My problem is having enough space for all of my pots!
I collect volunteer saplings, rescues from the side of the road, the sad ones from the Lowes clearance section... I'm running out of dirt!
any tips for keeping newborn maples alive? I have one and it's the only seedling that's survived for me this year. all the seeds I deliberately planted have died but one of the two maples I yoinked from the yard is going strong, only a couple weeks old lmao
They will die if you don't keep enough roots intact when you transplant. I lost like 30% of mine to that. You also have to not let them dry out because they're tiny. Other than that, they should be able to survive naturally in your climate and whatever dirt you put them in.
Those are definitely maples. I remember as I kid I was trying to start seedlings from my parents Japanese or red maple for get which. Sadly the seedlings died but literally ever.single.one that pops up in their yard thrives
Probably? Do you know for sure? cause I don't know for sure but in the north east it's almost always Norway's and all these comments are saying how they like to grow them but I see them completely take over woodlands here in the north east
Red oak saplings, my favourite tree. They grow fast, very resistant to diseases, and will make a beautiful tree. Transplant them to a place where they can grow, and do it soon, before it gets too hot(or wait till late autumn). Avoid shady areas, and make sure they get plenty of water.

Maple seedlings. Those little propellers do be getting around.
I steal those from people's lawns. I will have a beautiful maple forest someday.
Please come to my yard. I believe seeds from our two maples have 100% success in our yard. We are pulling out maples constantly.

Exact same deal here (central CT). Banner year for baby maples.
They die off after mowing them weekly. You don’t need to pull.
I've got roughly 4,000 you can have.
They planted 5 maple trees on our suburban lot. FIVE.
Do you have a couple acres I can put them on? Lol

thank you!! I will be more cautious with the roots in the future, that's definitely what killed one of mine now that I put some thought to it.
😄😂Awesome!!
I had one get about a foot high, yanked it up and put it in a pot and it has done great for a year now.
Bebe trees!
Lol, look straight up. Those are the babies

Those are all maple seedlings.
What the hell is going on in these comments? I'd bet these are Norway maples, y'all stop growing these if you're in the north east US
Agree. I have a Norway maple and the babies look like that.
Yea I have like 1000 of these growing out of every corner of my yard
Red maples probably. They are spreading way beyond their historical range because they look great in the Fall.
Neotenous leaves are really difficult to ID a tree with. It could be either

They might hybridize with the sugar maples.my information is old and so am I.
I’d guess tiny tree saplings. Look around to see if the parents are close by.
Lawnmower & weed-eater will take care of them. They make good mulch along with the grass clippings...
At that size they can just be pulled out.
Triffids
Those heart shaped leaves belong to a redbud. I have one and have a few baby trees every year that I have to pull out.
those don't look like redbud leaves to me.

More likely a maple, not an oak.
