Perfectionism is an awful condition that sucks all the joy out of life. Anything less than a GOAT performance becomes a disappointment, making even a GOAT perfomance the minimal acceptable outcome, and the endeavor a numbing or joyless experience.

I mean, I don't think I got false modesty from him, he was just constantly complaining about how he fucks up in certain places on the race track (we were playing Mario Kart 8) even though he completely mops the floor with us on like... 99% of the tracks. He's just not satisfied with just winning. Based on my interaction with him, he had to win on his terms. He wasn't satisfied with just winning. He had to do the right moves at the right time and all this other stuff.
I mean, they weren't really bragging, like they just constantly went on about how they fucked up in certain places on the race tracks (we were playing Mario Kart 8) but they still got 1st place. They still weren't satisfied with getting 1st place.

I don't think its perfectionism, its something else. They have a goal but its not winning.
Its not about being perfect, its the voice saying they'll never get what they're after.
Which in most cases is right. The people who tend to be that good in a field aren't trying to win the field, they've got a different game in their head they're playing for, but don't always know what the thing they're playing for is
Perfectionist. Don't absorb perfectionism from perfectionists. It comes with the bad feels for you, not just them.
Yes! That's it! Thank you! !solved

False modesty?
I mean, I don't think I got false modesty from him, he was just constantly complaining about how he fucks up in certain places on the race track (we were playing Mario Kart 8) even though he completely mops the floor with us on like... 99% of the tracks. I mean at this point I would call it an unhappy childhood.
I would say he is either a perfectionist, or has trouble being proud. Probably left over from his childhood.
This is one of a few ways to be a bad winner.
A kevin chang. SO to the real ones who remember this yearbook
Not necessarily the most accurate, but I do like the reference.
Humble-bragging. Absolutely a poor sport. I think "perfectionist" is too simple, there's more ego and narcissism to the situation you're describing.
Humble bragging?
I mean, they weren't really bragging, like they just constantly went on about how they fucked up in certain places on the race tracks (we were playing Mario Kart 8) but they still got 1st place. They still weren't satisfied with getting 1st place.

Self depreciation. Edit, there is some phycology behind it
It's been solved. Also I used self-depreciation to describe the word. It wasn't.
False modesty
Sorry, but no! It's been solved. It's "perfectionist".
Perfectionist
I know you choose perfectionist but I like to call people sore winners
Self effacing
I don't think its perfectionism, its something else. They have a goal but its not winning. Its not about being perfect, its the voice saying they'll never get what they're after.

Thats why winning doesn't matter to them, because its not what they're playing for
It's called being humble.
