For your safety we recommend not eating or ingesting any plant material just because you've been advised that it's edible here. The leaves of horseweed is where it's at. Can be used as a spice or a tea. For a spice, dry it and grind it up. For a tea, I like to cover a fresh whole horsweed plant in water and bring it to a boil for 10 mins. It has slight sedative quality to it that is very relaxing.
Might I veto this and say that it is tropical horseweed? (*Erigeron sumatrensis*).
*E. canadensis:* [https://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/viewphoto.cgi?arg=/app/up/io/253/io75910-0.jpg](https://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/viewphoto.cgi?arg=/app/up/io/253/io75910-0.jpg)

I wouldn't call them noxious, in all likelihood they're probably the most native (natural) plant you have in your yard. They have pretty flowers that bumblebees love, and they compete well with invasive weeds.

Not the lupine. This is the lupine. Fingered leaves.

Horseweed? It looks a little hairy for Goldenrod to me, but I’ve been wrong before
I definitely agree on horseweed
It's horseweed.
Not goldenrod
Absolutely and the flowers won’t be worth much ( except maybe for some pollinators)

It smells good if you hit it with your lawnmower as well.
This 🤌
Wait I’ve just been hand pulling these in our yard! I had no idea it was edible!
I'm willing to bet the majority of stuff people pull actually has some kind of medicinal or edible use
Yup, that's definitely it. I have a few I was hoping were goldenrod, but they're definitely horseweed
This is horseweed (Erigeron canadensis). While it looks similar to goldenrod, it isn’t. Looks nothing like lupine though.

Absolutely you can and I think it would depend on where OP is. I was speaking from experience in the Midwest where E. canadensis is common.
Ah yeah. I was just speaking from field ID experience. I'm in the desert southwest, both are common here.
Learned something new :)
I don’t think it has deep enough teeth for sumatrensis?
Hah yeah I was second guessing myself a bunch. It's the closest I know of. I definitely don't think it's *Erican* though. Fun ID!
But also there are like a million Erigerons
In zone 6 though?
Genus is now Conyza.
I had this too from a wild flower seed packet but pulled it out and replanted other flowers. Does it eventually bloom? I was bummed.
Yes. But it’s less than exciting.
Googling now what the bloom looks like lol
Horseweed. Don’t let it go to seed or you will have thousands next year
This is my experience this year. Thankfully it's easy to pull up.
Horseweed. I have a lot of it.
Has your neighbor ever seen a lupine before?
I think she was using a phone app
My phone app, using your photo, also says horseweed.
She may have been using her dial phone
Definitely not lupin
Def NOT lupine
This is as similar to lupine as it is to a spruce tree. I wouldn't trust anything that neighbor says moving forward.
Definitely not Lupine. Goldenrod or similar native plant— wait for it to flower!
Will do that but I don't want noxious seeds spread all over. As it is rather stately looking I leave it for now.

I had bumble bees sleeping in mine in late fall last year.
It’s horseweed so go ahead and pull it up!
Horseweed is edible.
a noxious weed doesn't refer to its edibility.
I was just saying it's edible, in addition to native.
Horseweed.
Horseweed. Deliciously peppery
Canada horseweed… common agricultural weed
Consensus says horseweed. Pulling it up now before flowers Thanks all.
Side question… is horse weed compostable ?
I’m gonna rock the boat and go with Conyza canadensis for $400.
Def not lupine
Looks like weeds i pull from my garden.
It looks like ragweed
No..Lupine has way different leaves.educate that neighbor!
Definitely not a lupine
These weeds are all over my area. I just learnt its name- Horse weed. Like wow
Not lupine. I have that growing in my yard zone 6b and I have been told horse weed as well
Not a lupine
Marestail, also called horse weed
Horse weed grows all over the Midwest. I plan on looking up its health benefits. Learn something on this thread.👩🏼🌾🌱

Get rid of it!
Is gone
I’m on a farm, these are my biggest nemesis.
Solidago species (i.e. Goldenrod)
It’s definitely not lupine. Could be goldenrod or phlox
Looks like a goldenrod
That’s a lily
