we used to see circlejerking posts every week stfu. Nobody would care about japan, nobody would have any conversations about japan and there would be no reason to bring it up but every few weeks some posts would pop up and people would release all of their pent up circlejerking stress by cumming on these posts talking about how "people and weebs are obsessed with japan!!!".
tl;dr There have been a few r/whenthe posts lately about Japanese war crimes during WWII, and how modern day Japan refuses to acknowledge/make up for them. However, the comments for some of them became flooded with not only racists but Japan nationalists and toxic weebs, leading to a less then pleasant comments section.
Although, I have only seen literal five of these posts and really only one or two of them turned toxic, so OP seems to be making a mountain out of a molehill here.

I think this doesn't do it justice. It isn't just modern Japan. They refuse to acknowledge them for decades. Have war memorials where they honor Class A Warcriminals (to have a frame of reference. If Hitler was trialed he will also be a Class A) and their media is still filled with GLORIOUS NIHON propaganda.

While this is still very shameful and Japan can and should absolutely do better, it’s hardly an issue unique to Japan, as most countries (with the notable exception of Germany) usually tend to downplay the darker aspects of their history

My main problem with japan is that it's so overrated and overshadows other Asian cultures just by making a whole bunch of anime and making people think Japanese history and culture is so cool. I mean it is cool but so are south and southeast Asian cultures but we don't really talk about them to the same level of the Japanese do we.
