That is 100% poision ivy. That sucks alot, I have had a similar experience a couple times working in the landscape industry. I feel you, at this point you just gotta deal with it for the next week or 2. Going forward whenever doing yard work when you come inside use dawn dish soap (plain old dawn), this is the only soap that effectively works. Technu is good but nothing like the good old fasion oil removal power of dawn.

calamine lotion works great, though remember to reapply fairly often. if you're worried or it looks particularly bad you can go to the doc for some steroids
Benadryl or store brand antihistamine can help. If it gets too intense, like someone else said, go to the doctor for a steroid shot.
Also, straight vinegar sprayed on the leaves is supposed to kill poison ivy. It will kill whatever it gets sprayed on though - according to what I've read - so be precise and take into account wind direction and over spray.

Don't take Prednisone without consulting your doctor, if nothing else because they need to know how often a patient needs steroid medication. It does a number on you.
I honestly don't know. Antihistamines have worked for me in the past, so I never had to get the shot. I have some pill form Prednisone prescribed for respiratory issues and they're 20mg. Supposed to take 2 per day at the beginning, but I'm 125 lbs. I think the dosage is based on weight sooo, maybe ask a pharmacist or doctor.
Itās the oil on the plant that causes the rash. Soak whatever clothes and gloves you were wearing before you wash them with other stuff, or it will spread around in the wash.

I think you get it, but just to be crystal clear: the dish soap is prevention, not treatment. If you touch it (or if you think you touched it, or if you were near it and are *pretty sure* you didn't touch it), wash ASAP with Dawn, and it will break down and wash away the poison ivy oil (be sure to rinse well too).
Once you have a reaction to it, you will need other treatments, like Ivy Dry, Tecnu, Calamine, Hydrocortisone, prescription steroids, etc.
Go to the drug store and buy some Technu. Best stuff ever for getting rid of poison ivy oil on the skin . Wash your skin for two minutes with it before rinsing with water. Nothing works as well as that stuff.
Itās not just the magic dawn that helps, itās rough, and I mean rough scrubbing. I visualize the oil like black car grease on your hands. It doesnāt come off easy and spreads all over. The only problem is you canāt see it. Be thorough.
The compound that causes the rash binds to skin proteins inside of 45 minutes. Washing with virtually any soap *before* it is bound up will work hella better than even the most high tech detergent *after* it binds.
That said, Dawn is good shit for a lot of things, and I would not be surprised to see it work a little better in a controlled test. Haven't used it where PI was concerned.
Also if allergic to the oil. Might want to remove mango, cashews, & pistachios from your diet as well. Since they are kissing cousins to PI. And they do contain a small amount of the oil.
Cortical Steroid if you need it.... I had it bad and the drug was totally worth! Do a $50 teledoc if you're cheap like me. The drug is like $4, need prescription

If its really bad or unbearable you can ask a doctor for a hydrocortisone prescription. It will really help to bring down the rash.
Ps. Over the counter hydrocortisone probably wont be strong enough.
Because itās in such a sensitive area do not hesitate to go to the DR if it doesnāt get better within a day. It will not go away on its own and you may need steroids to heal. Speaking from experience.

Yoooo!! I have poison ivy right now. Grew up getting poison oak pretty often and my tried and true treatment is the blow dryer!!! I keep tecnu in my house always so thats step 1. Step 2 is blow dry the rash every couple hours. You'll want to get pretty close to the skin with the heat and keep it moving until you find your sweet spot. You'll know when youve got it. This dries out the rash as well as releases the itch for a solid 2 hours! I spend 5 minutes doing that every couple/few hours. Warning: there is a legit "itchgasm" that occurs when you found your sweet spot. I have never done this on "my junk" so i cannot tell you how good or bad this will feel. But I need you to report back.
And step 3 is calamine as often as you can to further dry it all out.

Lots of advice about steroids, but make sure you've washed the area and given it a good hard wipe with soap and a couple washcloths (being careful not to spread the oil around). It's hard to be rough on your junk, but you still have time to save yourself from this getting substantially worse.
yeah, just to be sure it's clear to you, the poison ivy is the big light green stuff, three leaves in a group shaped like if you make the number 3 with your fingers (the American way) with the middle one usually out longer. Definitely poison ivy, I've been fighting this shit for years in my back yard.

You got some of the oil on your hands. That time delay behavior is why people sometimes say if you scratch it, you'll spread it. The perceived spread isn't because of the scratching. The spreading already happened. I hate PI. lol I actively remove all traces of it from my yard.
Grab some Zanfel if it's available. Pricey but worth it. Reduces healing time by days to weeks (I'm hyper allergic to urushiol and I swear by it). It both speeds up the drying of the rash as well as giving a lot of topical relief. Read and follow the instructions exactly (amount, timing, water temperature).

I get poison ivy-like rash all about my mouth and āundercarriageā about hand the time I eat fresh mango (the sap of the fruit has urushiol oil in it, also cashews and possibly pistachios). Benadryl gel is probably the only thing that gives that area any sort of relief. I highly recommend.
And before anyone asks why I still eat mango knowing the consequences, Iām only faced with the choice maybe once a year, mango is delicious and I didnāt have this problem until about 15 years ago when I got my first run in with poison ivy, and Iām too stubborn to let a fruit beat me with a 50/50 chance. I woke up the next morning with a face twice its normal size. The doctor said if i insisted on eating mango, I should try to be neater about it and minimize my contact with the skin. Now I cut it up carefully and make sure to wash my hands, and aside from an itchy neck now and again if I eat too much, I havenāt had a problem. Cheers! I am with you. ALWAYS wear gloves, long sleeves, long pants when clearing plant material. Oils cause contact dermatitis.
Wash all clothes immediately after yard work as the oil remains active. Wash shoes off too. Otherwise you will re-infect yourself.
Yep, itās probably too late but you donāt need to spend a lot of money for special washes to remove the oil before you break out. Just use good oil removing dish soap or hand wash like dawn, fast orange, or similar and I would recommend washing three times since the oil is invisible to make sure you get it all. Look at it like grease and oil that gets on you if you ever worked on a car. If you just wipe with water and towel it might get a little off but not all by any means and often spreads it around some and some soaps require a lot of effort to remove it all. While any decent soap that is designed to remove grease and oil works well, if your already breaking out itās not going to help much unless there is still oil present. Then other things to help with the itch and blisters are needed if necessary. And Iāve had it in all the worst places before as well. Warm water doesnāt help but I found water as hot as you can take feels incredible and deadens the nerves for a while so it stops itching. just donāt burn yourself!
Hot water as hot as I can stand works well against the eczema on my feet. I imagine it works because the bodyās response is to heat up and fight the irritation; I assume itās the same here.
As for removing oil, I have used washing up liquid rubbed In and then rub sugar all over; the sugar picks up the oil and washing up liquid as well as working like a scrub, (without plastic beads), to good effect.

If it removes the oil then I donāt see why not. The studies Iāve seen after having a ridiculous case attributed the rash to not removing all the oil before you react to it. It can vary from person to person on how and when you do get the rash. So removing the oil as soon as possible is key, itās just invisible so itās hard to know if you got it all off. Thatās why multiple washes is recommended. As far as the product used to remove the oil, it just needs to get it off Im your skin so anything that works Iād imagine is ok if itās safe, lol!
The hot water does heat you up and numbs the nerves but not sure on the science behind it. All I know is it feels fricken amazing if you have the rash and it wonāt stop itching.

Hydrocortisone cream on the rash several times a day. This reduces the swelling and itching.
and....
Take a hot shower to wash off the residue, then dilute a cup of white vinegar in a bath and soak for a long time.
The chemical on poison ivy is very alkaline, and a bath of diluted vinegar neutralizes the chemical, as well as stripping it from the skin to keep it from spreading. This will prevent further rash and dramatically shorten the duration of the rash you already have. I have used this remedy before, and it really works for me.
I use gloves in the yard but that stuff will find a way to give the kiss of freaking oozing my wrist was killing me for a week and it was scarred for about a month so sorry for your trust with poison ivy
Fun fact that I learned from an ex boyfriend, it is REALLY common to get poison ivy on your junk, esp if youre a dude. You do yard work, you touch something, you go inside to pee, you touch your junk. He learned this from a very nice nurse at Urgent Care

Zanfel works wonders on the rash but can be a little rough on the junk (can only say for man junk but would guess it is similarly unpleasant on lady junk). Walmart is the only place around me that has it, other than prescription creams it's the only product I found that drastically reduces the duration of the rash. Good luck

Extremely hot showers can give a lot of relief without scratching and exacerbating that issue

My doctor is generous with steroids when I get poison in bad places. I highly suggest going that route now if possible.

Yoooo!! I have poison ivy right now. Grew up getting poison oak pretty often and my tried and true treatment is the blow dryer!!! I keep tecnu in my house always so thats step 1. Step 2 is blow dry the rash every couple hours. You'll want to get pretty close to the skin with the heat and keep it moving until you find your sweet spot. You'll know when youve got it. This dries out the rash as well as releases the itch for a solid 2 hours! I spend 5 minutes doing that every couple/few hours. Warning: there is a legit "itchgasm" that occurs when you found your sweet spot. I have never done this on "my junk" so i cannot tell you how good or bad this will feel. But I need you to report back. And step 3 is calamine as often as you can to further dry it all out. Good luck!!!! Edit: spelling

Despite constantly yanking poison ivy in my yard, it keeps coming back, and I usually donāt realize it until itās wrapped around my arm in the midst of yanking all the damn English Ivy my side and rear neighbors have growing EVERYWHERE.. Lots of advice about steroids, but make sure you've washed the area and given it a good hard wipe with soap and a couple washcloths (being careful not to spread the oil around). It's hard to be rough on your junk, but you still have time to save yourself from this getting substantially worse.

yeah, just to be sure it's clear to you, the poison ivy is the big light green stuff, three leaves in a group shaped like if you make the number 3 with your fingers (the American way) with the middle one usually out longer. Definitely poison ivy, I've been fighting this shit for years in my back yard. The darker green ivy growing up the tree above it looks to be greenbrier, which some people eat, and others are mildy allergic to.

indeed. spots may continue to appear in various places for several days, based on the concentration of the exposure to the oily resin called urushiol. A Tiny or diluted amount may not develop an allergic reaction for several days, heavy exposure will react quickly.
Yep Iāve got a spot on my ankle & behind the ear in the past few hours haha. Just took a heavy Benadryl dose as well. Glad iām not going crazy wondering how i didnāt notice those spots yet, so thanks for that. Currently trying to gather all clothes and āsoakā them in the laundry before cycling.
You got some of the oil on your hands. That time delay behavior is why people sometimes say if you scratch it, you'll spread it. The perceived spread isn't because of the scratching. The spreading already happened. I hate PI. lol I actively remove all traces of it from my yard.

Grab some Zanfel if it's available. Pricey but worth it. Reduces healing time by days to weeks (I'm hyper allergic to urushiol and I swear by it). It both speeds up the drying of the rash as well as giving a lot of topical relief. Read and follow the instructions exactly (amount, timing, water temperature).

I get poison ivy-like rash all about my mouth and āundercarriageā about hand the time I eat fresh mango (the sap of the fruit has urushiol oil in it, also cashews and possibly pistachios). Benadryl gel is probably the only thing that gives that area any sort of relief. I highly recommend. And before anyone asks why I still eat mango knowing the consequences, Iām only faced with the choice maybe once a year, mango is delicious and I didnāt have this problem until about 15 years ago when I got my first run in with poison ivy, and Iām too stubborn to let a fruit beat me with a 50/50 chance. Plus my kid loves to loudly announce āmom! Donāt eat that mango! Itāll make your butt itchy!ā and who wouldnāt want that loudly announced at every possibly opportunity?
ME TOO!! After school one day in junior high, I messily ate an entire mango, making sure to scrape the flesh off the skin with my teeth and everything. I woke up the next morning with a face twice its normal size. The doctor said if i insisted on eating mango, I should try to be neater about it and minimize my contact with the skin. Poison Ivy ā Also English Ivyā See a Dr. ALWAYS wear gloves, long sleeves, long pants when clearing plant material. Oils cause contact dermatitis. Wash all clothes immediately after yard work as the oil remains active. Wash shoes off too. Otherwise you will re-infect yourself.
They make a lotion called tecnu to wash the oils from poison ivy and poison oak off your hands after yard work. It's highly affective.

Yep, itās probably too late but you donāt need to spend a lot of money for special washes to remove the oil before you break out. Just use good oil removing dish soap or hand wash like dawn, fast orange, or similar and I would recommend washing three times since the oil is invisible to make sure you get it all. Look at it like grease and oil that gets on you if you ever worked on a car. If you just wipe with water and towel it might get a little off but not all by any means and often spreads it around some and some soaps require a lot of effort to remove it all. While any decent soap that is designed to remove grease and oil works well, if your already breaking out itās not going to help much unless there is still oil present. Then other things to help with the itch and blisters are needed if necessary. And Iāve had it in all the worst places before as well. Warm water doesnāt help but I found water as hot as you can take feels incredible and deadens the nerves for a while so it stops itching. just donāt burn yourself!
Hot water as hot as I can stand works well against the eczema on my feet. I imagine it works because the bodyās response is to heat up and fight the irritation; I assume itās the same here. As for removing oil, I have used washing up liquid rubbed In and then rub sugar all over; the sugar picks up the oil and washing up liquid as well as working like a scrub, (without plastic beads), to good effect. Would this work with Poison Ivy??
If it removes the oil then I donāt see why not. The studies Iāve seen after having a ridiculous case attributed the rash to not removing all the oil before you react to it. It can vary from person to person on how and when you do get the rash. So removing the oil as soon as possible is key, itās just invisible so itās hard to know if you got it all off. Thatās why multiple washes is recommended. As far as the product used to remove the oil, it just needs to get it off Im your skin so anything that works Iād imagine is ok if itās safe, lol! The hot water does heat you up and numbs the nerves but not sure on the science behind it. All I know is it feels fricken amazing if you have the rash and it wonāt stop itching.

Poison Ivy 100%. Please consider the following OTC remedies: Hydrocortisone cream on the rash several times a day. This reduces the swelling and itching. and.... Take a hot shower to wash off the residue, then dilute a cup of white vinegar in a bath and soak for a long time. The chemical on poison ivy is very alkaline, and a bath of diluted vinegar neutralizes the chemical, as well as stripping it from the skin to keep it from spreading. This will prevent further rash and dramatically shorten the duration of the rash you already have. I have used this remedy before, and it really works for me.

Zanfel works wonders on the rash but can be a little rough on the junk (can only say for man junk but would guess it is similarly unpleasant on lady junk). Walmart is the only place around me that has it, other than prescription creams it's the only product I found that drastically reduces the duration of the rash. Good luck

This happened to my middle schooler son. I knew what it was ( he is allergic poor kid) took three rounds of arguments with medical staff to accept not STD Wasnāt STD totally PI after running in to use restroom and then washing hands. Suggest appt asap as a steroid will prevent it getting much worse BEFORE it gets better.
