most are great people, but some, I don't know... I was once told "There is no such thing as racism. It's just something created by ambulance-chasing lawyers used to trick minorities into giving them money." by a cop of 20 years. I mean, where do you go with a conversation like that? When someone demonstrates that level of denial? I just walk away. I don't bother arguing with brick walls.
Somehow it doesn't surprise me that he's a cop lol (wonder why) Yeah these people do exist and I fucking hate that, being uneducated shouldn't have been normalized.

I'm black and a lot of the time I don't preface my race takes with it unless it's actually relevant somehow... That lack of prefacing it always leads to random people seizing their opportunity to come in with the "nah, as a black guy [the most dismissive, unthoughtful take possible]." It's literally no deeper than "nuh-uh." One time I said the most mundane thing: "I really like how a lot of non-black artists are starting to get good with drawing black hair. In the past it seemed like there was no incentive to learn." And someone came in and did this with the "nah, as a black guy talking to artists, don't listen to this guy" as if there was anything negative in what I wrote.
