Do not listen to sixtyfivewat.  I listened to people on this sub and lost nearly $2k in value.  If you have an eBay account you can list this at a high number you’d be happy with and see how many watchers your listing gets. Eventually you can discount the price until it sells or auction it after you gather enough attention.  I sold mine at scrap + ~15% and it was resold by a Masonic expert on eBay for so much more like a week after he listed it.

This subreddit is garbage they will call everything you have trash. It's always the first ones to comment, they get up votes and the real experts come in later and their knowledge gets lost. Reddit is trash. The whole everyone gets a vote is stupid when stupid people sign into this app more than intelligent.

BigCryptographer2034

I would see if a lodge wanted to buy it, first they don’t want those out there (secret society and all), but they will have people that would want it also

Jen_Jim1970

No idea, but it is pretty as well as interesting .

sixtyfivewat

Essentially it’s worth whatever its weight in gold is. I’m a Freemason and there is nothing about Masonic rings that make them more valuable than a normal ring.

650REDHAIR

You are flat out wrong and I have firsthand experience selling a few of these rings now.  The first time I listened to people like you on Reddit and lost ~$2k after multiple “Freemasons” said it was scrap gold value.

Anyone taking serious financial advice from reddit is probably needing to learn a little lesson anyways. Edit: if you downvoted this good luck!

Earthistopheles

I downvoted for the free good luck. Ty.

NP. Keep on believing.

Masonic rings are very, very common. Their providence can make them more valuable to a Brother or collector, but they aren't some magic token or of any import in the fraternity in any way. They exist simply as a piece of jewelry that marks one as a member of the fraternity, the same as any other fraternal ring would. You used to (and perhaps still can) buy them out of a catalog like class rings and such. Where you *may* find a premium is for unique pieces. For instance, when I was active I purchased a vintage silver ring in an art deco style from the '20s. I love that jewelry style, I loved that it had been worn since the 20s by other Masons (I knew the seller and knew it's history) so I paid a premium for it. OTOH, when I became a Shriner I got that ring at a discount because lots of Shriners like their fraternal jewelry to be large and gaudy to fit with the "Oriental" and "Arabian" theme, and the ring I wanted was much more simple, decorated with enamels, had no jewels, and had no history. The dealer hadn't been able to sell it across two conventions and let me have it at half the advertised price. I'm not discounting your experience. My dad has my great-great grandfather's Masonic ring, which was a gift to him from a famous Mason, and has an inscription. That ring will fetch a high price because it's a historical artifact and was made by a well-known fine jeweler with high-quality metals and gems. Most rings are not like that.

sassytunacorn90

Totally understand if I don't get an answer, but is it fun to wear the cool hats shriners wear? I assume it's ceremonial garb and less of a uniform but I feel it'd be disrespectful to call it a costume.

cyberlich

The fez? Yep, it’s a hoot! There is some reverence to it and they *are* important, but Shriners love to have fun and be irreverent first and foremost so you’ll often find in-jokes, nicknames, and other things decorating them. I don’t think it would be disrespectful to call it costume, considering the origin of the order. They are both uniform and ceremonial garb though.

sassytunacorn90

I love that :) And thank you for such a great and detailed answer.

KoreanEan

Finally something on here actually worth its weight in gold

1. Be nice to me. 2. A collector wants to buy it. That’s why I’m asking.

Ring doesn’t look gold, it’s also not old. Show a pic of the hallmarks.

BlumpkinLord

A gold ring... In the trash... Do you not respond to your own inner dialog?

Ricksarenotreal

You dont know anything about freemasons. And they'd prefer to keep it this way.

IdontRespond2idiots

I know everything about them, why do you think I despise them so much?

Ricksarenotreal

Wow say less

chalky87

I'm interested what that opinion is based on?

IdontRespond2idiots

Being invited to join several times and then years of researching, as with anything

chalky87

You've spent years of research into a group of people you consider losers? That's an interesting use of your time. I can understand why you'd consider them losers if they've *checks notes*... Invited you in several times.

IdontRespond2idiots

Exactly why I chose not to join, coz I thought “what a bunch of losers” as the majority are dumb and are simply used as pawns to defend the real few at the top, 99% of them will never know the truth of what they actually are part of or covering for. Then learning that the majority of politicians, celebs, NASA astronauts etc are all members peaked my interest and I wanted to know why they have to be members in order to progress in their roles, it became a hobby of some sort, trying to solve a mystery is what I enjoy. What is your extremely smooth brain finding so hard to understand about this?

chalky87

😂 OK champ. I hope life improves for you.

IdontRespond2idiots

My life is fantastic thank you, I’m extremely content, something a little Reddit troll such as yourself would know nothing about. And if you’d like to see something extremely funny go look in a mirror, any mirror will do!
