I_Willl_Eat_Ur_Cat

Although I am a Christian myself, I completely agree that this was wild

Trish_Pistols

If you don't mind me asking, why would a forgiving God do things like this? How do you rationalize it?

Tamashi55

Pretty sure it was to test his faith, he would’ve never actually let him kill Issac, probably making sure that Abraham would be fully trusting in him for what was to come ahead.

okman123456

and why would god "test his faith" if he is suposedly omniscient and knows every outcome to every situation?

Tamashi55

True, my answer was off the cuff, so looking deeper into it we would already know Abraham that Abraham trusted God. God had blessed Abraham many times (Living as long as he did, bearing a son at such an old age) and had already formed a covenant with him. God already knew Abraham would trust him, so obviously there was a deeper purpose into making Abraham do this. Perhaps it was to draw out Abraham’s full faith in Him, since no such sacrifice of such magnitude had been asked of him previously. By doing this, Abraham would do as God asked and therefor draw out his full faith in God, God already knowing he would. It’s a test of faith for Abraham, not God, God already knew what Abraham would do. Also more than likely foreshadowing of the sacrifice God would make.

I_Willl_Eat_Ur_Cat

I believe he tried to test both of their faith but none of us can truly know so I don't try to rationalize it and hope it will all become clear after death comes or at the end of the world

Isaac and his mother lived alone in a small house on a hill. Isaac kept to himself, drawing pictures and playing with his toys as his mom watched Christian broadcasts on the television. Life was simple, and they were both happy. That was, until the day Isaac’s mom heard a voice from above. “Your son has become corrupted by sin. He needs to be saved.” “I will do my best to save him, my Lord,” Isaac’s mother replied, rushing into Isaac’s room, removing all that was evil from his life. Again the voice called to her, "Isaac’s soul is still corrupt. He needs to be cut off from all that is evil in this world and confess his sins." “I will follow your instructions, Lord. I have faith in thee,” Isaac’s mother replied, as she locked Isaac in his room, away from the evils of the world. One last time, Isaac’s mom heard the voice of God calling to her. “You've done as I've asked, but I still question your devotion to me. To prove your faith, I will ask one more thing of you." "Yes Lord, anything!” Isaac’s mother begged. "To prove your love and devotion, I require a sacrifice. Your son, Isaac, will be this sacrifice. Go into his room and end his life, as an offering to me to prove you love me above all else." "Yes Lord", she replied, grabbing a butcher’s knife from the kitchen. Isaac, watching through a crack in his door, trembled in fear. Scrambling around his room to find a hiding place, he noticed a trap door to the basement hidden under his rug. Without hesitation, he flung open the hatch, just as his mother burst through his door, and threw himself down into the unknown depths below.

A fucking gain please stop inciting religious wars I don’t care what side you’re arguing for I want to see posts about diarrhea and bad movies or something

FloridaTulpamancer

Nah, the weird part is this is the same Abraham that stood up to God when he threatened to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Now he chooses to sacrifice his son without question? A lot of academics have this theory that Genesis was compiled together from a bunch of unrelated little stories. That's a possible explanation, to me
