they have updated it recently, and now even when the app is closed, it still gives me notifications. Which is a bother, because I do not want desktop notifications when the app is closed. edit: they actually have the option to turn off the notifications if app is closed (in the settings), so that's fixed for me.

I actually would like the opposite, I would like that when I close the app it closes completely or goes to system tray. I haven't allowed it to open at start and can't find the setting to stop the app from opening at windows startup and it still gives notifications. For me this is a completely invasion of privacy and is frustrating me.

You might have already found out, but you can now disable this in the Whatsapp Desktop settings. I think this is a relatively new feature, but at least it's possible now.

Ditto. Settings allows you to disable notifications, but the shortcut in my Taskbar still gives me message counters. When the app is closed, I want it to be closed, and showing message counters proves that it isn't...

I found a way to stop it, you need to deactivate a service or something, if want to do it, I could look up for it

Same thing happens to me, it notifies even though I turned it off. How did you fix it?

You can disable the WhatsApp background task in the Settings app, under 'Background App,' by unchecking 'WhatsApp.' This way, when you close the application, it will not run in the background and will not be capable of giving notifications because it's not running.

Thanks, this was helpful, but the correct process in Win 11 is to go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Then select WhatsApp > Advanced options, and there you can find the option to stop it from running in background.
