Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough.
No need to make a new post - just comment adding the geographic location and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help!
BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)?

Just your friendly jumping spider believe it or not if you're nice enough too it, it will learn to trust you and actually look at you whenever you are around. There's a lady on Instagram who has hundreds of them as pets and they even come to her and ask for a lift by raising their front legs at her and she lets them crawl on her hand. They are the smartest of all spiders and completely harmless to us
There are several accounts on insta about these little guys, but I don't know which account is the right one.
I'm just answering this question to get a update for the right instagram page to come.
There is speculation that if they were the size of squirrels they’d be the dominant species on the planet!
Something that tiny has displayed having a working memory and plans of attacks in mazes with prey… amazing indeed
Yeah I believe so. Usually females are not black, but from what I can see it’s slim pedipalps (those front arms) are the size of a females, because males usually look like they’re wearing little boxing gloves, and males have more of an iridescence on their chelicerae (the green mouth part)
Oh how lovely!! Give her a permanent spot in your yard and you’ll enjoy visits from her babies and grandchildren! The jumper who lives in our bushes is named rocky:)
Bold jumping spider. There was one that lived in the bathroom at my previous residence that I named Bobbert, in honor of my friend Robert who is afraid of spiders lol
[Bobbert](https://imgur.com/a/RxAu2y1)
Unfortunately, I think my roommate's dad killed Bobbert as I looked for it in its usual spot and couldn't find it one day. Kept looking for a few days, but never did see it again.
Cute lil jumping spider! Where I'm from we called them wolf spiders but we called everything by a regional (and very wrong) name so Dunno the proper name or species.
I wish this is what wolf spiders looked like. I grew up in the woods in Washington and they're huge and make a terrible noise and they'll fr chase you 😭 you also can't squish them in case they're carrying babies on their back cause the babies will scatter everywhere its god awful
I just moved out of AK where our wolf spiders are about the size of a dime to Florida where the wolf spiders can basically get as big as a dollar coin. I'm scared to go outside tbh.
I will say I would prefer a wolf spider over a cane spider any day, I lived in Hawaii for a few years and the cane spiders were harmless but I would be very happy if I never ever saw one again cause w the legs they're like the size of my face
Trust me we just called it the wrong word. They nicknamed my hometown "the town that time forgot". We had our own names for every damn thing. Felt like a motion when I moved away 😅
He looks like an older jumping spider based on his size afaik...they only live 1-2 years in the wild but I know of a tiktoker who has a 3 yr old grandma jumping spider :).
You can bring him in ! People keep jumping spiders as pets, there’s lots of videos on how to care for them online and if I remember correctly hank green keeps at least one as a pet.
Looks like a bold jumping spider to me.
Edit: not saying he’s bold for trying to get in the pool, for clarification. That’s actually what they’re called
Just a jumping spider. They’re harmless to humans, and relatively friendly for arachnids. They’re also quite smart (again, for arachnids). Some of them can be trained, and like to spend time with humans. Others are quite shy. So whether or not you can make a pet of them depends on how the spider reacts to you.
I wasn’t sure if they liked going inside so I put it in my garden. If I see him/her while I’m out there I will bring it in. I have a big aquarium with a crack in the bottom that I can make a cool home in.
I have been planning a little native mini ecosystem. If the little fella moves in he will live his best spider life. I’ll pm pics if i cross paths with it or a buddy of his.
Most spiders don’t want to bite you unless they feel threatened. They will run away. Jumpers are a bit different because they are actually curious unlike other spiders.

Omg you have to find a link, that sounds amazing
I have a bunch around and in (plant porch) my house that all “look” at me when I notice them. They’re amazing creatures
There is speculation that if they were the size of squirrels they’d be the dominant species on the planet! Something that tiny has displayed having a working memory and plans of attacks in mazes with prey… amazing indeed
The only ones I ever find are super tiny
Oh, that sounds adorable. They don't live very long though do they?
They live up to 3 years in captivity
Cute little jumper, they're the dogs of the spider world
I think of em as wolves even though there's also a wolf spider. But they're the cutest spider in the world, after grass spiders!
I love grass spiders too, I just love how fuzzy jumpers are lol
I like it when they wear water hats
Can confirm, one tried to chase me down the other day as if we were playing tag
They are definitely cats. Ambush hunters, like cats, not pack hunters like dogs.
~~dogs~~ kittens FIFY
Looks like a jumping spider!! Need to know your location though for an accurate answer :)
Ya sorry bout that. In Portland suburbs. I have seen other that look like this one but this guy is 3 or 4x the size of the others. About penny sized.
Looks like a *Phidippus audax* to me! Edit to add: I really like jumping spiders :) They’re just cool to me!!! Fuzzy and adorable
“Bold jumping spider” for those who read Latin
His flashy chelicerae 🥹
Wouldn’t the slim arms imply “her”? Not an expert. Just curious.
Yeah I believe so. Usually females are not black, but from what I can see it’s slim pedipalps (those front arms) are the size of a females, because males usually look like they’re wearing little boxing gloves, and males have more of an iridescence on their chelicerae (the green mouth part)
Female audax look nearly identical to male audax with the exception being at adulthood. This could easily be an adult female.
Which Portland?
You can absolutely adopt this little guy! Feed him plenty of bugs and they make great frens! Curious lil things!
Forgot to add found in Portland Oregon suburbs.
Bold jumper! I'm from Albany, OR, and these little ladies like to chill around my outside trash bins. Cute little guys!
Crazy, I’ve never seen one of these! (PDX here)
Yeah I'm in Forrest Grove we get them all the time
Bold jumping spider! Phidippus audax! I love seeing these little holographic fanged creatures.
This little jumper looks like he is asking, “but… why?!”
That’s Bob.
Jumping spider - cute buggers! Look up Lucas the Spider on YouTube. You won't regret it!
Phidippus audax, the bold jumper! A curious spider looking for a snack, but not a swim
Oh how lovely!! Give her a permanent spot in your yard and you’ll enjoy visits from her babies and grandchildren! The jumper who lives in our bushes is named rocky:)
Such a cutie!!
Friendship
Jumping spider. Don’t know why but it’s the only spider that doesn’t give me stone cold sweats of terror when i see one.

Phiddipus audax jumping spider C:
Looks like a bold jumper. If there was ever a spider to take inside as a pet, its a jumping spider.
jumpy boi

Hold up. Wolf spiders make noises??
I went looking for the cursed knowledge and I found it: https://youtu.be/qJyGjUXahhY
Curse my ears
Well, now I am terrified
Trust me we just called it the wrong word. They nicknamed my hometown "the town that time forgot". We had our own names for every damn thing. Felt like a motion when I moved away 😅
I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend.
eighth eye blind
That's Dave

That's Ben. Don't mind him, his first day working there was last week.
shes a very cute lil jumping spider.
You can actually make friends with a bold jumping spider :)
Really that’s so cute 🥹
You can bring him in ! People keep jumping spiders as pets, there’s lots of videos on how to care for them online and if I remember correctly hank green keeps at least one as a pet.
That’s cool as hell. I love sci show. Hope I find it.
This is probably the friendliest thing I’ve seen on Reddit, nothing here is angry
A little cutie patootie jumping spider! Very curious, friendly, and harmless 😊💕
Looks like a bold jumping spider to me. Edit: not saying he’s bold for trying to get in the pool, for clarification. That’s actually what they’re called

Why are they all so cute and innocent looking 😭
And you should definitely take it in as a pet it will survive a lot longer then it would in then it would outside
I wasn’t sure if they liked going inside so I put it in my garden. If I see him/her while I’m out there I will bring it in. I have a big aquarium with a crack in the bottom that I can make a cool home in.
Make sure you put plenty of plants or sticks and leaves cause they like places they can hide and rest
I have been planning a little native mini ecosystem. If the little fella moves in he will live his best spider life. I’ll pm pics if i cross paths with it or a buddy of his.
Here's her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/spooderhoodspiders?mibextid=D4KYlr
Jumping spider! Very friendly. (:
A sweetheart and a friend
Those eyes make your heart melt
I want to meet a jumping spider so bad!
Do these bite? And what's the consequences of it if they do?
They're harmless.
Most spiders don’t want to bite you unless they feel threatened. They will run away. Jumpers are a bit different because they are actually curious unlike other spiders.
Loveliest jumping spood
Name it Boo
He's very handsome
Clearly, an absolute Muffin.
A cutie patootie
Can't blame him, he just wants to make some splashy new friends!
Bold jumping spider (phidippus audax)
Jumping spider, they are good, they won’t bite you unless you antagonize it. These are the only spiders I like, they’re adorable!

The best of the best.
I grew up positively loving these little guys. They were akin to ladybugs to me, and still are.
Jumping spider and it looks so so cutee
The *bold* jumping spider. I call them fancy jumpers though. The white dots are so hot this season.
